I was ORIGINALLY going to pick this up at the beginning of the season, but I decided not to. Then Jun came in. Then 4chan. Then I downloaded it on a whim.

Overall, Happiness! is decently entertaining, but not on the same level as a previously-watched Magikano. First two episodes were good but boring (especially with the lack of music), but the later three were decently funny (especially with JUN in the picture!). I'm still not happy about the animation - the gradient on their faces makes them look like they have a serious tan job that only affected the forehead.

I can't wait until the juicier parts where

you know if you watch till the end im sure sumomo stays alive ~ this isnt the type of series that will go killing people off in front of our eyes (not including the past) ~ and besides i think the title gives up a lot of hint how the stroy will end

In anticipation of the finale, scheduled to air less than 12 hours from now, here are some scans from the first DVD.

Also included was a few insert pages (some lineart, a calendar sheet with the postcard art, etc.). The pages have a six-hole punch setup on the left, so I'm wondering if they might give us some sort of a binder later on. The DVD itself actually has a bunch of extras on it, in addition to the first two episodes. You've got an interview with Haruhi's VA, the textless OP (the updated version, which they use in the episodes too) and ED (the "stills" version used until episode 9), a PV for the OP song, little videos featuring the game CGs and character art set to the TV-size OP and ED, a bunch of Happiness anime commercials, and the first two episodes of the web radio show (audio only, of course). So, there's nothing in particular that really stands out, but on the whole it adds up to a lot more extras than you usually see on an anime DVD, which is nice.

I guess I haven't really been making that many comments about the show itself as it's been airing. Given that this is one of the few cases where I'd actually played the game before the show was over, my perspective has been a bit different. I'll reserve full judgement until I see the last episode, but I think the way they re-constructed the game plot is at least interesting. Mostly...

And the way it ended up was... pretty good. The overall plot probably won't win points for originality in some senses, but it wrapped up the show well, and made good use of all the characters.

Spoiler for Episode 12:

First, I have to say -- the way they did the kiss wasn't what I expected at all! But, if it was motivation he was looking for, then I guess that's motivation!

It was definitely cute, though; very Haruhi-like (considering the game).

The giant magical battle went the way you could expect it would go, and threatened to be a reprise of what happened years ago. Someone should leave a note: "Please don't use this power to try to bring back long-lost loved ones! It won't work!"

But that's very true to Ibuki's character though - so blinded by her goal that she (almost) doesn't care about the consequences along the way. Not quite, though -- Sumomo's injury certainly had an impact on Ibuki before, but having Sinya get hurt trying to protect her was an obvious clue that this wasn't going to work out for her. Of course, Yuma using Ibuki's sister's flute definitely amplified the "hero" factor. "Please lend me your powers" (and how they all fly into him naked, of course) is a bit cheesy I have to admit, but it did make the point about why they were able to stop this time what they couldn't stop before (it's about everyone working together/having a large team supporting you, and also having the benefit of a super-powerful magician in the lead, of course). I also noted that Yuma has a pretty good memory of all his spells, considering he hasn't been practicing, but you know...

Oh yeah, and also, back to the beginning of the episode: feigning being knocked out was a pretty funny strategy, given the vision Koyuki saw. Way to mislead everyone; good one!

All in all, in spite of cliches, it was a pretty good ending. Sumomo revives, Ibuki's quest is over, and they can all go back to the "happy school life" they should have had all along. Of course, one thing has changed, and that's Yuma -- he's now transferring into the magic section, with Haruhi by his side. I guess in that sense, despite the fact that we've taken an almost completely different route to get there, we're still ending like Haruhi's route in the game. It also almost sounds cliche to say "I liked the game better", but still, I appreciate what they did in this show. I'll definitely watch it again (well, and I'd better, since I'm buying the DVDs

).

all right, i made a decently short summary of Happiness Episode 12, the final episode in my anime blog.

Honestly though, Happiness! was a bit of a disappointment for me. With the lack of a budget and a moderately average story line, Happiness! flunked the test of an anime considering the rather high standards of graphical level in Japanese anime these days. However, a few redeeming facts include the oh-so-cute Jun as well as Haruhi being decent as a main lead. She is just a tad boring though.

Everything said, if you want to see a short summary of what happened....

I think most of us are in agreement that Jun 'man trap', was quite obviously one of the highlights of the show

. I'm really not quite sure what's going through the minds of the game/anime designers these days.... but drink it up regardless!!! (that's a bit of rhetoric actually but feel free to enlighten me ^_~)

Well it looks like discussion died out completely after the last ep (even though the subs are still far from done).

I'm reporting here about the just released OVA, which focuses on JUN!

