I recently bought the Project Diva Hatsune Miku game from Play-Asia and now I've succumbed to the vocaloid following!..
I've particularly liked the songs done by Ryo(supercell?) and kz, especially kz, as I found the synthesised sounds suits the synthesised voice very well. I also liked a few Megurine Luka songs that I chanced upon on you tube, that being "RIP=RELEASE" and "Just be Friends". Does anyone know if they've released albums for sale? (I know supercell has so I'm buying it). Last edited by Da~Mike; 2009-08-19 at 10:20. Reason: kz, not rz. |

I don't remeber seeing any vocaloid albums on those songs. There might be doujin albums but I don't have much information, sorry.

Doujin albums huh? Oh dear... I'm averse to traversing the net for things that are obscure... I have heard about that comiket thing that occured in Japan a while ago but then, getting imported doujin cds from Japan... I'm not going to bother trying... Now... I wonder how I buy songs from nico douga... |

I'll give it a shot one day though. Quote:
And I most certainly share your opinion on the vast majority of Miku songs. I think it's largely due to the synthetic sound of the synthesised voice, though the vocaloid2 sound MUCH better than the original vocaloid samples I've heard, most likely due to the vocaloid2 relying more on the actual voice samples (or something like that). One thing I definitely agree with now is how the vocaloid2 "instruments" actually helped propel some talented but otherwise underground composers into the mainstream, or more mainstream. Supercell (ryo) is probably the best example I can think of so far, and his songs definitely benefit having a live human singer (and not a programme) doing the vocals. Even kz's songs would sound better with a live singer. Though the exceptions would include physically impossible songs like "The disappearance of Hatsune Miku" song.. (which was done by someone else whom I can't quite remember...) I've heard a few covers of the existing Miku songs, and by and large they do sound better. What I'd love to hear is an English translation of "Love is War/koi wa sensou" sung by Amy Lee from Evanescence. That would be good. And I should actually read this entire thread someday... ^ As far as I know, The Hatsune Miku Vocaloid only possesses Japanese kana for speech. As a result, whatever English she's supposed to be singing very much sounds like Japlish, or more like katakana converted English really.
I think the later Vocaloids (e.g. Megurine Luka) seem to possess multilingual (or just English perhaps) speech capability. Though that makes me wonder whether the VAs behind the voices could actually speak English coherently... [Edit] I just heard two songs sung in English using Luka (Sukiyaki and Scarborough Fair) and well, it sounded rather much like Engrish to me... I wonder how much better (if at all) the newer vocaloids are at this, considering the sample is still from a Japanese VA (e.g. Megumi Nakajima). Last edited by Da~Mike; 2009-09-02 at 17:26.
