There are many reasons I watch anime, but three big ones are originality, color design, and character design. I have a hard time finding truly original stories out of western entertainment these days, and I dislike the color and character design in most western animation.

Plus I am a sucker for how cute it is.

Addiction would probably be another reason why we "continuously" watch.

To look for something that we missed in life...

Something to watch when your bored, but even anime is getting boring since i started to be more active.

Maybe to escape reality too.

For me, the reason is boredom. I started watching anime seriously around the fall 2008 season, starting with Toradora!, which incidentally, was also the time that Top Gear season 11 ended. Right now, I'm trying to cut down my viewing to pre-'Fall 08' levels.

Mostly because the plots are much better than the stuff that is over here in America. Most of the stuff that is on tv now in the States is so mind numbingly stupid I can't watch it anymore, so I decided to check out anime with Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex and got hooked.

I wouldn't say this. If you watch anime or if you watch other things on tv, it doesn't really make a difference. Anime offer just more possibilities and so it is more diversified than normal shows, films etc.

Personally, I wouldn't call most people's anime watching tendencies an addiction. It's more a preference of a type of media, like preferring to listen to rock instead of pop. It's not quite an addiction in my opinion even though I watch a lot, it's merely something for me to do when I'm bored and there's nothing else going on.

But if there are people that become fidgety without a days watching something, or people that watch any anime simply for the sake of watching something, then you may call them addicted.

I watch anime because I'm out of books to read
It's not an addiction, more of a hobby...if I was addicted to anime, I would have found numerous sites to gather info on any new anime releases, buy every DVD+extras that were out and never neglect to buy plushies of my favourite ainme heroes!

well most people yeah... the general reason for watching anime is obviously not addiction. I'm just saying it could be one of those reasons. and you know those typical obese, american ,middle-aged slobs that watches tv all day coz they're bored and lazy? yeah...something is definitely wrong with them.. i can't put my finger on it though...i mean i don't know what's wrong with that...but my instincts tell me its wrong.

In my case, it's for entertainment.....

I don't know why, but i couldn't enjoy anime even when i have lots of time to lose.... In those cases, i would prefer laying around screaming about how bored i am than start cramming random anime series (i have lots of Want-to-watch series btw)....

Best way to enjoy anime for me is: be doing lots of works for the whole day, then watch some late anime episodes ^^

Because almost all Western drama series are cop or lawyer shows.

While gundam is the one that pulled me in, sci-fi is what keeping me interested in anime. Good sci-fi shows like StarGate, Firefly, and Battlestar Galactica are a rare breed in western TV.

Well, I watch anime because:

1. they are better than cartoons
2. there is nothing worthwhile on tv anymore
3. they are really bold and politically incorrect
4. they mainstream nude, sex, and lolicons!
