Yuuno's more "fundamentals of magic" and Vita's more "advanced combat tactics", but they've both had to teach both at some point, and don't lack for understanding in the other field.

I only found 00-Raiser's fanfic about Vita wanting to break Yuuno's barriers so badly.

There's also a brief tease in his "Image Change" story.

I didn't remember that F91/00-Raiser had written both of them. (Also, it seems I didn't review the other. Crap!)


But if one wants to find a weakness to the Yuuno/Hayate pairing, it's that they NEVER interact. The only time that they're even in the same time and place, to my knowledge, is the showdown with the Defense Program.

In the post-A's parties the cast hold in supplementary manga and Sound Stages, Yuuno and Hayate might be in the same party, but they don't have any dialogue with each other.

Hayate does mention that in order to construct her own Unison, Armed and Storage Devices, she's considering asking Yuuno as well as Mari for help. So she's definitely aware of him.

(I'd question whether or not she's aware enough to actually have a grasp of his abilities, but even if he can't help with design or construction, he can help with tracking down old records of past Unison Devices. But earlier in the season, Nanoha and Fate seemed to think that Yuuno could help repair Raising Heart and Bardiche. I'm not sure what's going on here; is Yuuno mechanically savvy?)

Yuuno likely wasn't involved in Hayate's physical rehabilitation, in part because they didn't know each other that well, and also because Hayate had the Wolkenritter for constant support (including her own physician).

But Yuuno would definitely have been involved in Nanoha's physical rehabilitation after her accident, which put Nanoha and Hayate in the same program together. So Yuuno would have been there for Hayate by extention a few times.

I'd speculate on how Hayate might turn to Yuuno for information to help with her cases in her first job, but what sort of job does a "Special Investigator" DO, anyway? How is it different from the investigations conducted by the Enforcers?

Is "Special Investigations" the TSAB's version of "Internal Affairs?" That would fit Hayate's circumstances as much as the Enforcer career path fits Fate's.

That is, Fate goes out and deals with dangerous criminals like her mother, and Hayate makes sure that the TSAB isn't harboring any more Gil Grahams.

(Fate and Hayate met in the middle with Jail Scaglietti, a dangerous criminal who turned out to be created and funded by people within the TSAB.)


If you're of the opinion that Hayate should have progessed in her magical combat skills as much over ten years as Nanoha did in six months, then Yuuno is one of the more obvious choices of magical instructors.

The Wolkenritter would be experts on battle tactics and practical combat application of spells, but as far as the magic itself goes, Hayate's style is a mix of Midchild and Belkan, and mostly focused on bombardment spells. They probably can't help much with the fundamentals of that.

Nanoha had to learn the fundamentals from Yuuno, and Fate and Arf needed him to provide them a better understanding of the same than Linith was able to provide. Which not only means they might still know less about it than him, it proves that he's qualified to teach it, even to students who already have a sloppy start. (It's harder to instill good habits in those who've already developed bad habits.)

Chrono's another logical choice, but Yuuno's probably got more free time, a more flexible schedule, and... well, Chrono might have already have been sort-of-but-not-really dating Amy at that time, which would cut into his free hours.

Plus, Chrono's not as good with fields as Yuuno (which he implies himself in a Sound Stage), so despite Yuuno's poor track record of keeping Girl-Shaped WMD's contained, Chrono would be even less successful.

Oh, don't get me wrong, it's certainly a funny little piece. It made me chuckle a few times! It's just one of those fics where I had to reread the full thing a couple of times to get the full humor of it, and even then I can only really sort of... look at it.

From what I recall, the Hayate/Yuuno pairing became a really big hit because the two were always playing as the beta couple in his main epic NanoFate stories. So it's sort of an easy pairing to work with if you want to keep Yuuno away from Nanoha for the NanoFate to happen, but you don't want him to be completely alone.

For a while, no one moved much less spoke. The only sounds registered were the faint ticking of the clock and a slight clinking noise as Yuuno set down the two plates of food he had prepared.

On unsteady feet, Hayate rose from her seat and approached the computer display. Her footsteps felt heavy like iron slabs were tied around her ankles. She reached out to the image of the silver haired beauty, not entirely believing what she was seeing. "How? When? This isn't an illusion, is it?" Hayate questioned in a near whisper.

Seeing that his friend's legs were about to give out beneath her, Yuuno tossed aside his reservations about the situation and hurried to her side. The brunette collapsed into his arms, but her eyes remained fixed on Reinforce's image. He shot an apologetic look to the woman, indicating that he had not planned for this to happen. He was knocked to the floor as Hayate violently turned around to face him, landing on top of Yuuno with tears in her blue eyes.

"Haya-" He was cut off when she grasped his shirt in both hands and tried to pull him up to bring him up to face her, a task she was unable to accomplish.

"Yuuno, tell me what's going on." Her voice trembled. "Tell me this isn't a horrible joke..." The exhaustion and lack of food combined with sudden and severe emotional stress finally took its toll on the commander. Hayate's eyes trembled before closing, her hands losing their already weakened grip. Her body slumped against Yuuno's, having surrendered to sleep against its owner's will.

Reinforce had watched the whole scene unfold with widened eyes and a shocked expression upon her normally collected countenance. She reached out, only to find herself hampered by the lack of physical body and the bindings of the computer. It was horrifying, in a way, to be unable to comfort someone who was so close to your heart, yet only feet away. Her surprise and terror turned to a look of severe sadness.

Yuuno slowly wrapped his arms around the woman atop him, brushing her hair in a comforting manner as silent sobs shook her sleeping form. "Shhh... Its alright..." He spoke in a soft tone, trying to calm his friend. "Rest now."

It was with some difficulty that the blonde managed to go from a prone position beneath the brunette, to standing with her held in his arms. "What are you...?" Began Reinforce upon snapping out of her daze.

"I'm putting her to bed. She needs rest and I'm not a very comfortable mattress." Responded Yuuno without humor. "I'll be right back."

He carefully took Hayate to his bedroom in a princess carry, her soft sobs having passed leaving only the marks of tears and a runny nose upon his shirt. He placed her on the bed then set about making her comfortable. Yuuno removed her socks and then undid her tie and hairclips, eliciting barely a twitch from the passed out brunette. After pulling the sheets over Hayate's tired form, he stroked her hair once more and then left the room, closing the door behind him.

"You are a good man, Yuuno." Commented Reinforce when the librarian returned. She watched him set aside the tie, socks, and hairclips so they wouldn't be forgotten later.

Placing saran-wrap over Hayate's lunch, he put it away in the refrigerator. While his head was still in the large storage unit, he spoke to Reinforce, loudly enough that he could be heard from the distance. "What are you going to do now? There's no way to conceal your return now."

"It is... far sooner than I would have preferred, but I will not hide from Lady Hayate any further." A pause in which melancholy consumed the device's features. "I should have had you contact her immediately."

"You should have." Reinforce winced at the harsh reply. "And I'm just as guilty for not trying to convincing you to do so or doing it myself." Picking up his own lunch plate, Yuuno went over to the computer desk and sat down. A severe expression was on his normally genial features as he silently took a bite of the sandwich.