It starts off with Jun in the shower (or at least we get a sillouette), then freshening up. Next shows various "typical morning" scenes of the various cast members - Anri getting another spell botched up (resulting in a swarm of magical butterflies that gets Haruhi all worried for some reason) to be fixed by Haruhi (using magical circle-like portals to suck them away), Shinya attacking Hachi after catching Hachi in another "intimate" moment with his sister, Sumomo all lively and pestering Ibuki causing Ibuki fire some rain-like beams in retaliation, and Koyuki working on another spell. Just a few problems: one of Anri's magical butterflies gets away, Shinya's lightning attack on Hachi goes flying over Hachi's head, one of Ibuki's beams goes wild, and Koyuki's spell results in some large pink blob that flies off. All of these combine together into a glowing magic thing that flies straight towards Jun, who's unaware unti Yuma warns him, albeit a bit too late. Jun is hit and bathed in a bright light.
When the smoke clears, it seems Jun is unharmed and Yuma helps Jun stand up. Just then Jun feels something weird about his chest, and runs off quickly to the restroom and checks underneath. Minutes later in the classroom Jun makes a startling announcement - he's turned into a real girl! Soon all the boys in school (and even one of the male teachers) start admiring her, especially Hachi, and a fanclub is formed by the freshmen.
Just as Jun is starting to enjoy her femininity, Hachi suddenly approaches her and wants to kiss her, much to Jun's shock. Jun resorts to her patented Patriot Missile Kick, which somehow doesn't actually do much to Hachi (instead of being launched into the stratosphere, he's just standing there with a footprint on his face). A shocked Jun wonders what went wrong, and apparently Haruhi explains that now that Jun's a girl she's not as strong as she used to be. Hachi tries to kiss her again, only to be bopped on the head by Shinya with his bokken, who then tries to kiss Jun as well, but is in turn bopped on the head by his sister (using a dumbell!). Jun wonders what the hell is going on when Anri points out that all the boys have suddenly gone feral and lusty after Jun. Yuma (who surprisingly is not acting up like the other boys) and Haruhi help Jun run away, and a big chase ensues (Koyuki stops them at one point, much to their chargin, then after a count of 3 by Koyuki, more crazed boys appear behind her forcing Jun and co to run the other way.
Eventually the trio reach the faculty room. Before Jun knocks Suzuri opens the door and lets them in. From what I gather, her explanation is that the magic spell that turned Jun into a girl is also causing all the boys in school to turn into crazed maniacs when they see her, and that to make them stop means to undo the spell, which also means that Jun will turn back into a guy. Jun is distraught at first, not wanting to turn back into a boy, but she's somehow convinced by Suzuri. Suzuri then presents a magical girl's outfit and staff, apparently used by Suzuri during her younger years (as Yuma imagines it) and explains to Jun what to do.
Donning the outfit and carrying the staff, Jun hitches a ride with Haruhi (using Soprano) flying around school to get all the boys' attention. Jun is deposited on the school roof while all the boys gather on the school grounds. Jun then says something about loving everyone then chants a spell that causes heart-shaped Sakura petals to float around much to everyone's delight. After the spell is done Jun is back to being a boy.
Later Jun and Hachi are arguing about some promise (not sure what), then Jun makes Hachi stand next to the window before lauching his Patriot Missile Kick again, this time sending Hachi out the window. Anri then wonders why Yuma wasn't crazed like the other boys, before somehow planting her hands on his chest and feels something suspcious. To Yuma's horror, he has boobs! To make things worse, he turns around and checks under his pants, then has a panicked look on his face and mutters something causing Haruhi to have a disgusted expression. Suddenly all the boys are feral again, this time going after - YUMA!

