![]() Anyway, it's still the first episode so I guess the allegories/techno-babbling will make more sense in a couple of months. I just hope they don't overdo it, then all the enjoyment from the over-the-top ridiculousness will be lost. |

A lot of the song was obscured by sound effects, so there's a good chance that the 2ch transcription and consequently my TL is off by a fair bit (not that there couldn't be issues with the TL anyway). The first stanza is the only part I'm sure was transcribed correctly (they actually put most of those lines in the captions and there's a clean clip of that part on the official site). |

The more I look at this, the more this seems like the culmination of past Bones productions. The school life/non-mech sorta reminds me of Ouran and E7(E7 especially for the intro scene), Raphxenon for the mech designs, Xam'd for the character interactions(mainly Wako, Takuto, and Sugata) and Wolf Rain for the character costumes and backgrounds especially underground.

Star Driver: Kagayaki no Takuo - The Galactic Pretty Boy
As for as the year 2010 has transpired, I haven't picked-up a single mecha anime for viewing, and I won't let the year pass by without seeing at least one title.
To be honest, I know absolutely nothing about this show. I picked it up due to some short story: The Randomc.net Blog usually posts a synthesized but very descriptive entry for each new anime season of shows that comes. StarDriver was one among the several titles that was covered. When I read the entry and found out about BONES producing this show, I looked it up in Wiki for further information. I told myself, " why not?! Maybe it could turn out pretty amusing." Indeed, the first episode, or at least the first half of the episode, turned hilariously amusing whenever I watched Shindo-Wako-Takuto interacting onscreen; Takuto's hilariousness booms more frequently over anyone else. Anyways, before the opening started to roll, towards the end of the first half the story went on a bang, suddenly introducing the masked duelists of the Order of the Glittering Star Cross. Spoiler:
What I like most about this show is that the first episode introduces several familiar and big-hit voices: First, Mamoru Miyano as Takuto and Fukuyama Jun as Shindo. Those two big talents are giants in regards to the world of anime seiyuus, and for me this happens to be the third show listening the two actors voicing characters who share the same spotlight and appear onscreen. The two other previous shows were Rental Magica and the Vampire Knight series. Second, Saori Hayami, for those who recalled her as Musubi from the Sekirei series, and currently she provides the voice for Azuki Miho in Bakuman. Ami Koshimizu, Shinichiro Mikki (no need for introduction about this man, since he's a solid veteran), and Akira Ishida. And for the moment, those are the familiar voices introduced for the first episode. Coincidentally, I finished with HEROMAN yesterday, a BONES production, and today I started Star Driver, another BONES production. |
