And, since someone might ask, the game's by PrincessSoft (http://www.oaks-soft.co.jp/princess-soft/lovely/), even though "-New Lyrics-" is being handled by Navel.

I think it looks okay. But I guess it's just a matter of preference. I don't really like the current moe-moe designs. :uhoh:
Whatever happened to that mecha one who is designed by CLAMP? The name is too hard to remember.

And more about Soukou no Strain:
Its Studio Fantasia's "SF bishoujo mecha action" anime.
From AnimeNfo (http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3809,pdogfr,soko_no_strain.html):
In the distant future, the mankind is divided into two powers; Union and Deague. They have continued long war that no one is sure when it began. Union uses manned weapons, Strain, as the main military power, while Deague uses unmmand weapons Tumoru.
Sara Viereck, a daughter of a good family, is a Union’s 16-year-old girl who goes to Grapera Space Armed Soldier Academy locates in Cranial Solar System in order to become a full-fledged Reasoner (a pilot of Strain).
Her brother, Ralph Viereck, was sent to the front line 130 light years away to accomplish a special mission when she was 11 years old. It takes 400 years of objective time even by the fastest sub-light speed space craft of Union. However, according to relativist theory, it corresponds to two subjective years (the time crews experiences). Therefore, Sara needs to go to the same battle field to meet her brother.
Because they lost their parents when they were quite young, Sara thinks of her bother as a guy dearer than a sibling, and she lives for their reunion.
One day, the planet Sara lives is suddenly assaulted by Deague. Surprisingly, it was her brother Ralph that takes away a mysterious girl sleeping in a capsule.
To search the truth, Sara gets in Strain and runs after him. However, she receives an attack from Ralph, and the Mimic is broken. The Mimic is a copy of the pilot’s brain, and it is an essential part to control the Strain.

Heh, when Kekkaishi (which also runs in Shonen Sunday magazine) got announced as an anime last week, I was a bit dissapointed - because I would have prefered Kenichi to become an anime first. Ah well :) I like the series a lot, but it starts a bit slowly - ie it gets increasingly better over time, I feel.
I guess Kekkaishi and Kenichi will be replacing the time slots currently being used by MAR and Major (series 2).

Yes! Perfect Girl Evolution got officially announced. :D I've known of plans for an anime for it for a some time, but it's nice to be sure about it.
Its wacky atmosphere reminds me of Ouran. I hope they manage to pull of the manga --> anime conversion as well as Bones did for Ouran. And Sunako, the morbid main character, is the best! She's far from your "typical shoujo heroine".
And it's coming out in October! I have many series to look forward to this fall...

Ah!... Yeah!... Alright!... Perfect Girl Evolution finally going to be here! The manga really great. One of my favorite manga.

Wow...they announced The Wallflower?
/me wonders if fansubbers who will pick this up will use the above name, or use Perfect Girl Evolution
Now that this one gets announced, perhaps there is hope for a Hana-Kimi anime after all; I mean, Hana-Kimi got a Taiwanese TV adaptation...*crosses fingers*
Oh my god, a Perfect Girl Evolution ("The Wallflower" in US bookstores) anime!!! I'm so happy!!! :D
That manga is HILARIOUS. But the art and pacing isn't very good, so it's one of the few cases in which the anime will probably be much better than the manga. I'm hoping for insane humor and good animation (like Ouran High). :D Yay for more shoujo comedies.
I've also heard rumors of a Hana-Kimi anime... I hope they're true, since it's my favorite shoujo manga...
The Wallflower? I just read that. :eyespin: I didn't like it too much though. Why was Sunako drawn in that form all the time when she can be beautiful like the guys? :(

Himawari! 2 looks totally badass now, I agree. I wonder what happened with Mendoi and what's taking them so long, but I can wait. Himawari was only 13 episodes, after all, but from the looks of it, it's either the second season would be more of a joke, or would totally stop being fluffy at all.

The original writer (Sunao Yoshida, Trinity Blood dude) died before the TV series really got going; he was one of the selling points of the Bushilord franchise.
All the merchandise has been and gone, someone else is writing light novels for it now but I think the Bushilord zeitgeist has long passed.

A trailer of Innocent Venus is up on their website (http://www.innocent-v.com/) now. ( more info about the show in Neosam's post here (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=563331&postcount=369) )
The trailer isn't great quality but I like the look of it, though I only watch one episode of Kamichu the animation was great! hoping that it will hold up well here.
Wonder when someone will start a thread up..
Everything is telling me Gainax's new show will suck.
And I think it probably will (especially the story... and there will be lots of cheese, I can almost smell it, even though it should be too early to comment)....
...with the exception of the animation. Since it's directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi.
If I remember correctly he also directed I.G.'s shocking little OVA, Dead Leaves which was the result of a commission I.G. received from Manga. Needless to say Manga completely didn't expect to be presented with something like that. Same thing - on the surface, it looks like a ridiculously cheesy overly-stylised crass pop-art piece of toilet-humour inspired junk... But it delivers in the animation. And it's just meant to be a whole lot of unrestrained fun where everyone just lets loose and lets things go whacko once in a while.
Some people downright hate this stuff. But some people enjoy this more than typical anime stories - why bog down a film with a pretentious story?
I wouldn't count myself as part of the latter entirely (though I think the Blood film, despite having no story, is very much better than Blood+)
Anyway, I think we can expect the good animators from Gunbuster 2 and such to participate in this and have a lot more stylised action... but I dont' even know if the animation is enough to make me want to watch it. The designs aren't, well, HORRID in terms of style, but the content....
i wonder when will a new shounen ai be anounced..
i really need one now that Gakuen Heaven ended and what a horrible show it was anyway. :/
Gunbuster2 = good animation, boring story

Concerning what's really new and interesting :
- Shingo Araki would be more implicated in these OVAs than the previous.
- the TV diffusion would begin at the end of the year (as usual).
- apparently, compared to Hades ~ Inferno part 1 and Hades ~ Sanctuary, the delay between the beginning of pre-production and first TV diffusion is a month longer this time. That would be due partially to a more present Araki.
I can't believe to see such a great pic after so long... Amazing Aioros in the middle, Saga & Dohko as well... GOLD SAINT RULES ^_^ Let's hope it will help to obtain a better result than last time.

