Jiyuu, that's Peggy Sue - Shinkirou no Kuni e Tobu (aka Peggy Sue and the Ghosts - the Dreams of Demons), to be directed by Mamoru Hosoda (TokiKake) based on a French kid's book. I don't really know anything about the book or the project; I know that Mahiro Maeda was going to direct it for a while after Hosoda dropped out but he's now apparently back on board, although he's got some kind of upcoming film project with Madhouse as well so who knows what the man is up to?
thanks! this helps alot :D
although he's got some kind of upcoming film project with Madhouse as well so who knows what the man is up to?
When I read that he started work with Madhouse on a new one I was wondering wtf happened to Peggy Sue :(
I think the project has been cancelled (for now ?).

Dengeki Bunko's and Dengeki Bunko Magazine's mail magazine: Dengeki bootleg (http://www.mediaworks.co.jp/users_s/d_hp/i/kyuto.html) is hinting at a new adaptation >.<

This might turn out to be an April Fools joke, so don't take this seriously for now :P

The MMORPG Fantasy Earth: Zero (ファンタジーアース ゼロ) will be getting an anime adaptation:

Wiki entry for the game:

This is an April Fool almost certainly. The link and unprofessional nature of the website is the biggest clue - there's also no such thing as the "okome anime channel" (which is some kind of joke to Fantasy Earth players I believe).
I know you like to post things as soon as they go on Moonphase, but for today can you make DOUBLY sure they're accurate? Even Moonphase (or μoonphase, as it's named today) makes it very obvious that everything should be taken with a pinch of salt for the next 24 hours.

I see, then I'll be removing this. though somehow I was thinking this might be an April Fool's joke, the link announcing the anime has two Aprils in it :heh:
Then any new anime announced this day will be added with "a possible April Fools Joke" note :P
And here's another most likely April Fools joke:
The Triggerheart Exelica (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trigger_Heart_Exelica) game will be getting animated:
http://www.warashi.co.jp/exelica/
Broadcast starts on August 1, 2008.
Yeah right announcing the anime on April 1st, and the anime already has a specific broadcast date :heh:
but the site looks pretty legit :X if this is a hoax someone wen to great lengths to make it seem real XD
but the site looks pretty legit :X if this is a hoax someone wen to great lengths to make it seem real XD
Yeah, but an anime gets announced on April 1st with a specific broadcast date already scheduled :heh: that doesn't happen with real anime adaptations that get announced on other days. With real anime adaptations, the broadcast schedule is not always mentioned, and if it is mentioned, its either the year of the broadcast is mentioned or the season of broadcast or the month of the broadcast, but not as specific as August 1st :heh:
oh well, too bad.. seemed kinda interesting..
hope it would at least come out as true that the anime is being produced and that only the date is a hoax :P

None of the April Fool jokes like the Fantasy Earth: Zero anime and the Triggerheart Exelica anime are mentioned on MoonPhase's anime list.
Rosario to Vampire Capu2 (temporary title) is mentioned on MoonPhase's anime list.
This is why I didn't mention it as a possible April Fools joke.

Seems like it's going to be in two 90-minute parts... and honestly I wouldn't have even known about the M of Mushrambo if it wasn't for the fact that the compilation is being overseen by Kenji Nakamura, the director of Mononoke.
I guess it's the Toei connection, but here I was hoping to see something directly directed by him... oh well :)

Japanese voice actress (seiyuu) Ueda Kana is earning for a reputation for not only playing bitches in Japanese animation (anime), but for being a bitch in real life.
According to a Yahoo! JAPAN News article (via J-CAST News) dated December 15, 2008, 16:15 (4:15 PM) Japan Time, (http://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20081215-00000001-jct-ent) after a continuing and mounting barrage of criticism on the Internet and elsewhere for her comments about her "I want to eliminate from society" a middle-aged man whom she complained about being a nuisance aboard the train she was riding on the December 7, 2008 broadcast of the radio talk show she co-hosts with fellow voice actress Shimizu Kaori, Ueda was forced to apologize for what she said on the December 14, 2008 broadcast of their radio talk show.
Citing her "bouyomi" (literally, "stick reading"; "monotone reading") delivery, many listeners feel that Ueda's "apology" was half-baked and insincere, that she was making excuses for her speech and conduct in her explanation, and that she is a liar and cannot be trusted - her so-called apology, changing her story of the train incident (e.g., making the man sound much worse than she initially had*), etc.
*Ueda first only complained about the man littering trash on the train floor. After being bombarded by criticism, she said that the man was drunk and being verbally abusive.
As of the date and time of the news article, the storm of criticism over Ueda Kana continues brewing and unabated.
In addition to her "I wish to erase the oyaji from society" remark, Ueda Kana has been strongly criticized by many for concocting false charges of the man being a molester (chikan).

