I don't think this has been posted before in this topic, so for those who are curious, here are the Top 10 Ratings that Animated Programs have earned between the time period of September 26, 1977 - March 31, 2002:
39.9% 10/28/1990 (Sun) *6:00pm-*6:30pm Fuji TV Chibi Maruko-chan (1st Series) 39.4% 09/16/1979 (Sun) *6:30pm-*7:00pm Fuji TV Sazae-san 36.9% 12/16/1981 (Wed) *7:00pm-*7:30pm Fuji TV Dr. Slump (1st Series) 34.5% 02/23/1979 (Fri) *6:00pm-*6:30pm NTV Dokonjo Gaeru 33.6% 01/10/1981 (Sat) *7:00pm-*7:30pm TBS Manga Nihon Mukashi Banashi (2nd Series) 32.5% 12/08/1978 (Fri) *6:00pm-*6:30pm NTV Lupin The Third (2nd Series) 31.9% 12/22/1985 (Sun) *7:00pm-*7:30pm Fuji TV Touch 31.6% 03/13/1980 (Thu) *6:00pm-*6:30pm NTV Ashita no Joe (2nd Series) [aka Tomorrow's Joe] 31.2% 02/11/1983 (Fri) *7:00pm-*7:30pm TV Asahi Doraemon 29.6% 03/22/1986 (Sat) *6:30pm-*7:00pm Fuji TV Gegege no Kitarou (3rd Series) There were some shows listed on here that had multiple television series, so I have indicated which series the list is referring to. For example, Gegege no Kitarou has had five different television series produced (excluding Hakaba Kitarou). The one that aired at the date indicated is the 3rd series, which I noted in parenthesis. I did the same with the other shows like Lupin The Third. The only show I didn't do this with was Dokonjo Gaeru. This is because its airdate does not match either of the two television series. However, I assume that it's the first series on reruns, because the second series did not premiere until 1981. If I made any mistake, mention it and I'll make the correction. I was curious about ratings for Chi's Sweet Home (TV Tokyo), but perhaps it doesn't get reported since it's only three minutes long? Such a cute, funny, and charming show ought to be attracting viewers from Japan's cat-owning population if no one else.
I'll take a look at the next Videor report when it's released.

I've been waiting for Soul Eater ratings too, but it just seems they're not given anywhere... It makes sense since the timeslot wasn't covered back when TMNT was airing, though I'd definitely like a change.
A few thoughts regarding the ratings for the beginning of this season: - Ouch, Nichigo. Doing worse than Holic... I wonder if they're even considering putting Gundam 00 back on Doroku since it was a fair opponent to Major. If that's not an option, here's hoping G00 can give Nichigo some kind of boost, because Geass apparently won't do it. - Toshokan Sensou... I was somewhat expecting some not-so-great ratings, since Siegel Clyne once posted details regarding the audience for Hakaba Kitarou and it was mostly male watchers... the audience that isn't likely to stay for Toshokan Sensou. Whatever happened to the timeslot for josei?

I'm a bit surprised that ToloveRu is getting pretty good ratings for it's timeslot that it's at guess the manga readers are willing to stay up late to watch the anime, also great to see Macross ratings improved in it's 2nd week.

Interesting Geass numbers, Like 00 the M1 layer is by far the highest. Is that a good rundown of average otaku audience? Cause no one else really seems to be watching.
I wonder if most of MBS' hyped anime did better in Osaka then in Tokyo. As for the previous posters notice about the anime ratings being domninated by kiddie shows, keep this in mind Anime while more popular in Japan then America with general audience is still a bit of a stepson in terms of audience popularity compared to other tv shows. Most shows that rate highly are based off HIGHLY popular manga (that many normal non otaku or fan people read) and are family friendly/oriented or kid based. A vast number of anime made is really made for niche audiences nowadays, and most likely about 75-90% of anime seen by foriegn anime fans are niche works (and probably were made to be). Think about superhero comics' popularity in America for an example. A steady industry but a rather niche one/small audience in compared to the wide world of entertainment. |