Manga Announcements from San Diego Comic Con
At the recent San Diego Comic Con, Manga Entertainment announced that it is co-producing a new anime series with Studio APPP (Honey & Clover, Risky Safety). The new anime is described as a sci-fi adventure set in fedual Japan and featuring a large female cast surrounding one male protagonist.
Well, they didn't have to have that big description.
My version of the description (more to the point): "The new anime is described as a harem sci-fi adventure set in fedual Japan".
Now thats more correct and to the point :p

"harem sci-fi adventure set in fedual Japan".
I like harem, I like sci-fi, and I like historical settings. I don't like the feeling that the series concept came from looking at what's popular, then throwing it all into a blender without regard to how they would work together, and that's exactly what I'm getting here... Well, I'll still probably end up watching it... :heh:

So, Nippon Animation is producing the anime Les Misérables - Shoujo Cosette, based on the book Les Misérables by Victor Hugo. It will have 52 episodes.
http://img478.imageshack.us/img478/2459/1153834608cosettenf2.jpg
A little about the book:
Les Misérables is set in the Parisian underworld. The protagonist, Jean Valjean, is sentenced to prison for 19 years for stealing a loaf of bread. After his release, Valjean plans to rob monseigneur Myriel, a saintlike bishop, but cancels his plan. However, he forfeits his parole by committing a minor crime, and for this crime Valjean is haunted by the police inspector Javert. Valjean eventually reforms and becomes under the name of M. Madeleine a successful businessman, benefactor and mayor of a northern town. To save an innocent man, Valjean gives himself up and is imprisoned in Toulon. He escapes and adopts Cosette, an illegitimate child of a poor woman, Fantine. Cosette grows up and falls in love with Marius, who is wounded during a revolutionary fight. Valjean rescues Marius by means of a flight through the sewers of Paris. Cosette and Marius marries and Valjean reveals his past.

The character designs are extremely similar to that of the Nishimata Aoi manga, and casting is comprised of top notch seiyuu, including a reunion from Magikano (Nogawa Sakura/Nakahara Mai/Sakai Kanako) and Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu (Gotou Yuuko/Chihara Minori).
Could turn out to be another Lemon Angel Project, but the characters look pretty good. Along with Kanon, Otoboku, happiness, Tokimemo, and Gift, looks like the autumn season will be packed with moe bishoujo anime.

So, Nippon Animation is producing the anime Les Misérables - Shoujo Cosette, based on the book Les Misérables by Victor Hugo. It will have 52 episodes.
.....*rubs eyes*
Orgasmic. With 52 episodes, it has the potential to be like...one of the best. Ever.
Any news on the release period? Or release year?

A little about the book:
After butchering Le comte de Montecristo, de Alexandre Dumas now they are going to butcher Les Miserables, de Victor Hugo. God i wish they would let those masterpiece alone and not revise them to match the taste of japanese audience. i still feel hate toward Gankutsuou for the LAME adaptation they did...
For the sake of every writers alive of dead STAY AWAY FROM THEIR MASTER PIECE.
I might be wrong, they might actually respect the story in every aspect but i sincerly doubt.

I've always thought that Les Miserables is one of the finer masterpiece to be adapted into animation/movie/media/whatever. It has a unique simplicity that makes it easy to convey the story and the characters in fine layers, unlike a flop adapted from one of the hardest-to-adapt literatures called Earthsea.
Though the title, Shoujo Cossete does make me VERY wary of the series's central figurehead. To me at least, what makes Les Miserables so appealing behind it's wonderfully crafted characters and themes is the character of Jean Valjean himself.

I can easely understand why one can want to see Les Miserable adapted into an anime or a movie, but i sincerly think that book can never be outmatch by any adaptation.
I have yet to see a movie a serie or an anime that is better than the orignal book.

Does it have to? If it's good, it's good, if it's bad, it's bad. Isn't that all that matters?

Well i in a way do care, since Les Miserable is one of the best book and i love Readingm awsome story, excellent writting quality, and also because i m french therefore i m in a way thinking that this story belong to us (french peeps) it s like our heritage (very subjective).
Let s face it Le Comte de Montecristo is a story about hatred and a harsh vengeance, they dumb it down in gankutsuou. Les Miserables is also a hard story therefore i m very worried at how they will soften some part.
I have enought years of anime experience to know that they will probably dumb down the show. Like i say i might be wrong, we need to wait and see.
I d rather have them write some new innovative story rather than adapting litterature stories and detorriating them. We only get the same kind of story everytime (cliche archetype etc etc) or adaptation of old litterature novels
Sorry when it comes to litterature i m very picky :x

About the anime Les Misérables, there isn't a release date yet and the story will focus on Cosette, not on Jean Valjean, that's why the name is Les Misérable - Shoujo Cosette.