Chewing methodically, Yuuno's mind was mulling over the events that had just occurred. Never before in all the time he'd known her, had he seen Hayate so distraught. While he'd heard about her reaction when the Wolkenritter had been killed by Graham's familiars during the Book of Darkness Incident, he was not witness to it. It was heartbreaking to see the normally playful and composed Hayate in such a state.

"Yuuno... About earlier. Your theory for freeing me from this digital prison." The statement brought the man out of his thoughts. Reinforce continued one she had his attention. "I would like to try it. No... I WILL do it. There is no trying at this point. I will make it work, one way or another." There was steel in her voice and resolve had banished her melancholy. "Lady Hayate is my family, the Wolkenritter as well. I left them once before and I will not do it again. Defense Program be damned. Should it dare return, the I shall tear it apart with my bare hands."

Yuuno's eyes remained fixed on the impassioned woman before him. "Alright." He spoke after a few moments of silence. Leaning forward, he continued, "We'll do this. I promised that would help you, after all. Also, for Hayate."

Reinforce nodded. "What will we have to do?"

"Like I said earlier, we are going to require that you be supplied with an external mana source to get your linker core back up to its original levels of production." The librarian re-stated his theory from earlier. "This won't be anything like what was needed to fill pages for the Book. It'll be periodic donations of mana from someone. I'm more than willing to provide my own power and I'm certain everyone else would be as well. I'm fairly confident that the Wolkenritter and Hayate would be able to give you mana most closely synchronized with your own."

"How will you transfer the mana into my... prison?" It was a valid question and one that could make or break the entire plan.

Yuuno leaned back into his chair, ignoring the half-eaten lunch on the desk. "Since spells are really nothing more than mana put through a specific set of equations. It'll be a matter of making an equation that your prison can interpret and send the mana to you in a usable way." Sighing, he ran a hand through his long, blonde hair. "It'll just take some time to develop, unless..."

"Unless what? Is there something that could hasten the process?" Oh, how she wanted to be free of this realm. Now, more than ever. Reinforce could once again be with her family.

"I have been working on some new barrier theories, but I'm not sure that it would be worth the delay to see if they'd help or not." He admitted honestly. "I'm also not certain I could handle all the equations by myself even if it did work."

Reinforce blinked. "You do not have a device of your own?"

"I was the former owner of Nanoha's Raising Heart, but situation forced it into her hands and it was pretty much hers from then on. I can say that Raising Heart is definitely in better hands." He replied with a feeling of nostalgia, recalling his first meeting with the little girl who would later grow up to become one of the TSAB's most powerful and feared combatants.

That was something unexpected to Reinforce and only opened up more questions for her. But those would have to wait for a later time. For now, they would work on more immediate concerns. "Then let us get to work."

Yuuno nodded and proceeded to polish off his lunch with renewed vigor. "I'll work on the equation. I want you to go over information from the Belkan era." The silver haired woman nodded her head in agreement. "When we first sealed you, we didn't have access to the Infinity Library as we do now. It was a barely functioning mess with fifty years of backlog. Now..." A wicked grin graced his features.

Using Yuuno's remote access to the Infinity Library, with an accepted excuse of it being a personal project to any messages asking what was going on, Reinforce began pouring over the well organized stacks of data. Meanwhile, Yuuno himself was surrounded by a massive array of glowing green symbols, shapes, and equations, working hard at crafting a means for mana transfer.

They were hard at work for the better part of six hours, a mutual drive kept pushing them forward. Neither took a break. Neither wanted to take a break. It was only the sound of a dull thump that penetrated their concentration, most owing to the fact that it came from behind Yuuno's bedroom door.

Reinforce and Yuuno shared a look before the man banished his work and went to the door. Steeling himself, he slowly entered the room. "Hayate. Are you up?" He asked in a soft voice, just in case she hadn't awakened. A groan from the side of the bed answered him. It seemed that the brunette had fallen out of bed.

"Wha? Where am I? Yuuno?" Hayate questioned groggily, not really awake yet. She pulled herself back onto the bed and lay there, facing the ceiling in ruffled clothes. "I had the weirdest dream... Reinforce was alive and she was living in your computer." It seemed that the earlier events were too surreal to seem true to the young woman.

"Hayate," Yuuno approached the bed and sat down next to her. "That was not a dream." She sat up immediately, eyes widening and words on the tip of her tongue. They were silenced as he grasped her shoulders in a firm grip. "Calm down and let me explain. Please, Hayate." She nodded slowly, not wanting her voice to betray her.

With careful words, Yuuno began explaining the situation to his childhood friend and the reasons behind not contacting her immediately. He did not allow her to ask questions yet, holding up a hand to stall her until he was finished. "...and that's our current plan of action."

Hayate didn't know whether to slap the man next to her or kiss him. Slapping him for not telling her immediately, despite now knowing the reasoning behind it. Kissing him for what he was doing for them. The two canceled each other out and she settled for wrapping her arms around Yuuno and hugging him with everything she had. "Thank you, Yuuno... thank you."

Returning the hug, he smiled. "Don't thank me quite yet. There's still a lot to do."

"...Still" Hayate seemed like she wanted to say something else, but wasn't quite sure what.

"Would you like to meet her?"

"Yea. I'd like that." She nodded into Yuuno's shirt. It would be difficult, but now she would be ready. That is, ready as she ever could be in such a situation.

"Come on then." He broke the embrace and helped her off of the bed and took her to the door. Knocking on the door separating the bedroom from the rest of his home, he called out to Reinforce. "Reinforce, we're coming out."

Yuuno opened the door and Hayate stepped into the living room where Reinforce's computer was. For the second time that day, blood red met dark blue.

It was Reinforce who broke the silence. "I'm home, Lady Hayate." Home is where the heart is and the heart is with family.

"Welcome home, Reinforce."

I can smell a Yuuno/Reinforce/Hayate threeway.

Oh, and when is Reinforce going to meet the Wolkens?

Vivio loved sleeping in. Vivio loved Hayate. Vivio loved when she got both of her big loves in one snugly swoop on rainy mornings when she didn’t need to feel guilty about her morning runs. Today was such a glorious, cloudy day. She was in Hayate’s bed, happily wrapped in a mess of sheets and pillows while the sounds of rain fell softly against the trees outside. One of the windows was open and she could detect the earthy odours of water hitting grass, mixed with the faint, piney scent of blooming miha. Hayate lay atop her. Her slim, bordering fragile body spread against the taller blonde, her head at rest against Vivio’s chest.

She counted Hayate’s breaths, counted the small puffs of hot air brushing against delicate skin and thought every single one a miracle. Vivio brushed a hand through the other’s hair and appreciated the softness of it, appreciated how it looked so ruggedly wild in the morning or after a night of good sex. Hayate could be so painfully beautiful without even trying and Vivio felt her heart swell at the scene. It filled her with an intense urge to kiss her slowly.

Things were quiet for awhile. Sensing the change in her partner’s breathing, Hayate stirred with a content sigh and reacted accordingly by making her own contribution to this beautiful, peaceful moment.

She cupped one of Vivio’s breasts, kissed it, and squeezed.

A bird chirped outside.

Vivio’s eyebrows, weighed by sleep, rose a few notches as her sense of peace and romance was shattered. Heat flushed her cheeks while the decorated genius ace happily snogged around for a bit more. She had never wanted to facepalm so badly in her whole life.

