My copy just shipped... and I noticed the price increase. We'll see if it's worth it I guess, but I just want to buy it so that hopefully they keep releasing them.

I picked up the entire set of Yen Press's Yotsuba collection. Very good quality print, paper, binding, and attention to detail. Almost as good as the original japanese productions

TP needs to watch out -- I'm hoping Yen grabs ARIA away from them at the moment.

And in the "Saw that one coming a mile away".... just got this from my bookseller (B&N) about volume 5:

Quote:
We regret to inform you that the release date for the pre-ordered merchandise listed below has been changed. We expect to ship the item(s) soon and will send you an email when it is ready to leave our warehouse. If we cannot acquire the merchandise within 30 days, we will notify you by email.

Please accept our sincere apologies for the delay.
The B&N website says:
Quote:
Aria, Volume 5 by Kozue Amano

Paperback
Details
Usually ships within 2-3 days
  • ISBN-13: 9781427805140
  • Pub. Date: 11/03/2009
The TP website claims:
Quote:
Aria Volume 5

  • PAPERBACK: 192 PAGES
  • Language: English
  • ISBN: 1-4278-0514-8
  • EAN: 978-1-4278-0514-0
  • AVAILABLE: NOW
  • MSRP: $10.99
So........ not exactly on the same page, are they? Sorry, TP but you aren't exactly on my "trusted" list these days. Be more reliable and I'll happily change my opinion.

Could be an issue with Diamond Comics.
That aside, it doesn't make TP any less nonsense.

Well, mine shipped before the 3rd and I have it now. It looks to be the same quality as the previous volumes... there's also a preview for Volume 6, so I'm hopeful anyway.

Bought a copy of V.5 today at B&N. While its list price is $1 more, the pages are thicker so the problem with porous, see-through images has been largely rectified.

Pages are indeed thicker. The fancy pages are still rather "smudged" compared to the original (a common problem with many of TP's renditions). Some odd localization in translations but nothing really horrible ("Holy Guacamole" .... well, she *is* a bit of a ditz ).

Okay.... will they finish the series? Its pretty crappy when that's a serious question for any of these publishers lately. Also, going through TP's offerings -- over a 1/3(1/2?) of it is no longer japanese manga but 'english original' comics done in manga style. I guess there's a market for this but most of them are fairly uninteresting to me from a cultural perspective.

Not enough budget for an episode ;_;
Also, this chapter was around the time the butthurt about Alicia started.

i hope they do a dvd special and animate this chapter. if the series can last 50+ episodes, support a full range of audio dramas, an ova, and countless merchandise publications, they can afford to animate this one chapter... especially since its probably the most fitting chapter in the vein of "what is Aria."

and yes, i am upset with the Alicia development. what the eff.

yeah, dvd special probably won't happen. i can dream though.

Origination was cut down to half, because the producers I think wanted to get rid of the mysterious elements.

And it was a race against time - manga was ending around the same time the anime was.

Just to say that some #!?# took over Amano Kozue official website.

It's now a page site with a load commercial links

Before: http://web.archive.org/web/200808220....sakura.ne.jp/

After: http://ariapokoten.sakura.ne.jp/

It's been like that for quite a while now - since this past summer, at least. I discovered ARIA in May of this year and first tried to get to the website in June, I think it was, and it looked nothing like the first link you provided and more like the second.

What do you mean by "original"? The chapters wrapped up before they aired in Origination.

hmmm, somehow Akari's promotion didn't seem as emotional as it did in the anime. hopefully the next chapter will continue from where this one left off.