Any anime based on a literary classic will either be incredibly great or fail like birdcrap. It's got too many expectations riding on it to be able to satisfy them all--and if it does, that's a hell of an achievement.
I think Mssr. Damien is taking this a bit too seriously, but on the other hand, he has a point, since this is something that might be a bit difficult to translate into visuals properly without going too far on one end of bad to the other. That said, I think we should do the sane, sensible thing and wait until the actual product is released. No point in making gross observations on a title and promo poster.

From AnimeNfo (http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3805,wgoovd,hanoka.html):
This anime is the first full-fledged TV anime made with FLASH.
The story takes place on a planet Tokinea where human beings and Star Races have been fighting. The story revolves around a girl who was made as “Demon God”, an ultimate weapon against human beings, and a boy who is a partner of the girl.
Genre: Sci-fi

But the color scheme and design of the poster and subject matter doesn't jive with it being a "kids" title imo. Maybe the target is late teens to adult with the focus on Cossette to keep the male audience interested and attract some female viewers.
It doesn't appear like a straight-out kids title - or rather, kids titles as they are nowadays. It reminds me a little bit of the old World Masterpiece Animation series that Nippon Animation used to do... is this their attempt to revive it?
The fact that it's 52 episodes makes me strongly doubt that it's going to be al ate night anime. Please, the last thing I want is for it to become moe-fied... though I'm not saying non-latenight anime don't get the same treatment. I do wish there was a slightly larger version of the linked picture (http://img478.imageshack.us/img478/2459/1153834608cosettenf2.jpg) though...

i think there would have to be enough chapters of neuro for it to hit anime status but then again that contradicts d,grey-man so hmm yeah
Reborn should be a really fun anime. The manga was very enjoyable, and joining Death Note and D.Gray-Man (along with the continuing Bleach) make it an incredible season for shounen anime for me.

Or a show about a poor, beaten-down bar tender who one day dreams of being Japan's greatest bartender, and the show will chronicle his drink brewing adventures as he meets and defeats other rivals for the title of "greatest bar tender in Japan!"
Just kidding.
But seriously, I would guess this show would either be a Planetes-style slice of life show or a Yakitate-esque, "I-want-to-be-the-best-at-what-I-do" title. But, we'll see if I'm right.

One Pound Gospel To Be Animated?
According to info published in the latest issue (http://p216.ezboard.com/fperfecteditionfrm7.showMessage?topicID=203.topic) of Young Sunday (vol. 36/37) it was announced that Rumiko Takahashi will resume the series in it's pages from November 22nd (Vol. 52) of this year. The five chapter serial will be entitled "Final Stories" that will end the series, which has been published on and off since 1987. ANS has learned the reason for Takahashi-sensei picking up the reigns to finish the story may lie in plans to adapt it to an anime TV series to begin airing in Japan as early as spring 2007. A 55 minute OAV based on the manga was produced in 1998. Both it and the original comics are released in America by Viz Media.

It should be a minor role though this might not be the case because of a famous voice actor,
The fact is that the character with the voice, if it exceeds the imagination of the production side,
One's turn certainly increases. Like Tomoe [Marguerite] in Tanaka Rie.

Although I picked up the Japanese Region 2 DVD release of Gundam SEED Destiny Vol. #13 a few months ago, I plan on getting the North American Region 1 DVDs of Gundam SEED Destiny, including Vol. #2 this week.
Rie Tanaka, the Japanese voice actress who speaks and sings as Lacus Clyne and Meer Campbell in Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED Destiny, has a lot of non-anime, as well as anime, credits to her name. (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=697)
In the upcoming Japanese Region 2 DVD release of the movie, Down in the Valley (2005), (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=BIBF-6552) on the Japanese audio track, Rie Tanaka dubs the voice of Tobe Sommers, played by Evan Rachel Wood, (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=Evan+Rachel+Wood) in Down in the Valley. (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=Down+in+the+Valley+Edward+Norton+Evan+Rachel+Woo d)
I have preordered it (http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000FBFRE8/) from Amazon Japan.
Rie Tanaka also has the honor of being chosen to recite the immensely influential, enduringly popular anthology of classical Japanese court poetry known as Ogura Hyakunin Isshu (100 Poems by 100 Poets), (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=Hyakunin+Isshu+classical+Japanese+court+poetry) compiled by Fujiwara no Teika (1162-1241). (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=Fujiwara+no+Teika)
Her CD, Tanaka Rie no Hyakunin-isshu (Rie Tanaka's Hyakunin Isshu), (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=517972&postcount=14) comes out next month, in June 2006.
As someone who has studied Japanese poetry and other forms of Japanese literature, I hope to get my hands on this.
Anime On DVD Community Forums: Tanaka Rie no Hyakunin-isshu CD ***UPDATE #1 (06/16/06)*** (http://forums.animeondvd.com/showflat.php?Cat=7&Number=1359289&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&vc=1)
Sounding quite different from her Meer Campbell in Gundam SEED DESTINY and her Simca in Air Gear, here are a couple of samples (http://www.dears.co.jp/1149517800.phtml) of Tanaka Rie reciting poems from Tanaka Rie no Hyakunin-isshu:
Tenchi Tennou (http://etext.virginia.edu/japanese/hyakunin/noJIS/hyaku1.html) (Emperor Tenchi) -- http://www.dears.co.jp/mp3/hyakunin/tanakarie_01syu.mp3
Jitou Tennou (http://etext.virginia.edu/japanese/hyakunin/noJIS/hyaku2.html) (Empress Jitou) -- http://www.dears.co.jp/mp3/hyakunin/tanakarie_02syu.mp3
A Japanese fan observes, "Tanaka Rie really sings Hyakunin Isshu in a dignified voice...!!" ("Hontouni Rie Rie ga rintoshite koe de Hyakunin-isshu utatteru...!!")*
*Rie Rie = Tanaka Rie
UPDATE #1 (06/16/06)
Akiba Blog (Akihabara Blog) (http://www.akibablog.net/) has several pictures of Tanaka Rie no Hyakunin-isshu CDs in stores on its Tanaka Rie no Hyakunin-isshu 2006-06-15 entry (http://www.akibablog.net/archives/img/2006-06-15-510.html) and on its 2006-06-15 Tanaka Rie no Hyakunin-isshu post. Among other things, it is interesting how the CD is being advertised in various shops.
In Pics #2 (#2x) and #6 (#6x), for instance, they promote the Tanaka Rie no Hyakunin-isshu CD as being by Lacus Clyne from Gundam SEED, (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=586543&postcount=287) Meer Campbell from Gundam SEED [DESTINY], Suigintou from Rozen Maiden, Futami Eriko from Kimi Kiss, (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?p=576194) Simca from Air Gear, (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=517972&postcount=14) and other Tanaka Rie characters currently popular in Japan.
Note that in pic 6 (6x), Tanaka Rie no Hyakunin-isshu CDs are stacked alongside with, of all things, erotic materials.
In somewhat unrelated news...
Tanaka Rie's character in Pokemon Advanced (Pocket Monster Advanced Generation), (http://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/anime/pokemon_ag/2_yokoku/main.html) Saori, made her debut on the Thursday, June 15, 2006, 7:00 PM - 7:30 PM broadcast of the show on TV Tokyo. Saori is also scheduled to appear on the June 22, 2006 and June 29, 2006 broadcasts.
Japanese fans point out that Sa (http://megalodon.jp/?url=http://captain.jikkyo.org/cat/s/1149762518409.jpg&date=20060608213613)ori (http://kuma.250free.com/TanakaRieCharacter/Saori_PocketMonsterAdvancedGeneration_01.jpg) in Pokemon Advanced is one more Tanaka Rie character with long, pink hair - along with Lacus Clyne, Meer Campbell, and Simca.
Another tribute to Tanaka Rie and her characters appears to be the Coordinator thing with Saori. Lacus Clyne and Meer Campbell are, of course, Coordinators in the Gundam SEED universe....