“Ok, time out.” She mumbled incredulously and smacked Hayate atop her head. “Get up here and fess up.”

Hayate looked up at her sleepily with a glorious bed-head, surprised at the interruption. “What’s wrong?”

Vivio made a vague motion with her hand, trying to express her own uncertainty while propping the other up. Hayate grumbled at this. She wanted nothing better than to fall back into their previous position and keep doing what she so obviously enjoyed.

“What is it with you—” Vivio began in honest puzzlement. “And these?” She gesticulated at her chest. Hayate made a semi-successful attempt to blink her sleepiness away. She looked at Vivio, then at said breasts and then back at Vivio again in utter bewilderment.

“You woke me up to ask me why I like your breasts?” She asked sheepishly.

“Well, yes!”

“…um, okay?” Hayate yawned. She was quiet for a few moments while she tried to comprehend the other’s logic. “I… guess I like them because they are nicely shaped. They are bouncy and comfortable and a huge turn on. I like them because I love the girl they come with, which makes them an important part of this relationship. Did I miss anything?” Vivio wanted to throttle her a little.

“No, seriously Hayate. What’s up with you? I’ve been waking up to you canoodling them for weeks!”

Hayate had the grace to look guilty at least. “You didn’t tell me you minded.”

“I don’t.” Vivio responded quickly while the rest of her face began to burn. “But it would be nice if -I- was included in it too, you know. I feel like you’ve been leaving me out here. It should be you, me and them.”

“One big happy family.”

THWACK.

“…sorry.” Hayate winced, and then slumped down beside Vivio. “Ok, fine. I’ll tell you.”

“I’m waiting.”

Hayate let out a deep sigh and cuddled closer, dropping a soft kiss on Vivio’s shoulder. Her bangs fell across her face loosely while she thought her answer over carefully.

“You know how I always feel a little homesick during spring?”

“Yeah, Nanoha-mama is the same.”

“That’s why. They remind me of Japan.” Hayate said evenly without missing a beat.

The silence was thick indeed while the gears of Vivio’s mind tried to process the words just spoken by her beloved.

“My breasts remind you of Japan?” Vivio asked in boggling disbelief, unsure of whether she should feel relieved or call Shamal to book Hayate a psychiatric evaluation. She stared at Hayate who managed somehow to nod seriously and grin outrageously at the same time.

“They are puffy and soft and come with a pink ornamental detail at the top.”

“What!?”

“Viv, I love you very much,” Hayate explained factually while her eyes turned dreamily distant. “But I would kill for a Sakura flavoured daifuku-mochi right now. I haven’t had one of those in years and its murdering me.”

Vivio’s mouth went dry as she gaped and began to comprehend. “So my breasts are…”

“The next best thing, yes.”

Nanoha held the old-fashioned phone to her ear while she mixed boiled rice and red-bean paste with a spatula in a bowl.

“No mom, I have no idea, but could you send a batch of dried Sakura blossoms with your next package? We’re running out. Vivio has been asking for the sweets non-stop recently.”

She made a short pause to let Momoko speak. Nanoha smiled at her mother’s genuine fondness of her adopted daughter.

“I’m not sure what started it but I’m happy she’s taking an interest in Japanese food. She really needs to go easier on the proteins. I think Hayate is having a good influence on her in this regard.”

My only real excuse is that it's the Chinese moon festival soon and I'm craving a moon cake like crazy. A daifuku is a cake made out of rice flour and stuffed with various fillings. It is gloriously delicious and I am sure that anyone who moved away from Japan would miss it ^_^. Sakura blossoms during spring, if you didn't know, meaning that you can only get the fresh sakura blossoms for your sweets during springtime.

I really don't know what else to say, so you guys tell me xD.

The strange thing here is, when I read the story, knowledge of Hayate's general canon breast-fetish made me sit there and scratch my head, going, "Wait a minute, Hayate needs an excuse to fixate on the biggest bustline in the series*, particularly when she's sleeping with its owner? And if Vivio's been obsessed with Hayate since she was 10, this comes as a surprise to her?"

(Or was I supposed to assume that the whole thing was just a desperate, last second excuse by Hayate to "justify" herself and that Vivio called her bluff by ordering all that food? I'm very puzzled.)

Genya felt like he was going to faint. "...Well, at least Subaru won't be the youngest in the family anymore."

Still, he felt like fainting at the sheer implication of it. "It could be worse..." He chuckled softly. "You could be having twins." Quint and Genya shared a laugh at that.

Watching them, Auris smiled and went to tell Regius and Zest the good news. At least something good came from this whole debacle from years ago.

About Quint's call: "I'm going to be a mother!" sounds weird for this case as she is already a mother (souds like she isn't one yet, and combined with the whole in-universe theme of human/clone/cyborg/magic program/etc. treated equally gives the false impression she doesn't look Subaru and Ginga as her daughters). Maybe something like "I'm pregnant" or "I'm going to give birth".

He was knocked to the floor as Hayate violently turned around to face him, landing on top of Yuuno with tears in her blue eyes.

"Haya-" He was cut off when she grasped his shirt in both hands and tried to pull him up to bring him up to face her, a task she was unable to accomplish.

"Yuuno, tell me what's going on." Her voice trembled. "Tell me this isn't a horrible joke..." The exhaustion and lack of food combined with sudden and severe emotional stress finally took its toll on the commander. Hayate's eyes trembled before closing, her hands losing their already weakened grip. Her body slumped against Yuuno's, having surrendered to sleep against its owner's will.

Reinforce had watched the whole scene unfold with widened eyes and a shocked expression upon her normally collected countenance. She reached out, only to find herself hampered by the lack of physical body and the bindings of the computer. It was horrifying, in a way, to be unable to comfort someone who was so close to your heart, yet only feet away. Her surprise and terror turned to a look of severe sadness.

Yuuno slowly wrapped his arms around the woman atop him, brushing her hair in a comforting manner as silent sobs shook her sleeping form. "Shhh... Its alright..." He spoke in a soft tone, trying to calm his friend. "Rest now."

It was with some difficulty that the blonde managed to go from a prone position beneath the brunette, to standing with her held in his arms. "What are you...?" Began Reinforce upon snapping out of her daze.

"I'm putting her to bed. She needs rest and I'm not a very comfortable mattress." Responded Yuuno without humor. "I'll be right back."

He carefully took Hayate to his bedroom in a princess carry, her soft sobs having passed leaving only the marks of tears and a runny nose upon his shirt. He placed her on the bed then set about making her comfortable. Yuuno removed her socks and then undid her tie and hairclips, eliciting barely a twitch from the passed out brunette. After pulling the sheets over Hayate's tired form, he stroked her hair once more and then left the room, closing the door behind him.

"You are a good man, Yuuno." Commented Reinforce when the librarian returned. She watched him set aside the tie, socks, and hairclips so they wouldn't be forgotten later.

Placing saran-wrap over Hayate's lunch, he put it away in the refrigerator. While his head was still in the large storage unit, he spoke to Reinforce, loudly enough that he could be heard from the distance. "What are you going to do now? There's no way to conceal your return now."

"It is... far sooner than I would have preferred, but I will not hide from Lady Hayate any further." A pause in which melancholy consumed the device's features. "I should have had you contact her immediately."

