Hmm, Sailormoon captivated a nice number of people. Including me, of course.
Now all we need to do is re-animate it and...add decent amount of fanservice (if fanservice is any much decent at all ![]() I'm crazy ![]() ![]() |

The Sailor senshi wear 4 inch skirts and are naked every time they henshin. More fanservice of that sort is not needed, as it doesn't actually improve anything. Get yourself a 3D girlfriend and spare the rest of us trashiness.
Nurse Angel Ririka is my favorite magical girl anime (out of the 5 I've seen) and it didn't even place. Darn it. Oh well, I guess Sailor Moon was a no contest winner and I'm not surprised Cardcaptor Sakura placed high as well, but I have no idea why Magic Knight Rayearth is on there. I'm never touching that anime again with a 10 foot pole.

I'm not a big fan of the mahou shoujo genre, but I've always liked Magic Knight Rayearth. The ending is great, one of the best for an anime series. I've never see the second, though I have read the manga. I'm actually a bit suprised it didn't do better.

Geez, Sailormoon is like the GSEED/GSD of the mahou shoujo genre. >.>
I'm quite surprised that Card Captor Sakura isn't higher ranked. And I at least wanted to see Mahou Shoujo Pretty Sammy up there somewhere. >.>

Sailormoon was the first of the mahou-shoujo genre to set the five team of magic girls, much to the style of the Tokusatsu Sentai shows.
It wasn't the first one to also include the fast action pacing, since it was long introduced in the first Cutey Honey anime back in the 70's. What Sailormoon simply did was revitalizing and giving a refresh launch to the mahou-shoujo genre, which was faltering during the late 80's in Japan. It comes to some dissapointment that Princess Tutu never made it at least to the 10th place of the list. Though I like Sailor Moon, my favorite pick among magic-girl anime is Pretear. |

![]() ![]() ![]() Now, what I'm wondering is how do they treat the series of before to the current series of today. Alot of titles are repeated there....which also makes me ask, are there really that much Mahou shoujo series? Surely there are lots... ![]() |

Sakura Kinomoto from Cardcaptor Sakura is my favorite Magical Girl. I'm kinda disappointed she's not ranked higher, but at least she's among the top 10.
Kerberos who accompanies her around also deserves honorable mention as one of the cutest pet I've ever seen. |

Oh, come on, how did Full Moon and Princess Tutu not get on this? I think there should have been a category for "Best Magical Girl Show in the Last Ten Years." I mean, I, too, love the old school stuff, but we have to make room for some of the good, new stuff.

I'm kind of appalled that Cutey Honey scored so well with females
![]() Of course, the data is kind of limited .... that 400 people surveyed may have had 4 females in it.... and of course, we're talking about 400 people who were at a convention, not exactly a random sampling. I've taken a lot more jaundiced view towards polls and surveys these days.

1) Equalish number of females and males. 2) The males were far more divided than the smaller female segment. This is evident from how there are female choices that beat male choices in the overall. #1 is far more likely than #2 and based on how there is basically alternation, is probably the case. And it is very clear that mostly (read: only) males (read: otaku) watch Nanoha. Also, if I understood it right (And remember right), this survey was conducted through a non-anime survey group (and was done through a non-anime magazine.?) This is probably more representative of the Japanese population than the otaku population. |

Actually, I'm kinda surprised the respondents, who are in the teens and twenties, have watched Sailormoon and Cutey Honey. From what I know, Cutey Honey was screened almost ten years ago and Sailormoon about twelve years ago.
It would be understandable if the respondents are fans of the magical girl genre, but for a normal anime teenage fan to remember an anime that he watched when he was five or six and to vote it as "Best Magical Girl Show" just boggles my mind. Perhaps there had been lots of reruns of classic animes in Japan. |