"Normal" considering how "unusual" Tomoe Marguerite (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=530804&postcount=46) has been in My-Otome...

The best, most memorable acting performance by far, according to Japanese viewers, in My-Otome/Mai-Otome (2005-) - the large cast includes Ishida Akira, Inoue Kikuko, Iwao Junko, Seki Toshihiko, Noto Mamiko, Kobayashi Sanae, Koshimizu Ami, Yukana, Saiga Mitsuki, Kuribayashi Minami, Nanri Yuuka, Tamura Yukari, Suyama Akio, Shindou Naomi, Chiba Saeko, Shimizu Ai, Shintani Ryouko, Nogawa Sakura, Yuzuki Ryouka, Sakurai Tomo, Nakahara Mai, Takahashi Mikako, Sawashiro Miyuki, Kobayashi Yumiko, et al. Tanaka plays Tomoe Marguerite, (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=530804&postcount=46) Fia Gros, and at least one background character in My-Otome.

Evil Seductress Extraordinaire
Tanaka Rie (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=697) is very versatile and has great range, able to do high, cute, sweet, beautiful voices (Lacus Clyne in Gundam Seed, Chii {Chi} in Chobits, Kingyo no Ran in Tenshi no Shippo {Angel Tales}) to low, deep, mature, sexy voices (Sei in Bakuretsu Tenshi {Burst Angel}, Akira Kayama in Uchuu no Stellvia {Stellvia}, Leandra Cheviat / Sister Lain in Nishi no Yoki Majo - Astraea Testament {The Good Witch of the West - Astraea Testament}).

Simca the Slut, Leandra the Slut, Kyouko the Slut...
Hawt, sexy, seductive voices by Tanaka Rie range from high pitched (Simca (http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/tv/airgear/character/chara06.html) in Air Gear) to low pitched (Leandra Cheviat in The Good Witch of the West, Yachigusa Kyouko {Kyoko} (http://www.pc-moe.com/rizeru/kyoko_chara.html) in Rizelmine, Vivian Wong in Yuugiou {Yu-Gi-Oh} Duel Monsters, Bianchi / Bianki in Katekyo Hitman REBORN!). No one voices slutty characters, evil seductresses and villainy temptresses better than Tanaka Rie, and with Simca, Leandra Cheviat and Yachigusa Kyouko - Sluts Galore! Inc. - you have three of the sluttiest characters in Japanese animation (anime), excluding the adult stuff (hentai).

10 Billion [Yen] --> 12 Billion [Yen]
Well, I think it [Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart] was a success
After the Luminous effect.
Tanaka Rie is the speaking and singing voice of Kujou Hikari, also known as Shiny Luminous, in Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart (2005-2006). (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=MJCD-20035) Hikari / Luminous does not appear in Futari wa Pretty Cure (2004-2005).
After the introduction of Kujou Hikari / Shiny Luminous at the beginning of Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart, Bandai Namco character sales jumped from 10.1 billion yen in fiscal year 2004-2005 for Futari wa Pretty Cure (http://www.bandainamco.co.jp/ir/financial/bandai/character.html) to 12.3 billion yen in fiscal year 2005-2006 for Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart (http://www.bandainamco.co.jp/ir/presentation/pdf_bandai/05_keisu.pdf) - an increase of 21.7 percent, or 2.2 billion yen.
According to yZXpQ9W6 in the livedoor post linked to and quoted above, the great increase of 2.2 billion yen in character sales for the Futari wa Pretty Cure franchise is due to the "Luminous effect" - that is, Shiny Luminous aka Kujou Hikari aka Tanaka Rie.
Kujou Hikari / Shiny Luminous has been said by many in Japan to have been a sales promotion character for Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart. And, as character sales figures from NAMCO BANDAI Holdings Inc. (http://www.bandainamco.co.jp/en/) show, she has been a highly successful one at that.