"You should have." Reinforce winced at the harsh reply. "And I'm just as guilty for not trying to convincing you to do so or doing it myself." Picking up his own lunch plate, Yuuno went over to the computer desk and sat down. A severe expression was on his normally genial features as he silently took a bite of the sandwich.

Chewing methodically, Yuuno's mind was mulling over the events that had just occurred. Never before in all the time he'd known her, had he seen Hayate so distraught. While he'd heard about her reaction when the Wolkenritter had been killed by Graham's familiars during the Book of Darkness Incident, he was not witness to it. It was heartbreaking to see the normally playful and composed Hayate in such a state.

"Yuuno... About earlier. Your theory for freeing me from this digital prison." The statement brought the man out of his thoughts. Reinforce continued one she had his attention. "I would like to try it. No... I WILL do it. There is no trying at this point. I will make it work, one way or another." There was steel in her voice and resolve had banished her melancholy. "Lady Hayate is my family, the Wolkenritter as well. I left them once before and I will not do it again. Defense Program be damned. Should it dare return, the I shall tear it apart with my bare hands."

Yuuno's eyes remained fixed on the impassioned woman before him. "Alright." He spoke after a few moments of silence. Leaning forward, he continued, "We'll do this. I promised that would help you, after all. Also, for Hayate."

Reinforce nodded. "What will we have to do?"

"Like I said earlier, we are going to require that you be supplied with an external mana source to get your linker core back up to its original levels of production." The librarian re-stated his theory from earlier. "This won't be anything like what was needed to fill pages for the Book. It'll be periodic donations of mana from someone. I'm more than willing to provide my own power and I'm certain everyone else would be as well. I'm fairly confident that the Wolkenritter and Hayate would be able to give you mana most closely synchronized with your own."

"How will you transfer the mana into my... prison?" It was a valid question and one that could make or break the entire plan.

Yuuno leaned back into his chair, ignoring the half-eaten lunch on the desk. "Since spells are really nothing more than mana put through a specific set of equations. It'll be a matter of making an equation that your prison can interpret and send the mana to you in a usable way." Sighing, he ran a hand through his long, blonde hair. "It'll just take some time to develop, unless..."

"Unless what? Is there something that could hasten the process?" Oh, how she wanted to be free of this realm. Now, more than ever. Reinforce could once again be with her family.

"I have been working on some new barrier theories, but I'm not sure that it would be worth the delay to see if they'd help or not." He admitted honestly. "I'm also not certain I could handle all the equations by myself even if it did work."

Reinforce blinked. "You do not have a device of your own?"

"I was the former owner of Nanoha's Raising Heart, but situation forced it into her hands and it was pretty much hers from then on. I can say that Raising Heart is definitely in better hands." He replied with a feeling of nostalgia, recalling his first meeting with the little girl who would later grow up to become one of the TSAB's most powerful and feared combatants.

That was something unexpected to Reinforce and only opened up more questions for her. But those would have to wait for a later time. For now, they would work on more immediate concerns. "Then let us get to work."

Yuuno nodded and proceeded to polish off his lunch with renewed vigor. "I'll work on the equation. I want you to go over information from the Belkan era." The silver haired woman nodded her head in agreement. "When we first sealed you, we didn't have access to the Infinity Library as we do now. It was a barely functioning mess with fifty years of backlog. Now..." A wicked grin graced his features.

Using Yuuno's remote access to the Infinity Library, with an accepted excuse of it being a personal project to any messages asking what was going on, Reinforce began pouring over the well organized stacks of data. Meanwhile, Yuuno himself was surrounded by a massive array of glowing green symbols, shapes, and equations, working hard at crafting a means for mana transfer.

They were hard at work for the better part of six hours, a mutual drive kept pushing them forward. Neither took a break. Neither wanted to take a break. It was only the sound of a dull thump that penetrated their concentration, most owing to the fact that it came from behind Yuuno's bedroom door.

Reinforce and Yuuno shared a look before the man banished his work and went to the door. Steeling himself, he slowly entered the room. "Hayate. Are you up?" He asked in a soft voice, just in case she hadn't awakened. A groan from the side of the bed answered him. It seemed that the brunette had fallen out of bed.

"Wha? Where am I? Yuuno?" Hayate questioned groggily, not really awake yet. She pulled herself back onto the bed and lay there, facing the ceiling in ruffled clothes. "I had the weirdest dream... Reinforce was alive and she was living in your computer." It seemed that the earlier events were too surreal to seem true to the young woman.

"Hayate," Yuuno approached the bed and sat down next to her. "That was not a dream." She sat up immediately, eyes widening and words on the tip of her tongue. They were silenced as he grasped her shoulders in a firm grip. "Calm down and let me explain. Please, Hayate." She nodded slowly, not wanting her voice to betray her.

With careful words, Yuuno began explaining the situation to his childhood friend and the reasons behind not contacting her immediately. He did not allow her to ask questions yet, holding up a hand to stall her until he was finished. "...and that's our current plan of action."

Hayate didn't know whether to slap the man next to her or kiss him. Slapping him for not telling her immediately, despite now knowing the reasoning behind it. Kissing him for what he was doing for them. The two canceled each other out and she settled for wrapping her arms around Yuuno and hugging him with everything she had. "Thank you, Yuuno... thank you."

Returning the hug, he smiled. "Don't thank me quite yet. There's still a lot to do."

"...Still" Hayate seemed like she wanted to say something else, but wasn't quite sure what.

"Would you like to meet her?"

"Yea. I'd like that." She nodded into Yuuno's shirt. It would be difficult, but now she would be ready. That is, ready as she ever could be in such a situation.

"Come on then." He broke the embrace and helped her off of the bed and took her to the door. Knocking on the door separating the bedroom from the rest of his home, he called out to Reinforce. "Reinforce, we're coming out."

Yuuno opened the door and Hayate stepped into the living room where Reinforce's computer was. For the second time that day, blood red met dark blue.

It was Reinforce who broke the silence. "I'm home, Lady Hayate." Home is where the heart is and the heart is with family.

"Welcome home, Reinforce."

I'm such a sucker for those Hayate/Reinforce scenes.

Watching as some of her sisters came out of the bath, Quattro shook her head. Smiling, she waved at them. "Wendi, Sette, Nove." The three were wrapped in towels and looked at her. "I was wondering if you saw Otto and Deed today."

"The twins finished their baths before we got in." Sette nodded to Quattro. "Now, if you will excuse us, I would like to get dressed before Sein decides to compare my breasts to Tre's." Sette looked around before continuing. "Again."

Wendi giggled, her tail twitching behind her. "That's funny, Sette. I thought you didn't have a sense of humor."

"I am unaware of any sense of humor that I may possess, Wendi." Sette said as she walked off, her long, wet, pink hair settling just over her large round butt as she walked away.

Wendi tilted her head as she watched Sette walk away. She pouted as Nove slapped the back of her head. "Hey! I can look."

Nove twitched and rubbed her head. "You barely felt that." Wendi just rubbed the back of her head and giggled softly. "Sometimes I wonder if it's worth it having Sein train you."

Wendi shrugged, her chest jiggling before she walked off and wrapped her tail around her waist.

Nove rubbed her forehead. Somedays she felt that Wendi just did that to get a rise out of her.

