Typing speed
So we all spend a lot of time online typing large amounts of text on forums and whatnot. I recently decided to take a typing speed test (here if you're interested). I came out with the very good typing speed of 53 Words per minute. When I just typed stuff in my head I went up to 70. However I'm not completely using the proper touch typing technique.
So what kind of typing speed do you guys have? Let's all compete to see who has the best speed! Also, if you do have a good speed, how did you get good at it? Me, I played Typing of the Dead, but I also chatted a lot... |

Haven't done one of these in a while.
Got 60WPM. My hands are too big for proper technique (I just rest my hands over the keyboard whereever is comfortable, ignoring "home row keys" entirely), but it doesn't slow me down that much.

With your typing speed test for the first time I typed 55wpm without any mistakes.
Who else types like 4 to 5 words and realize they made a mistake so ends up backspaces your 4 to 5 words to correct that mistake? I think just having essays in general to type is what helped my speed. Plus, we live in the world of computers and texting so I bet that influnced most of us too. I know I can't really brag as much becasue I have friends that can type 70 words and above. Some can even reach over 100wpm.

Hadn't done a test in a while.... it gave me a score of 54wpm with no errors. Most of my slowness came from trying to decide if the spaces were "one or two" long. I come from the era when that mattered....
I took typing (IBM Selectrics for the win) in high school, never regretted it - especially when I got to my first job and many of the engineers were penciling their programs onto special data entry sheets for a "data entry person" to key in. O.o My fellow new-hires and I were appalled.

I got 88 wpm with no mistakes, but I was typing way faster than I normally do... or wait, maybe not. Heh, I did try pretty hard XD My English typing is way faster than my Korean or Japanese though.
Edit: I gust tried the typeracer.com thing that germanturkey posted, it's weirdly fun! I won against two other people at 89 wpm XD Ok, tried again, got 103 wpm O.o

I have the habit of starting over words completely if I make one mistake, even if it's the last letter in the word. If I'm actually just typing what I'm thinking, I know I can go much faster. But for now, my typing speed on the test was 66 words per minute.

54 words per second, with one mistake.
I must say, I type faster than I give myself credit for. It usually takes a long time for me to come with up replies on any forum or message board, though. Then again, I put too much thought into every little post when I could have ended this a few sentences ago.

No mistakes, 86wpm... and I don't even type correctly!
I use one finger on my right hand and two fingers on my left hand, and my left thumb for the spacebar and my left pinky for Shift. I could type a lot faster with a regular keyboard, but I'm on my laptop which has a strange layout and shortened keys, which I often slip and miss, even after owning this laptop for a good three months.

I agree My average speed seems to be 90 wpm, I didn't realize I typed so fast O.o But then my fingers get slow again after a couple tries... And then I think, what's the point of typing so fast?