I don't know if anyone here cares or if it's already well known, but it looks like the music for the Code Geass: Rebellion of Lelouch thing will be done by Kotaro Nakagawa and Hitomi Kuroishi. Nakagawa has worked quite closely with the director before: music for scryed, PLANETES, and Gun X Sword which are all directed by the same guy. As for Hitomi Kuroishi I know she composed some of the Last Exile music as well as the songs sung by 'hitomi' in PLANETES, Gun X Sword and Last Exile. But I'm confused cos there seems to be a totally separate 'hitomi' who is a seiyuu as well. Oh well. Whatever, if it's the person who composed stuff like "A secret of the moon" then it's Win & Awesome anyway.
...and furthermore FLOW is doing the theme song WTF!
Here are the Newtype scans for reference: Page 1 (http://s01.imagehost.org/0693/l01.jpg), Page 2 (http://s01.imagehost.org/0693/l02.jpg)
But you know, I still can't help but think that the designs and the set up seem so typically anime that, well... I just hope it doesn't suck, cos sometimes things like Marketing and Demands of Producers can cause a show with excellent staff to suck like shit anyway. :(

From AnimeNewsService (http://www.animenewsservice.com/):
New Super Robot Taisen Anime TV Series
Banpresto is developing a new TV animation, "Super Robot Taisen OG Devine War". Confirmed staff include Director Kakudou Hiroyuki (Digimon Adventure TV), Series Composition by Takanobu Terada (Super Robot Wars Original Generation), Original Character Concepts by Sachiko Kono, Character Design by Yuji Ikeda (Dragon Ball Z), CG Supervision by Ichiro Itano, Special Technical Direction by Ichiro Itano and Animation Production by OLM.
MrProphet: Eh? I never said he wasn't doing it, he's still doing it of course. (See, he's still here at the bottom (http://s01.imagehost.org/0693/l01.jpg).) It's just that I'm worreid that despite him being leet and all, the show could still be spoiled if the producers or whatnot ruin the show by forcing certain stereotypes or cliches or fan-pandering in, in an unsuitable or unsubtle manner.
Wow :twitch: finally another anime based on a josei manga got announced.

Could this possibly be the next Noitanima show??
No wait, actually, I just read it carefully, it is the next Notianima show (AFTER Hatarakiman). Well I am really looking forward to this - despite me not normally liking stories aimed at girls (though josei>>>>>>shoujo) because the description on the Wikipedia site. It sounds EXACTLY like the kind of story I'd really enjoy! It reminds me a lot of Whisper of the Heart (which I love tremendously). And the visuals look good too - the use of colours especially.
I have exactly the same sentiment as rooboy666... Something bizarre is going on, all this good news at once! And then I find out Flag and Nasu are subbed too... :D

Yeah, it's due somewhere around December. Its listed on moonphase (http://www.moonphase.cc/Html/anime.html)'s list of upcoming anime. I hope he's got time to do a proper job on Nodame Cantabile. My biggest worry is J.C.'s animation... their digital imaging/composite department is great (especially in Honey and Clover, awesome effects) but their actual animation is quite cheap, most of the time :(

Tokyo Majin Gakuen To Be Animated
Based on the popular SHOUT! DESIGNWORKS / Asimk Ace game series which debuted on the PS1 in 1998, "Tokyo Majin Gakuen Tsurugi Kaze Chou" will be adapted to an animation series in Japan this winter. The news comes out of Amuze Soft Entertainment's booth at the ongoing Comike 70 this weekend. The story providing the basis of the adaptation is said to be the original game. The delivery method / format is undetermined and may screen online. Charater Design is said to be greatly changed from the games. Staff includes: original story by Imai Shuhou (Youto Chinkonka - Tokyo Requiem), Director Ishidaira Shinji (Ichi The Killer Animated, Tenbatsu Angel Rabbie), Series Composition and Script by Saizo Nemoto (Getbackers), Character Designs by Nakai Jun (Samurai Champloo), Music by Takayuki Negishi (Card Captor Sakura).

Ok, I'm not enchanted to hear that the Character Design will be "greatly changed" from the original, but I have been awaiting a Tokyo Majin Gakuen anime for years now and I'm delighted to see my wishes fullfiled.

It looks like it is a anime, but not TV series.
Starting in September, the Kiminozo Radio website will begin hosting an independently-produced "Ayu-Mayu Theater" anime. For those who need a reminder, "Ayu-Mayu Theater" was those little shorts that aired at the end of each Kiminozo episode. New episodes will be put up on a monthly basis. I already listen to Kiminozo Radio every week, so it seems likely that the anime will also be able to be streamed worldwide, so everyone can legally watch it for free. I have a very hard time believing they would put any restrictions on it, given how Kiminozo Radio has been run.