Deathkillz ~ You're dead ^__^* ~ Graphic Designer Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: uk, England Age: 34	well lets see what heppens in ep11 ~ Spoiler: to start things off we see koyuki (in full costume) enters a secret room...she then begins chanting some magic words... the scene the move back to the main house where suzuri continues to tell the story of the past...again we see how ibuki's sister sacraficed herself to save the others... well from what i can tell she states that the "crystal" has been sealed off in a cave which is near the school ~ and suzuri has been guarding it ever since...then she goes to say because of that (and another factor) she had to give yuuma to otoha ~ and also she messed with yuuma's head to make him think that otoha is his mother... suzuri's magic suitcase comes in and she ask the girls for help to persuade ibuki to stop ~ just then sumomo's spirit starts to fly off again...thankfully she goes back down after a while... hachi leaves jun's place telling him to take care of yuuma...jun is delighted to but he finds him sleeping so he turns off the lights and walks back out ~ how kind actually yuuma wasnt sleeping but instead thinks about how sumomo is doing... suzuri uses more magic to make sure sumomo is alright... the next morning we see shinya taking saya to the scene of the fight the previous night...it looks like a barrier had been broken in due to the fight...not good >.< oki WTF? it seems that koyuki has the power to see into the future...on the ground she sees herself defeated lying on the floor along with anri...haruhi is nowhere to be seen... she then turns up to haruhi and anri...and faints from exhaustion ~ LOL after scaring everyone like that all she needed was to eat XD phew she reveals that she does have a childhood friendship with ibuki before that incident...she stated how genki ibuki was ~ but when her sister died things changed...to how she is now she held a grudge against the ones who didnt save her sister... oh dear...big spoiler here haha! so it was tama chan that caused the magic sector of the school to blow up...i understand now ~ so basically koyuki was fighting with ibuki telling her to stop doing such things but she wouldnt listen this resulted in koyuki using on of her tamas as a bomb which blew the building up but ibuki manages to escape... oki so now koyuki and anri heads out to stop ibuki while haruhi is set off to meet yuuma to give him an item (his wand perhaps?) meanwhile jun and yuuma is at an aquarium...but they get separated ~ she tells this to haruhi over the phone and she flies off... well the end of this ep shows ibuki and shinya about to take on koyuki and anri... ahh well its nearly over...just 1 ep left i cant wait to see how they wrap things up ^_^ __________________ Siggy: hohohohoho~ \| AnimeHistory welcome to our blog ~ \| Summer2009 early review Under the radar series Summer2009: Kanamemo, GA Geijutsuka Art, NEEDLESS

Spoiler: ... the fact that there really are no "good guys" or "bad guys" at all. You can't even really pick one character and say "that's the hero!" or "that's the heroine!", because they sort of all are. I mean, sure, Haruhi and Yuma are the defacto love interest, but you don't actually see them grow or develop that much over the course of the show (other than slowly get closer to each other). You could say that's a fault, I guess, but I think it's actually because the "enemy" and key plot driver in this show is really fate and cirumstance. On the one hand, that's not very different from the game, except for the fact that, in the game, you're pretty much always following Yuma himself (if not him, then occasionally his love interest), so he sort of feels more like a hero. Seeing the story from a "global view" puts things in a different perspective, and does give that sort of "puzzle piece" feel that Deathkillz mentioned (like everything that has happened so far was part of some sort of cosmic destiny). The way it's been constructed, they've actually left a lot to the final episode -- they basically have to defeat "fate" (so to speak...) by getting Yuma over his fear of magic so they can all live "happily" (heh) ever after. So, I'm looking forward to seeing how it all ends up.