Quattro shrugged and turned to walk away. She had other things to do, and watching Wendi mess with Nove wasn't one of the things she wanted to do today. When Quattro turned a corner, she nearly ran over Lutecia. "Ah, Lutecia." She smiled at the girl, who looked at her, blinking slowly. "You've done a really good job on your missions lately, no screw ups." Not to mention that the girl's training was coming along well. For a human, she was plenty strong, her summons were as well. "I think it's time I give you some magic to learn." She chuckled. "Beyond what you already know, of course."

"You know magic?" Lutecia blinked as Quattro pulled out a thin book from her cape.

"Just some stuff that was in those temples. I can't use it, but I figure you can." Quattro rubbed Lutecia on the top of the head before cupping her cheek softly and rubbed it. "Do well and I'll show you more rewards."

Lutecia nodded, her eyes shining in determination. "Of course, Master Quattro."

Looking at Lutecia and Quattro, Agito frowned to herself. "Why do I not like this?"

"Because Quattro bothers you like she bothers us." Agito turned to see the two newest members of the Numbers. "Otto and myself do not like to be near her for any length of time." A girl with a fairly modest, compared to most of her sisters, chest and long brown hair, spoke up.

"Deed is correct." Otto spoke up. Unlike the other cyborgs, no one other than Jail, Uno and Deed, no one was certain what Otto's gender was. This was not helped by the fact that Otto's face was fairly boyish and combined with Otto's short, spiky hair and soft voice that could pass as an effeminate male and the fact that other than Deed, no one had ever taken a bath with Otto, it led to some very confused cyborgs.

Jail never told, he found it funny to have them guess at Otto's gender. Though he did find Otto's golden-brown tail to be of interest.

"I have talked to Sein, Sette and neither of them seem to want to be near her if they can help it." Deed scratched her cheek with her gloved hand. The only reason they were in gloves all the time was because Jail said that while it was okay to have the gloves off at home, some people would likely be intimidated by her fingers.

Agito grumbled softly. "Where's Meister?"

"Due is..." Otto trailed off as a scream came from down the hall. "Cinque." Otto gasped and ran towards the scream. Deed and Agito quickly followed. Even though Otto and Deed didn't know Cinque very long, they both liked her and looked up to her.

Turning the corner where Cinque's screams were the loudest, they were greeted by the sight of Cinque grabbing at her right eye and rolling around on the floor while Sein was trying to get her to calm down. "Sein!" Agito floated forward and gasped as Cinque seemed to be trying to tear her face off. "What?"

"Otto, Deed, grab her arms and keep her from clawing at herself." Sein commanded the twins as she held Cinque's body down. "We need to keep her from hurting herself. Hurry!"

The two nodded and grabbed Cinque's arms as she thrashed her head and kicked her legs while screaming as if something was tearing her apart from the inside out.

Sein turned to look over her shoulder as Quattro and Lutecia stood there, looking down. Lutecia had a confused look while Quattro had a look in her eyes that Sein didn't recognize. "Quattro, get her to stop kicking me." Sein grimaced as her back was kicked again. "Dammit, Cinque, calm down!"

"If you're not going to do anything, Quattro, just move aside." A new voice spoke up and Sein was grateful as Uno stepped in and grabbed Cinque's legs. "What's going on? Last time I checked, which was yesterday, Cinque wasn't giving birth, so what's with the screaming?"

"I don't know!" Sein grunted as she tried to keep Cinque from thrashing too much. The girl's screams were heart-rending and painful. Especially when she cried out about how much it was hurting. "We were talking and then she grabbed her face and started screaming like this."

Tears were falling out of Cinque's left eye as she shook her head back and forth. "Stopppp... Huuurts soo muuuuch... Pllleaaaaaseeee..."

Sein looked up as Quattro walked up to Cinque's head. "Quattro, what are you..?" She trailed off as Quattro pulled Cinque's eye patch off. "Quattro!?!"

Quattro looked down and raised an eyebrow as Cinque looked straight up at her in shock. "...When did you grow your eye back?"

"WHAT?!" Uno looked around Sein as Sein, Otto and Deed were looking at Cinque's face in shock.

For the first time in years, Cinque blinked with both of her eyes as she gasped for air. "Pain... Going... Away..." Her face was covered in sweat as she leaned back, trembling slightly. "Hurt... So much..."

Otto, Sein and Deed looked at Cinque's face in shock. The fact that she had her right eye back was weird enough, but the truly shocking part was the color of her eye...

Instead of amber, it was a bright gold color, and the area of her eyes that were normally white were pitch black.

Quattro looked down and raised an eyebrow as Cinque looked straight up at her in shock. "...When did you grow your eye back?"

"WHAT?!" Uno looked around Sein as Sein, Otto and Deed were looking at Cinque's face in shock.

For the first time in years, Cinque blinked with both of her eyes as she gasped for air. "Pain... Going... Away..." Her face was covered in sweat as she leaned back, trembling slightly. "Hurt... So much..."

Otto, Sein and Deed looked at Cinque's face in shock. The fact that she had her right eye back was weird enough, but the truly shocking part was the color of her eye...

Instead of amber, it was a bright gold color, and the area of her eyes that were normally white were pitch black.

Cinque recovering her eye... curious by two reasons: first, I don't remember any fic before addressing this issue (was that because she considered a battle scar of sorts? I'm continuing this later)

The other is a somewhat long (by my current status: sleepy) reasoning that implies Cinque really wanted to recover her eye, as opposite of her canon counterpart. Then again, your version of Cinque may not consider a great battle (for her) so she may want to have her eye.

Nove twitched and rubbed her head. "You barely felt that." Wendi just rubbed the back of her head and giggled softly. "Sometimes I wonder if it's worth it having Sein train you."

Wendi shrugged, her chest jiggling before she walked off and wrapped her tail around her waist.

Nove rubbed her forehead. Somedays she felt that Wendi just did that to get a rise out of her.

Quattro shrugged and turned to walk away. She had other things to do, and watching Wendi mess with Nove wasn't one of the things she wanted to do today. When Quattro turned a corner, she nearly ran over Lutecia. "Ah, Lutecia." She smiled at the girl, who looked at her, blinking slowly. "You've done a really good job on your missions lately, no screw ups." Not to mention that the girl's training was coming along well. For a human, she was plenty strong, her summons were as well. "I think it's time I give you some magic to learn." She chuckled. "Beyond what you already know, of course."

"You know magic?" Lutecia blinked as Quattro pulled out a thin book from her cape.

"Just some stuff that was in those temples. I can't use it, but I figure you can." Quattro rubbed Lutecia on the top of the head before cupping her cheek softly and rubbed it. "Do well and I'll show you more rewards."

Lutecia nodded, her eyes shining in determination. "Of course, Master Quattro."

"Because Quattro bothers you like she bothers us." Agito turned to see the two newest members of the Numbers. "Otto and myself do not like to be near her for any length of time." A girl with a fairly modest, compared to most of her sisters, chest and long brown hair, spoke up.

"Deed is correct." Otto spoke up. Unlike the other cyborgs, no one other than Jail, Uno and Deed, no one was certain what Otto's gender was. This was not helped by the fact that Otto's face was fairly boyish and combined with Otto's short, spiky hair and soft voice that could pass as an effeminate male and the fact that other than Deed, no one had ever taken a bath with Otto, it led to some very confused cyborgs.