Winter Garden
OVA unveiled at the TBS Anime Festa.
A spin-off of the Di Gi Charat series by J.C.Staff featuring a grown-up Dejiko and Puchiko.
The first half of the OVA was shown at today's event, without any prior announcement.
It's Christmas Eve and Dejiko, working at a cake shop/cafe, brings back with her two pieces of cake to eat with Puchiko. Stopping over at the park on her way home, Dejiko slips and squashes the cake. Takurou, who is holding a buche de noel which he intends to eat with his girlfriend Aiko, witnesses it and trades cakes with Dejiko, who can't get him out of her mind. The two bump into each other during hatsumoude and at Dejiko's workplace, gradually establishing a mutual relationship.
Lol, a Di Gi Charat spin-off, which was kept secret until the final credits, although Puchiko's voice acting job, done by Sawashiro Miyuki, was a dead giveaway. It was funny hearing all the laughs by the audience when they reacted to the first credit, Broccoli, the parent company of the retail chain Gamers, whose mascot is Dejiko.
Puchiko, who is an academically and athletically gifted high schooler, steals the show with her sassy remarks.
Sanada Asami (Dejiko) sings the ending song, a cover of a Matsuda Seiko song.
All in all, this was a great surprise, and I'm glad the Di Gi Charat franchise is given a new look.
Can't wait to see the OVA as well as the second half.

Perhaps they could use stock audio...it's a possibility but I think Suzuoki dying really hurts its chances.True, that's why I only said slightly. However, bringing in new voice actors is certainly not unheard of. The Zeta movies themselves are the perfect example of this. Although Sara wasn't really famous like Bright Noa. Still if they want to make an MSG remake, there'd be nothing to really stop them from bringing in a new VA for Bright Noa. Except for maybe an outcry from fans, but they could just go "Hey, them's the breaks kids" and bring in the new VA anyway. Bandai would probably most certaionly push for Sunrise to do this if they think they can turn it into another cash cow.
But I'll never forget the beautiful job that Suzuoki did as Bright Noa.

I'm sorta interested in the Votoms remake only because I found FLAG immensely realistic and enjoyable and this remake will be directed by the same main guy behind FLAG.
What? Directed by the director of FLAG, Terada or the creator of FLAG, Takahashi?
I hope this VOTOMs remake will be awesome. I've enjoyed the original tremendously for it's strong emphasis on military tactics and somewhat borderlining realistic depiction of "real" real mecha genre.

From Anime News Service (http://www.animenewsservice.com/).
News continues to filter in from Charahobby 2006 held this past weekend in Tokyo. Animation studio Ashi Productions had an interesting poster at their booth (seen left). They plan to produce a sequel to their 38 episode 1985 mecha TV anime Choujuu Kishin (Super Beast Machine God) Dancougar. Tentatively being titled "Shin Dancougar", the new work will take the form of a TV series to be directed by Masami Obari (Fatal Fury, Gowkaizer). Oddly enough, one of Obari's first professional anime jobs was designing the mecha in the original Dancougar. According to AshiPro, the project is in the pre production phase where staff are still being gathered, they say look for the new series in about 1 years time.

I just came in my pants. That's the last thing I expected from the SR universe. A Dancougar sequel.
All we need now is a Tobikage sequel, a new Macross, a DENDOH sequel among a few other obscure ones and we can sit back and get ready for the New Wave of Mecha.
Seriously, an upcoming SRW OG 1 TV series adaption, SEED movie, possible 2007 Gundam, VOTOMs 2007, Giant Robo, GaoGaiGar sequel, Dancougar sequel, a new Sousei no Aquarion, a possible new EVA, etc.
What? Directed by the director of FLAG, Terada or the creator of FLAG, Takahashi?

The creator (and overall director), Takahashi.
I'm hearing great things about Dancougar in that it's directed by Masami Oobari (大張正己) who is one of the really key people in coming up and producing those really high-powered adrenaline-filled OP and robot sequences in older robot anime. He's likely to attract a lot of animators because he's so well known, or at least that's what's being said. But at the same time it might be competing for good freelance animators with the other mecha show of interest that's popping up around the same time, Gainax's Gurren-Lagann thingy.

VOTOMs will be good. I can feel it in my bones. If Gundam was heavily influenced by Starship Troopers and World War II motifs, VOTOMS in retrospect is a little more inspired by the Vietnam War et al. I.E. a very down and dirty series. In fact, that's probably what appeals to me--while I love the Gundam franchise, I also feel that a series that doesn't have characteristic 'hero' mecha but just grunts is good, and VOTOMs fits that.
I seem to recall a quote sometime back that when Kunio Okawara was doing the original VOTOMs mecha designs, that the director wanted "Something that looked like it was built from a Garbage Dump". ^_^

So they're making another KGNE series with the Haruka ending for the Haruka fans? Wow... :eyespin:
I'm not dissappointed or anything mind you....I just didn't see that coming at all...my huge shock level cancelled out my "OMFGWTF??!!!"-ness.
And then it's mysteriously gone...
Have we run out of games to translate or something? A remake of Kanon, (essentially) a remake of KGNE. Wow, I know some people who are going to be happy if they get around to Shuffle and Canvas 2. :)
And then it's mysteriously gone...
I don't get it. What's mysteriously gone?
Having another KGNE, with the need to actually specify that it's a "Haruka route" feels like they're just beating a dead horse all over again. Personally, I don't think it would have the same emotional impact, or that I'll be able to have the same reactions knowing what I already know. It might have been better if they chose that fan disk special to adapt instead, since that one has some juicy material of its own albeit little as it may seem.