The Shoujo Sect OVA series will be 3 episodes long.
Erica from the Yuri blog posted a bigger version of the announcement ad:
http://okazu.blogspot.com/2008/04/yuri-news-shoujo-sect-anime.html#links
Hmmm, from the looks of the ad and taking the katakana characters very literally, the animation is going to be done by "Amarukorudo". Who the heck are these guys? And where the heck are my legion of yuri fans?!! I expected more response here, dammit! :heh:

Sorry for lack of an announcement in my post, but... is there somewhere I could see every announced anime in an overview? If not, wouldn't that be a swell idea for a topic (or this topic's first post). ;p

I think its a good idea, something like MoonPhase's anime list (http://www.moonphase.cc/Html/anime.html) (but only for new upcoming anime).
Its going to be a lot of trouble at first >.> but I think I'll make a list for upcoming anime, and add it to the first post. A month after the broadcast of the first episode of any anime, the anime will be removed from the list (something like that).
Anyway, I'll have to ask an admin first about this.
Ok, the idea has been accepted :) I'll prepare an upcoming anime list soon...

The video game company Sega (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega) has announced a new role playing game that's titled: World Destruction, along with the release of the game there will also be an anime that will start broadcast in July 2008.
More news about the game:
From ds fanboy (http://www.dsfanboy.com/2008/04/23/sega-destroys-the-world-with-new-rpg/):
Sega destroys the world with new RPG
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not to be outdone by The World Ends With You, Sega has announced its own apocalypse-impending RPG in the latest issue of Famitsu, World Destruction. With Masato Kato, Yasunori Mitsuda, and Kunihiko Tanaka managing the game's script, music, and character design, Image Epoch (Luminous Arc) is also working on the production, clearing up at least one of the developer's three mystery projects listed on its company site.
World Destruction will be a traditional RPG with turn-based combat and giant bosses filling up both of the system's screens. Following Blue Dragon and Inazuma Eleven's example, Sega will accompany the game's summer release with an anime starting July. Turn your Bible to the Book of Revelation and head past the post break for a glimpse at two of World Destruction's characters.
Ahh this is Sega's site for the World Destruction game: (though it currently has nothing on it)

Some more anime news
The May 9 issue (released on April 25) of Weekly Famitsu magazine has announced that Sega is launching a World Destruction role-playing game for the Nintendo DS console, and the game developer is planning to start manga and anime spinoffs in July. The game staff features several staffers of the acclaimed Xenogears title, including scenario writer Masato Kato (Chono Trigger, Final Fantasy VII), character designer Kunihiko Tanaka (Xenosaga Episode I, Key the Metal Idol, Ruin Explorers manga), and sound supervisor Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Mario Party, Xenosaga). The game centers on a youth named Kirie Irunisu who secretly possesses the power to destroy the world. He is forced to join a party that aims not to save the world, but to eradicate it and start anew.
Production I.G will produce the anime version with director Shunsuke Tada (The Prince of Tennis: The National Tournament, Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations). Masahiro Yokotani (Reideen) will supervise and co-write the scripts, and Keita Matsumoto (Blood+, XXXHOLiC key animation) will adapt the Tanaka's character designs. Yoshihiro Ike (Blood: The Last Vampire, Karas, Flag) will compose the music. Maaya Sakamoto (Escaflowne, Tsubasa) will voice the main heroine Morute Āshera, and Mamoru Miyano (Death Note, Gundam 00) and Yu Kobayashi (Negima!, School Rumble) will play her party members Kirie and Ri A, respectively. (Morute will play a bigger role in the anime version.) Hiroyuki Yoshino (Blood+, Gundam 00) and Daisuke Ono (Air, Shina Dark) round out the cast as Agan Mādoru and Naja Gurefu, respectively. Ahh, the staff info for the Kurozuka anime isn't mentioned yet. Nothing is mentioned about who's going to handle the anime production, and no seiyū cast is mentioned yet.

The official Japanese website for Hiroyuki Asada’s fantasy manga series Tegami Bachi ~ Letter Bee (http://www.tegamibachi.com/) has announced that the story will be adapted into a short anime film that will screen in ten Japanese cities this fall as part of this year’s Jump Super Anime Tour promotional event. Hi ,
this is my first post =)
---
The Nico Nico Douga video-streaming website has posted the first 14-minute episode in the follow-up series to last November's Candy Boy original net anime. (The website's Nico Nico Anime Channel requires free registration in Japanese, but the service otherwise has no territorial restrictions.) The anime is a "nonchalant talk of the certain twin sisters in daily life," or the slice-of-life story of Kanade and Yukino Sakurai. Happy Lesson director Takafumi Hoshikawa, character designer Tatari Habe, and the studio AIC began the project with a free ten-minute video, which is still available on Nico Nico Douga also.

It's basically a Slayers then Nodame one-two punch from JC Staff.
I just hope there aren't so many badly animated episodes in the second Nodame season as there were in the first. Actually, I hope Slayers doesn't get that treatment too.