Jail never told, he found it funny to have them guess at Otto's gender. Though he did find Otto's golden-brown tail to be of interest.

"I have talked to Sein, Sette and neither of them seem to want to be near her if they can help it." Deed scratched her cheek with her gloved hand. The only reason they were in gloves all the time was because Jail said that while it was okay to have the gloves off at home, some people would likely be intimidated by her fingers.

Agito grumbled softly. "Where's Meister?"

"Due is..." Otto trailed off as a scream came from down the hall. "Cinque." Otto gasped and ran towards the scream. Deed and Agito quickly followed. Even though Otto and Deed didn't know Cinque very long, they both liked her and looked up to her.

Turning the corner where Cinque's screams were the loudest, they were greeted by the sight of Cinque grabbing at her right eye and rolling around on the floor while Sein was trying to get her to calm down. "Sein!" Agito floated forward and gasped as Cinque seemed to be trying to tear her face off. "What?"

"Otto, Deed, grab her arms and keep her from clawing at herself." Sein commanded the twins as she held Cinque's body down. "We need to keep her from hurting herself. Hurry!"

The two nodded and grabbed Cinque's arms as she thrashed her head and kicked her legs while screaming as if something was tearing her apart from the inside out.

Sein turned to look over her shoulder as Quattro and Lutecia stood there, looking down. Lutecia had a confused look while Quattro had a look in her eyes that Sein didn't recognize. "Quattro, get her to stop kicking me." Sein grimaced as her back was kicked again. "Dammit, Cinque, calm down!"

"If you're not going to do anything, Quattro, just move aside." A new voice spoke up and Sein was grateful as Uno stepped in and grabbed Cinque's legs. "What's going on? Last time I checked, which was yesterday, Cinque wasn't giving birth, so what's with the screaming?"

Rather than shuffling through Enforcers who do have clearance or are permitted to be 'in the know', the TSAB just makes a unit dedicated to those types of investigations to try and cut down on the red tape.

If I understand Yuuno's position in the TSAB correctly, he's effectively the head of the Intelligence Division. Since that division would have their tendrils everywhere, then he's in a prime position to interact with any of the characters that have to get information for an investigation. Hayate and Fate especially.

I would be surprised if Yuuno had any access to classified information that was less than 200 years old.

The Library is the archive of all information gathered from other worlds, not the vault where mission reports are sent. Yuuno's primary source of information on current events would be from his friends, family and colleagues.

Right now, the Library is such a vital intelligence asset because the biggest problems facing the TSAB come from the past, and the long, long interstellar wars have left all memories and records of the past full of holes or scattered and disorganized. Especially the ancient past that produced the Lost Logia.

That's also why archaeology, ruin-exploration and treasure-hunting are probably a booming field right now, since there's so much wreckage and so many dead worlds to search through.

If he recieves any recent classified information from the TSAB's brass, it's probably recent reports on ruins and Lost Logia along with requests to find any old or recently uncovered information about them.

In short, I don't think Yuuno is anyone's one-stop-shop for information, except as regards the past. In which area he should be the first stop, always, and never simply ignored.

And like I said: ALL of the Bureau's biggest disasters seem to have something to do with the past. Even this Bible of the Silver Cross.

Sounds right, which reinforces the idea that Yuuno probably had more free time.

Probably more so even than his counterpart, Shamal. They're both support, but Shamal's a dedicated physician and Yuuno's primarily a scholar.

There's also the age difference, in appearance and in truth. And the possibility that none of the female Wolkenritter want anything to do with male attention.

(Though to my knowledge, all of their known masters have been female. Coincidence, or trend?)

Though now I'm tempted to see how well I could pair Yuuno up with some of the other ladies once I finish Leave of Absence.

If you exclude the three Aces, and Ami because she and Chrono are canon, and Lindy, because going out with Chrono and Fate's mom would be awkward no matter how impossibly young she manages to look...

Arf, Signum, Shamal, Vita, Admiral Leti, Megane Alpine, Mariel Atenza, Shari, Charim Gracia, Shache Noueva, Ginga Nakajima, Cinque...

I'm automatically excluding anyone chronologically younger than Cinque.

There's Uno, but she's in prison.

Out of all of them, Megane Alpine would seem most suitable. At least if an interest in history is something she shares with her daughter.

"Interesting." Jail murmured as he and Uno did several tests on Cinque's newly regenerated eye. "It seems to be working normally."

Cinque sat up on the examination table and rubbed her eyes. "I don't understand, doctor. My eye shouldn't have grown back in. Unless you gave me a regeneration program?" Jail shook his head. "...Then how?"

Jail shrugged, he wasn't sure how. "Well, it's a good thing that you have vision in both eyes again."

"I think it's a little terrifying." Cinque admitted as she looked at a mirror that Uno gave her. She still had that faint scar over her right eye.

Jail nodded at that. "Cinque, I've been working on a new kind of eye patch for you." Blinking, the smallest Cyborg looked at him in confusion as Jail grabbed an eye patch. "It looks like your old one, except for the V on it."

Cinque's eyes misted up as Jail gave it to her. Hugging it, she smiled at him. "Thank you..."

Jail chuckled softly. "You should put it on." Cinque blinked and did just that. "Now, tap the V on the outside."

When Cinque did that, she gasped and looked around. "What in the world?"

"Like it?" Jail chuckled softly. "It still needs some work, but I was working on making you an eye patch so that you could see out of your bad eye."

"Don't listen to him." Uno grinned at Jail softly. "He was pretending to be a pirate for a week."

"Yarr!" Jail closed his right eye and held his right hand up in a fist, except for the index finger. "Don't be makin' fun of mah hobbies, ya sea farin' wench, or I'll make you walk the plank!"

The three of them started chuckling at that. "Still," Jail shook his head as he looked at Cinque, "come back every few days, I'll see about installing other stuff into it."

"Other... Stuff?" Cinque blinked and found it weird that her newly reformed eye wasn't bothered by the eye patch.

"Just some visual aids..." Jail grinned at her. "I do have to admit, getting that television programming was useful."

"You had me use my skills to get you information about eye patches and one-eye goggles and equipment." Uno rolled her eyes. "And then finding out about the 'Heart'..."

Jail grimaced at that. Finding out that the Heart had been damaged like it had. "Still, you did get the information from it."

Uno raised an eyebrow at him. "You think I couldn't draw out information from a damaged Intelligent Device? Please, it was easy to get the data that you wanted, though..." She looked at the purple gem that was was being built. "Are you certain a copy is what you want?"

Jail chuckled softly. "As long as you got the core data that it had for what I wanted, it's fine." Looking at the various other devices that his cyborgs had found for him, he grinned. "As soon as it's complete, that's one less problem to have to worry about."

"Doctor..." Cinque spoke up as she stood off the table. "What is that supposed to be? If it is supposed to fight against Mazoku, I wonder, did it do a good job before?"

Jail chuckled softly. "Against the Mazoku that destroyed Al Hazard, no..." His eyes went distant as he thought about the past of the person he was cloned from. "Against his army, however, it worked wonderfully."

Cinque nodded. "So, how strong was this... Garoth?"