I'll come out and say that it's a dead horse I'd love to beat ; )
Not that I don't support Mitsuki, nor ignore the realism of her route. But I think your complaint of a lack of emotional impact is slightly misguided.. of course the creators are aware that the familiarity will cushion any sort of emotional suprise we'll bear. This could be construed as both a tribute to relentless Haruka fans, or a milking scheme.. like they've done with MuvLuv. And why not..? Few companies don't squeeze the hell out of their existing IP.
Developing new ones are both costly and risky, plus most new creations are permutations of old formulaes anyway. For me, I'd love to see what they can dish out. If it's a poor job done, people will see it for what it is. Then again, if it's fantastic, it'll be raised by fans into the series cannon; to be watched alongside KGNE the original anime.
Speaking of remakes, I wish someone would do a Tsuyokiss one.. :D:D Already?! Yes.
Oh man, you probably know what my reaction would be to a Tsuyokiss remake! I'll DEFINITELY agree to it! Preferably, with all the Otome-oneechan siscon goodness a hundred times over! :D
But with KGNE being the emotional roller coaster that it is, can I be really blamed for being cautious and careful about it? I'm not really saying that there wouldn't be any emotional impact at all, rather I'm wondering if it'll be just as good, or effective knowing the the effect could possibly be dampened, just as you've said. Like I said, if they really wanted a Haruka scenario done, perhaps it would a better idea to go for that fan disc special, since that one at least provides a fresh (and alternative) look into the story. God knows I'm interested in knowing how those events will turn out.
Oh man, you probably know what my reaction would be to a Tsuyokiss remake! I'll DEFINITELY agree to it! Preferably, with all the Otome-one-chan siscon goodness a hundred times over! :D
Isn't onee-chan for males?
But yes.. Otome ftw :D I'm still deeply disappointed by the current anime and I would heartily welcome a remake with "Otome route" :D I also prefer the closer-to-real look of the game than the slightly more SD look of the ongoing anime. Maybe Kyoani... ; )
Regarding the KGNE "addon/remake" though, it's not clear to me that it's a new series.. I think it'll be more of either a short movie/OVA or a mini OVA series. I don't think there's -that- much material for them to cover. I'll be waiting for more information, like animation studio, director, length etc. to arrive before saying anything more though.

That would be "oniichan." As in, "older/big brother." "Oneechan" means "big sister." Or are you saying that I should rephrase that to: "more of Otome's brother complex please!" :D And well, Kyoani huh? Everyone wants Kyoani to do something! :heh:
Pretty amazing though that despite having a sizeable following and being the main girl herself, she was outstaged by the new girl due to some decision that was finalized by the anime staff. It would've made more sense if it was Nagomi we're talking about here, but man... Oh well. Wasted tears and all that.
Regarding the KGNE "addon/remake" though, it's not clear to me that it's a new series.. I think it'll be more of either a short movie/OVA or a mini OVA series. It still isn't that clear though. Over at the KGNE threads, someone mentioned that it's (or could be) about the special fan disk, but no one is really sure. If they went as far as practically spoiling the ending by labeling it as a Haruka route, it does really make you wonder what this is all about. We'll see.

Oh, I know the differences between the sounds.
But "onee" sounds like "onii" if you try and pronounce it as you see it ; ) So the vocal pronounciation of o-neh chan seems to be spelt more like "one" to me.. : p So I guess I'm off because of the romanization. Thanks for the correction anyway. The new girl is shit.
Otome is awesome. I think I have a, ahem, onee-chan complex :upset:

Kimi ga Nozomu Eien: Haruka Route To Be Animated
A promotional image has surfaced online which indicates Age Soft's (http://www.age-soft.co.jp/) Kimi ga Nozomu Eien: Haruka Route will be adapted to animation. Details such as format are not mentioned. There's a bit of an unusual story behind the "announcement". The image (seen right) apparantly appeared on Age Tech's site between 16:00 and 19:00 on August 28th but was later pulled. There is currently no mention of the project all on Age Tech's site. The image was however, saved by some fans and has been reposted on a host of Japanese blog sites.

I think it most likely that the image was being worked on in-house and someone jumped the gun by posting it before it was ready.Or, as I said in the other thread, it's a prank. That's still my vote, given the "coincidental" timing on Mitsuki's birthday, and immediate replacement with a "Happy Birthday Mitsuki" image and lack of mention anywhere. We'll see though. If they do end up doing it, it'll count as one of the most unusual production decisions I've ever seen.

I certainly wouldn't mind KGNE again with Haruka's route. Unlike most people, I do not fall in either of the main girl camps. While I'm perfectly happy with the ending, I'm still curious as to how Haruka's scenario plays out, just like I'm curious at how other girl's scenario plays out in other gal-game based anime.
If it's a prank, well, you can't have them all. Hoping for the best though...
That said, I find that picture lovely.
I think it most likely that the image was being worked on in-house and someone jumped the gun by posting it before it was ready.
Well, they did make some announcement about it already. Having done that, it's still strange that the image is gone, don't you think? Honestly, I really don't know what to make of this.

i think if this pic of Haruka is all joke, then theres going to be some sad fans out there.
if it is a joke, well well, no matter. there nothing to lose (seeing it wasn't real in the frist place)
and if it is real, i think i'll have to find some way to celebrate.
however im leaning more to towards joke becuase of the day it was shown was Mitsuki's birthday

According to a post (http://www.studiofantasia.co.jp/cgi-bin/bbs44.cgi) to Studio Fantasia's message board, they will be working on a new anime project titled "AIka" in 2007. 01. Chii (Chi) in Chobits ***highest voice***
02. Meer Campbell in Gundam SEED DESTINY
03. Kujou Hikari (Shiny Luminous) in Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart
04. Lacus Clyne in Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED DESTINY