Thank god they're doing this as an adult OVA, I would've been really sad if they'd treated it like most other "adult" things and taken out most of the content. Hell, there's not enough yuri to begin with anyway, so this is superb!!!
BTW, if you want to, you can pre-order the set from amazon.co.jp if you're willing to fork over 6400 Yen + shipping (7100 if you want the T-Shirt and the 2 extra CD's) and those are the sale prices... >_<
Just the DVD (http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E5%B0%91%E5%A5%B3%E3%82%BB%E3%82%AF%E3%83%881-%E9%80%9A%E5%B8%B8%E7%89%88-%E8%81%96%E6%9C%88/dp/B0018FAMJA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1210486161&sr=1-1)

Apparently there's a new Gainax anime in the works, apparently scheduled to start broadcasting come this fall. No real information other than a date was given. Information came from Giapet.net's write up about Gainax's panel (http://giapet.net/2008/05/23/fanime08-this-is-gainaaax-or-awesomest-jacket-ever/):
We have just been informed that Gainax is an animation company. Wow…(I guess it’s ’cause Fanime named the panel “What is Gainax? A Day In The Life Of Gainax.”) Speaking of a day in the life– typically, they just…produce animation…every day. Currently they’re working on a fall TV anime that goes untitled, as well as the Gurren Lagann movie.
There's another project in the works that was given more information about, but the series is still tentative and may not happen in the end. Here's the information regarding this project (not the same as the one mentioned above):
The next question is about the new unnamed project: the guy wants to know if Yamaga’s trip to England was for research– maybe for setting? –or if the series actually involves foreign companies. Yamaga says that the new project he’s working on with Takeda is completely separate from the England-related project. However, the England-related project isn’t set in England, but to give a glimpse of the new project: there’s a character who is a rock musician from England, and who went to England to figure out where his hometown would be. Akai says that when talking about the project they talk about how it’d be nice if they could go to England to get a clearer picture, but “just for that, we can’t go to England, can we?” and Yamaga said “no, let’s go!” and went. Yamaga says that the other new project alsod involve a “research” trip to Egypt, to Akai’s surprise. Yamaga says that it’s because a particular sport is involved in the show and that sport has an event happens in Egypt involving this sport. They won’t tell us what sport, but…England? Egypt? I’m thinkin’ soccer. Anyone else care to speculate?
The one scheduled for fall could be Shikabane Hime since moonphase rumored Gainax might be involved in the production.

From Dynasty Scans group:
A high schooler named Taisuke Kanou is living with his older sister, Youko, after the death of his parents. He lives a relatively quiet life until a massive surge of suicides around the world known as the "Nightmare Week" begins.
From that moment on, weird phenomena begin to occur around Taisuke. He is victim of space travelling illusions. He sees a smiling girl who jumps to her death from atop a building. His best friend, Hirose, is framed for murder. His classmates are killing themselves for no apparent reason. Furthermore, the police always seem to keep an eye on Taisuke while investigating Hirose's case. At the same time, a psychotic murderer appears, and he sees our protagonist as his "comrade". Will Taisuke succumb to all of these crazy incidents? Or will he be able to someday return to his old peaceful lifestyle that he yearns for?

Since the star studded cast for the Sony PlayStation 2 game version was announced over three and a half months ago, I had been expecting an announcement of an Akaneiro ni Somarusaka anime to be made.
See my posts here and at Anime News Network: A couple of KimiKiss seiyuu cast in Akaneiro ni Somarusaka Parallel; (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=1368674&postcount=1829) Trend for Anime Adaptations of Ero-Games Continues; (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=51471&start=15#534743) and...
Re: Trend for Anime Adaptations of Ero-Games Continues (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=51471&start=15#534996)
No anime version has been announced yet.
Because feng/GoodNavigate apparently made the effort to assemble an all-star seiyuu cast for the PS2 game, a number of fans in Japan believe that Akaneiro ni Somarusaka Parallel will be made into an anime, featuring the same seven voice actresses playing the same seven heroines.
And they were right.
Since I wrote those posts over three and a half months ago, they have added four more characters and their voice actors to the game.

Some info about Kyo no Gononi (Today in Class 5-2), from Manganews (http://manganews.net/seriesinfo.php?id=1253):
This one-volume manga by Sakuraba Koharu portrays the fifth grade in a... different light. The chapters ran in Young Magazine, a relatively small publication, and were then released in volume form, when it gained some cult following.
What makes this manga particularly unique is not it's characters, which represent fairly run-of-the-mill manga personalities like those found in FLCL, Azumanga, and even Sister Princess--which should give you a pretty good idea of what does make this manga interesting: the perfect blend of school humor, plain ridiculousness, and raging sexual innuendo.
Ah, fifth grade like you wish you remembered it!

I'm not sure if I even want to watch Umineko no Naku Koro ni, versus waiting for the arcs to be translated. Because I know after playing a little bit of Higurashi, I had wished I didn't know all the answers already.
Bumped the BL thread in light of this announcement, can't wait for more Two Hands action :D
Class 5-2 as a TV series? How is that going to work? It was only one volume, and the OVA covered most of it up to the finale. Is this going to be another Okawari?
Oh well, as long as they don't screw up Aihara, I'll give it a chance...