Deathkillz ~ You're dead ^__^* ~ Graphic Designer Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: uk, England Age: 34	and here comes another end to another autumn series (soz about double posting) well lets see how they wrap things up ep 12 final! ~ Spoiler: well just as Koyuki had forseen she and anri is defeated and they both lie unconcious on the ground ~ shinya breaks the barrier and they both walk inside ~ but wth? its turns out that Koyuki and anri were pretending...they had a slight change of plans and instead of being fully defeated they chose to fake their defeat... meanwhile we see haruhi still searching for yuuma and sumomo still hanging in there >.< ibuki finds the crystal and uses her magic to break the protective barrier...however when shinya notices that power has gone to her head he tries to stop her...however she knocks him unconcious... she tries to use the power to revive her sister but the power goes out of control and monsters of the past forms again... oh dear...history has come full circle well haruhi finally finds yuuma and hachi points out the anomali that is in the sky O.o ibuki tries to control the power but fails... haruhi tries to persuade yuuma to help with his magic ~but he still hesitates meanwhile the other girls are battling the monsters but they are quick to tire and it doesnt seem to be an end to them >.< ibuki puts up a protective shield but it wont last long... haruhi tells yuuma the truth about their past...just then the item that haruhi has been holding starts to glow...it turns out to be ibuki's sister's magic flute/wand...the flute then goes into yuuma's hand...with encouragement and a kiss from haruhi! shocked yuuma decides to move on forward (haha the scream from hachi and jun XD) the girls are unable to fight for much longer but then haruhi manages to arrive in time ^_^ yuuma plays the flute and soothes the power back...the then flies closer to the source...ibuki has give up hope but hearing the flute it reminds her of her sister...yuuma flies down but gets attacked by a bigger monster...he is protected but the spirit of ibuki's sister and he makes his way to the crystal...all the girls chant their energy into yuuma and he is able to destroy the protective field around the crystal...when with all his remaining strength he seals the crystal... yuuma gives ibuki the floot and she sees a projection of her sister...in the projection she soothes ibuki and she breaks down crying ^_^ its all over and sumomo wakes up fine ~ she sees fireworks outside... Impz Insanity Anime Blogger Join Date: Oct 2006	all right, i made a decently short summary of Happiness Episode 12, the final episode in my anime blog. Honestly though, Happiness! was a bit of a disappointment for me. With the lack of a budget and a moderately average story line, Happiness! flunked the test of an anime considering the rather high standards of graphical level in Japanese anime these days. However, a few redeeming facts include the oh-so-cute Jun as well as Haruhi being decent as a main lead. She is just a tad boring though. EtherNEZ AIR is good for you Join Date: Nov 2003 Location: UK Age: 46	Not a bad series, from what my quite limited Japanese made of it anyway. cough . Spoiler for last episode: I must admit I found Yuuma's flute oni sealing skill rather bland and laclustre but still, I've seen much worse....perhaps it's better for the surroundings in the end anyway. Have to think about damage to the environment and all.... I think most of us are in agreement that Jun 'man trap', was quite obviously one of the highlights of the show . I'm really not quite sure what's going through the minds of the game/anime designers these days.... but drink it up regardless!!! (that's a bit of rhetoric actually but feel free to enlighten me ^_~) kicks ren, just start working again already, damn it! Last edited by EtherNEZ; 2006-12-26 at 20:18. Sailor Enlil GWAAAA! Join Date: Oct 2004 Location: Philippines	Well it looks like discussion died out completely after the last ep (even though the subs are still far from done). I'm reporting here about the just released OVA, which focuses on JUN! Spoiler: It starts off with Jun in the shower (or at least we get a sillouette), then freshening up. Next shows various "typical morning" scenes of the various cast members - Anri getting another spell botched up (resulting in a swarm of magical butterflies that gets Haruhi all worried for some reason) to be fixed by Haruhi (using magical circle-like portals to suck them away), Shinya attacking Hachi after catching Hachi in another "intimate" moment with his sister, Sumomo all lively and pestering Ibuki causing Ibuki fire some rain-like beams in retaliation, and Koyuki working on another spell. Just a few problems: one of Anri's magical butterflies gets away, Shinya's lightning attack on Hachi goes flying over Hachi's head, one of Ibuki's beams goes wild, and Koyuki's spell results in some large pink blob that flies off. All of these combine together into a glowing magic thing that flies straight towards Jun, who's unaware unti Yuma warns him, albeit a bit too late. Jun is hit and bathed in a bright light. When the smoke clears, it seems Jun is unharmed and Yuma helps Jun stand up. Just then Jun feels something weird about his chest, and runs off quickly to the restroom and checks underneath. Minutes later in the classroom Jun makes a startling announcement - he's turned into a real girl! Soon all the boys in school (and even one of the male teachers) start admiring her, especially Hachi, and a fanclub is formed by the freshmen. Just as Jun is starting to enjoy her femininity, Hachi suddenly approaches her and wants to kiss her, much to Jun's shock. Jun resorts to her patented Patriot Missile Kick, which somehow doesn't actually do much to Hachi (instead of being launched into the stratosphere, he's just standing there with a footprint on his face). A shocked Jun wonders what went wrong, and apparently Haruhi explains that now that Jun's a girl she's not as strong as she used to be. Hachi tries to kiss her again, only to be bopped on the head by Shinya with his bokken, who then tries to kiss Jun as well, but is in turn bopped on the head by his sister (using a dumbell!). Jun wonders what the hell is going on when Anri points out that all the boys have suddenly gone feral and lusty after Jun. Yuma (who surprisingly is not acting up like the other boys) and Haruhi help Jun run away, and a big chase ensues (Koyuki stops them at one point, much to their chargin, then after a count of 3 by Koyuki, more crazed boys appear behind her forcing Jun and co to run the other way. Eventually the trio reach the faculty room. Before Jun knocks Suzuri opens the door and lets them in. From what I gather, her explanation is that the magic spell that turned Jun into a girl is also causing all the boys in school to turn into crazed maniacs when they see her, and that to make them stop means to undo the spell, which also means that Jun will turn back into a guy. Jun is distraught at first, not wanting to turn back into a boy, but she's somehow convinced by Suzuri. Suzuri then presents a magical girl's outfit and staff, apparently used by Suzuri during her younger years (as Yuma imagines it) and explains to Jun what to do. Donning the outfit and carrying the staff, Jun hitches a ride with Haruhi (using Soprano) flying around school to get all the boys' attention. Jun is deposited on the school roof while all the boys gather on the school grounds. Jun then says something about loving everyone then chants a spell that causes heart-shaped Sakura petals to float around much to everyone's delight. After the spell is done Jun is back to being a boy. Later Jun and Hachi are arguing about some promise (not sure what), then Jun makes Hachi stand next to the window before lauching his Patriot Missile Kick again, this time sending Hachi out the window. Anri then wonders why Yuma wasn't crazed like the other boys, before somehow planting her hands on his chest and feels something suspcious. To Yuma's horror, he has boobs! To make things worse, he turns around and checks under his pants, then has a panicked look on his face and mutters something causing Haruhi to have a disgusted expression. Suddenly all the boys are feral again, this time going after - YUMA!