"A Mazoku like that?" Jail shuddered visibly. "I don't know if even the legendary Book of Darkness could have stopped him. Such power... From what I can remember, it was almost as if he was re-writing the laws of reality on a whim."

Cinque shuddered. Beings that powerful.. How could they exist?

Nove had her hands behind her head as she walked with Deed down the hallway. "Hey, Deed..." The slightly taller cyborg looked at the redhead. "How come you, Otto and Sette don't really like Quattro?" Granted, Quattro was annoying at times, but so was Wendi and Otto, Deed and Sette didn't mind her at all.

"Something about her... Is offensive."

"I hope you don't mean her smell." Nove remarked, causing Deed to look at her funny. "Wendi and Sette both have good senses of smell, why do you think it's nearly impossible to hide from them when we're training in those jungle areas? Quattro's always the last one to be found out, and I know for a fact that you and Otto share some common traits with Wendi and Sette."

Deed nodded slowly. "Yes, it's easy for us to figure out who is who by smelling them, but... That is not it." She shook her head. "I do not know. Even if I cannot smell anything wrong with her, the air itself feels... Wrong around her, almost like it's not natural."

"I wouldn't know." Nove muttered as she continued to walk down the hallway. "I'm not like most of our siblings," she would have said sisters, but Nove really wasn't sure what Otto was, much to her annoyance. She and Wendi vowed that they'd grab Otto when the cyborg was still in the baths and pull Deed's twin out of the water to find out if Otto was a girl or a boy for sure.

Nove tried to not let it show, but compared to all of her siblings, except for Uno and possibly Quattro, she really felt insignificant. And the worst part was, neither of them were meant for direct combat like she was. Even Sein and Tre were more interesting than she was, at least in her opinion.

At least Tre offered to train with her whenever she felt the need to, which was quite often.

Tre didn't begrudge Nove for it, considering that Otto had displayed some unusual powers in training and Deed had developed something that was rather unusual.

One thing that Tre did like to see was Nove's developing strategies for defeating her siblings in combat.

"Has the doctor put the upgrades into your gun knuckle like you requested?" Deed asked and Nove actually smiled at that.

"The doctor said that he'd have it back to me in a couple of days." Nove moved her hands in front of her and rubbed them together. "Can't wait. Maybe next time I won't have a bruised leg when kicking Sette." That girl was monstrously strong enough, but apparently whatever tweaks Jail had done to her had left her a Juggernaut in every sense of the word.

Nove suddenly sweat-dropped at the thought of Sette going saying something along the lines of "you can't stop the Sette-naut." and then shuddered. That was the last thing that she wanted to hear, Sette cracking jokes.

Otto frowned at the results of that last attack. "...I do not think that this is enough."

Tre raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure?" That last Ray Storm Otto fired damn near broke the roof, and it was designed to take at least a S+ magic attack before any AMF was applied.

Otto nodded and concentrated. The androgynous cyborg's eyes closed as lightning seemed to crackle around the cyborg's body. Tre took a step back as lightning seemed to pool upwards from the feet, spinning around the boyish cyborg and kicking up winds that Tre didn't know was even there.

Suddenly, Otto's eyes snapped open and let out a soft whisper. "Nova Storm."

Creating a barrier and shielding her eyes, Tre gasped at the sheer amount of heat that was radiating off of her sibling's body. "Otto..." She chanced a look and gasped as the attack died off.

Otto was laying on her back, out cold.

The only reason Tre could tell Otto was a girl was rather simple.

That attack burned off all of Otto's clothing, leaving the boyish looking cyborg completely naked.

"...We're going to have to work on that attack." Tre remarked and took a step forward before blinking as there was a ruffling noise. Looking down, her face lit up as her clothing disintegrated a moment later. "...Otto, I swear, if you're related to Sein at all, I'll..." She shook her head and fell to her knees. "...What kind of attack is that, anyway?" She felt woozy and weak. The last thing she did before passing out was send a message to Uno and hoped that her older sister showed up to get her to the medical lab.

"Interesting." Jail murmured as he and Uno did several tests on Cinque's newly regenerated eye. "It seems to be working normally."

Cinque sat up on the examination table and rubbed her eyes. "I don't understand, doctor. My eye shouldn't have grown back in. Unless you gave me a regeneration program?" Jail shook his head. "...Then how?"

Jail shrugged, he wasn't sure how. "Well, it's a good thing that you have vision in both eyes again."

"I think it's a little terrifying." Cinque admitted as she looked at a mirror that Uno gave her. She still had that faint scar over her right eye.

Jail nodded at that. "Cinque, I've been working on a new kind of eye patch for you." Blinking, the smallest Cyborg looked at him in confusion as Jail grabbed an eye patch. "It looks like your old one, except for the V on it."

Cinque's eyes misted up as Jail gave it to her. Hugging it, she smiled at him. "Thank you..."

Jail chuckled softly. "You should put it on." Cinque blinked and did just that. "Now, tap the V on the outside."

When Cinque did that, she gasped and looked around. "What in the world?"

"Like it?" Jail chuckled softly. "It still needs some work, but I was working on making you an eye patch so that you could see out of your bad eye."

"Don't listen to him." Uno grinned at Jail softly. "He was pretending to be a pirate for a week."

"Yarr!" Jail closed his right eye and held his right hand up in a fist, except for the index finger. "Don't be makin' fun of mah hobbies, ya sea farin' wench, or I'll make you walk the plank!"

The three of them started chuckling at that. "Still," Jail shook his head as he looked at Cinque, "come back every few days, I'll see about installing other stuff into it."

"Other... Stuff?" Cinque blinked and found it weird that her newly reformed eye wasn't bothered by the eye patch.

"Just some visual aids..." Jail grinned at her. "I do have to admit, getting that television programming was useful."

"You had me use my skills to get you information about eye patches and one-eye goggles and equipment." Uno rolled her eyes. "And then finding out about the 'Heart'..."

Jail grimaced at that. Finding out that the Heart had been damaged like it had. "Still, you did get the information from it."

Uno raised an eyebrow at him. "You think I couldn't draw out information from a damaged Intelligent Device? Please, it was easy to get the data that you wanted, though..." She looked at the purple gem that was was being built. "Are you certain a copy is what you want?"

Jail chuckled softly. "As long as you got the core data that it had for what I wanted, it's fine." Looking at the various other devices that his cyborgs had found for him, he grinned. "As soon as it's complete, that's one less problem to have to worry about."

"Doctor..." Cinque spoke up as she stood off the table. "What is that supposed to be? If it is supposed to fight against Mazoku, I wonder, did it do a good job before?"

Jail chuckled softly. "Against the Mazoku that destroyed Al Hazard, no..." His eyes went distant as he thought about the past of the person he was cloned from. "Against his army, however, it worked wonderfully."

Cinque nodded. "So, how strong was this... Garoth?"

"A Mazoku like that?" Jail shuddered visibly. "I don't know if even the legendary Book of Darkness could have stopped him. Such power... From what I can remember, it was almost as if he was re-writing the laws of reality on a whim."

Cinque shuddered. Beings that powerful.. How could they exist?

Nove had her hands behind her head as she walked with Deed down the hallway. "Hey, Deed..." The slightly taller cyborg looked at the redhead. "How come you, Otto and Sette don't really like Quattro?" Granted, Quattro was annoying at times, but so was Wendi and Otto, Deed and Sette didn't mind her at all.

"Something about her... Is offensive."

"I hope you don't mean her smell." Nove remarked, causing Deed to look at her funny. "Wendi and Sette both have good senses of smell, why do you think it's nearly impossible to hide from them when we're training in those jungle areas? Quattro's always the last one to be found out, and I know for a fact that you and Otto share some common traits with Wendi and Sette."

Deed nodded slowly. "Yes, it's easy for us to figure out who is who by smelling them, but... That is not it." She shook her head. "I do not know. Even if I cannot smell anything wrong with her, the air itself feels... Wrong around her, almost like it's not natural."

"I wouldn't know." Nove muttered as she continued to walk down the hallway. "I'm not like most of our siblings," she would have said sisters, but Nove really wasn't sure what Otto was, much to her annoyance. She and Wendi vowed that they'd grab Otto when the cyborg was still in the baths and pull Deed's twin out of the water to find out if Otto was a girl or a boy for sure.

Nove tried to not let it show, but compared to all of her siblings, except for Uno and possibly Quattro, she really felt insignificant. And the worst part was, neither of them were meant for direct combat like she was. Even Sein and Tre were more interesting than she was, at least in her opinion.

At least Tre offered to train with her whenever she felt the need to, which was quite often.

Tre didn't begrudge Nove for it, considering that Otto had displayed some unusual powers in training and Deed had developed something that was rather unusual.

One thing that Tre did like to see was Nove's developing strategies for defeating her siblings in combat.

"Has the doctor put the upgrades into your gun knuckle like you requested?" Deed asked and Nove actually smiled at that.

"The doctor said that he'd have it back to me in a couple of days." Nove moved her hands in front of her and rubbed them together. "Can't wait. Maybe next time I won't have a bruised leg when kicking Sette." That girl was monstrously strong enough, but apparently whatever tweaks Jail had done to her had left her a Juggernaut in every sense of the word.

Nove suddenly sweat-dropped at the thought of Sette going saying something along the lines of "you can't stop the Sette-naut." and then shuddered. That was the last thing that she wanted to hear, Sette cracking jokes.

So uh, I got bored and decided to give Toredia Graze his first fic in as far as I know the history of evar, first person.

Originally I really wanted to write him as some dumb ass cliche of all of the government/establishment haters or anarchists that ever were, like a extra deranged turbo charged stupid Liquid Snake. I decided after rereading all of Sound Stage X that there were much better ways to deal with him, while keeping him completely unsympathetic. Or maybe I’m just going crazy, orz. Yes, no, you decide.

Last Journal Entry of Toredia Graze

It’s a simple story really: Some guy walks into the Doctor’s office. He wants a prescription, because deep in his heart, he believes that there’s something wrong with himself. The Doctor laughs and shakes his head, because he knows exactly what his patient needs, what every patient on the surface needs, what everyone in this little galaxy of theirs needs.

A good, honest, exciting festival.

It’s funny, isn’t it?

But the best part, really the most amazing part, is that no matter how many times history bears witness to it, no matter how many people fall for the entrance fee, none of the spectators ever find even the tiniest bit of satisfaction in any of it. It’s pointless. It’s obviously destructive. It’s actually bordering on maudlin, with the smallest violin being played on the side.

That’s always why sitting in your seat works for nothing. You have to be part of the festival to make it count.

Ixpellia is tiny. Barely even the size of Runessa when I first met her, certainly weighs a whole lot less. The injection isn’t too difficult, but I was told that she could take up to an hour to wake up. Plenty of time to collect myself, organize all of the thoughts in my mind.

The Dark King of Garea, The Bane of Life, the Unspoken Fierce Tyrant, the Bloody Handed General, is actually some random looking little kid stuck right in the middle of the mixed up garbage heap, abandoned and almost forgotten. If I hadn’t read so many of Dr. Scaglietti files on Ancient Belka, I might have thought it was actually rather pathetic. But I know much better now.

I’m thinking Ixy girl, what would you say if you could see all of these citizens in Mid-Childa, in Vaizen, across all of the administered worlds of the Time and Space Administrative Bureau? Good happy charitable people, who listen to their leaders, accepting everything they say, who have no time to spend on unhappy thoughts, feelings, or events, who can’t imagine war ever touching their secure insular lives, who think they’ll never feel the pang of hunger, or the slick feeling of blood on their hands, or that choking feeling in their throat when someone is erased?

I’m sure many historians would talk about how you would be displeased at the singular lack of death stalking the dimensional sea, and the absence of blood falling from the sky, and the howls of the condemned rising from all of the land, after all, who or what is left to contradict them?

But I know for certain what you would think, even for just a minute. You’d feel that you were once again in the old unified Belkan empire, before all of those oh so terrible events tore it into bones, fought over by scavengers who called themselves kings.

And I would bet everything I have that the people of Al-Hazard were the same all before their internecine wars turned them into less than dust.

People from all ages didn’t just forget to write down events as actually happened, they just wanted the simple, sanitized, superfluous story. “Look yon as Emperor Dahlgrun hence brought the savage Orussians to yoke!” Or “In the year 0069, a major skirmish was witnessed in Vikhorevka, Orussia, many casualties have been reported. In other news-” It says nothing about that nameless farmer who died on his back, crying about how he wanted to live. Nothing about that last fire trooper, who asked for a single cigarette to able to spend the last few seconds of her life inhaling the smoke she was obsessed with. Nothing about that one little girl who found a chance at life in the middle of death. And really, those wonderful charitable citizens don’t want to hear it either. Too much pain to bear. Better to keep things simple, keeps you from having to think a lot about it, dinner’s ready!

But I know better Ixpellia, I understand what you, and Olivie, and Claus all felt during your day. What all of the kings felt. You all knew best for your people. Unfortunately and all so sadly, everyone else was wrong, and every last one of you fought for the betterment of humanity, and you thought for so long about how unrighteous everyone else was. All of those royal councils were just giant echo chambers, without disagreement. And the poor, trusting spectators ate it all up, how could they ever mistrust the authority in their life? What’s one unknown dead person or a couple worlds of them if it means “peace”? Fast forward a couple of centuries, and there’s a disconnect in generations. People don’t want to look at the past, don’t want to think about what their counterparts once had in mind, didn’t want anything more to do with anything like a war, just so long as it was far, far away from themselves. And at the end of it all, the kings discovered the chains of conflict they had wrought for themselves, trapped in their own little loop, all alone, unable to escape. Olivie tried to break them, Claus tried to fight them, you tried to run from them. Of course you would run, how could you ever stand up for your own position when you’ve never had to think about anything other than following what others asked of you? A strong king, who like all of the others, was really just so weak in the backbone until the very end. No historian will ever talk about that, such is the legacy that they can only see.

But you never thought about what would happen after you ran. And you’re here now, at the beginning of a whole new age. People will bear witness whether they wish for it, or not. They’ve forgotten what the truth was about pain, but the truth itself will never go away, no matter how much it is wished for. There will always be people like me, agents of destiny to throw history back into the double helix. The people who survive will remember this, every single bit of it.

She’s awakening now. Time to prepare the festival

….and no, I’ve never seen Toredia as sympathetic, and this is certainly not meant to be either. Thoughts, opinions, expressions?