05. Ran in Otogi Story Tenshi no Shippo (Angel Tales) and Tenshi no Shippo Chu!
06. Simca in AIR GEAR
07. Sanada-san (Ms. Sanada) in UFO Princess Valkyrie (UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie)
08. Mizuhara Koyomi (Yomi) in Azumanga Daioh
"Sorezore no One way" ("Everyone's One Way") (http://www.content.loudeye.com/scripts/hurl.exe?clipid=084631801080009000&cid=600111) sung by Mizuhara Koyomi (Tanaka Rie)
09. Futami Eriko (Eririn) in Kimikiss (Kimi Kiss)
10. Kayama Akira in Uchuu no Stellvia (Stellvia)
11. Karen Erra in Phantasy Star Universe
12. Mariel in Hanaukyo Maid-tai (Hanaukyo Maid Team) and Hanaukyou Maid-tai La Verite (Hanaukyo Maid Team La Verite)
"Voice of heart" (http://www.content.loudeye.com/scripts/hurl.exe?clipid=082186201270009000&cid=600111) sung by Mariel (Tanaka Rie)
13. Tomoe Marguerite in Mai-Otome (My-Otome)
14. Suigintou (Ginsama) in Rozen Maiden and Rozen Maiden Traumend
15. Matsukata Hiroko in Hataraki Man
16. Sei in Bakuretsu Tenshi (Burst Angel)
"Breathe" (http://smil.jvcmusic.co.jp/naviram?cd=SE9-19031&sid=ATVE) sung by Sei (Tanaka Rie)
17. Lula (Rura; Rula; Lura) in RED GARDEN ***lowest voice***
Other characters with really low, deep voices by Tanaka Rie include Fila Marik in The Third ~Aoi Hitomi no Shoujo~, Leandra Cheviat (Sister Lain) in The Good Witch of the West - Astraea Testament (Nishi no Yoki Majo - Astraea Testament), and Bianchi (Bianki) in Katekyo Hitman REBORN!
Some Japanese viewers on a Katekyo Hitman REBORN! seiyuu (voice actor) thread at 2ch, in fact, have complained that Bianchi's voice is too deep. (And too scary.) They had expected Bianchi (http://khr.yosuga.net/info_char02.html) to sound like Suigintou, (http://www.tbs.co.jp/rozen-maiden/part1/menu/chara/suigin.html) with her comparatively higher voice.
Tanaka Rie's great range and versatility not only applies to her speaking voice, but extends to her singing voice as well. Check out the above official song samples.
According to one of her 2ch fans, at her Cafe de Rie TEA PARTY & LIVE held this past Sunday, December 3, 2006 in Tokyo - Tanaka Rie there sang a number of songs, including three Lacus Clyne songs, "Shizukana Yoru ni" "Mizu no Akashi" ("Token of Water") and "Fields of hope" - it was remarked that nowadays, ever since Mizuhara Koyomi (Yomi) in Azumanga Daioh - Matsukata Hiroko in Hataraki Man, Tomoe Marguerite in Mai-Otome (My-Otome), and so forth - there is much demand for Tanaka Rie's low voices, and much resultant (voice-related) work.
With her high pitched voice, Simca (http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/tv/airgear/character/chara06.html) in AIR GEAR seems to be a recent exception to the trend of numerous low voiced characters by Tanaka Rie.
Less Lacus, (http://www.gundamofficial.com/worlds/ce/seed/characters/chara_lacus.html) Meer (http://www.gundamofficial.com/worlds/ce/destiny/characters/chara_meer.html) and Chii (http://www.tbs.co.jp/chobits/old/chara/c_chi.html) ... and more Hiroko, (http://www.hataraki-anime.com/intro/img/intro_img1.gif) Lula (http://anime.excite.co.jp/redgarden/image/chara/rura.jpg) and Leandra (http://www.project-westwitch.net/character/reandora.html) appear to be in the future for Tanaka Rie.
In post #824 (http://anime.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/voiceactor/1162573976/824) on the aforementioned archived Tanaka Rie part 56 thread, one Japanese fan (ID:bnYRCJeXO) wrote this about Tanaka Rie:

Gleaning millions of posts and thousands of threads on the Japanese message boards (anime {animation}, comic {manga}, game, etc.) of 2ch (http://www.2ch.net/) the past few years...
Japanese voice actors (seiyuu) Wakamoto Norio (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=954), Koyasu Takehito (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=662), and Noto Mamiko (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=3166) rank among the most recognizable and distinctive voices with 2ch posters. When referring to a character these voice actors play, 2ch posters frequently use their real or stage name instead of their character name.
On the other hand, the voice actor who 2ch posters seem to most closely identify with the characters they play is Tanaka Rie (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=697). When referring to Tanaka Rie, they often use one of her character names instead of her real name.
And more than for any other voice actor, 2ch posters mention Tanaka Rie's range and versatility, which help her portray a number of highly successful and very popular characters, according to facts and figures, who appeal to various and different demographics: Lacus (http://www.animenfo.com/anime/character/display.php?id=1115&n=rwbunc&t=lacus_clyne) Clyne (http://www.happinetonline.com/NASApp/mnas/MxMProduct?Action=prd_detail_pict&SHOP_ID=1&PRODUCT_ID=4543112452665) in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY; Kujou Hikari (Shiny Luminous) (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=640529&postcount=638) in Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart; Suigintou (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=474812&postcount=503) in Rozen Maiden and Rozen Maiden Traumend; Chii (Chi) (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=Chii+Newtype+favorite+female) in Chobits; Futami Eriko (Eririn) (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?p=576194) in Kimi Kiss (Kimikiss)... and Matsukata Hiroko, the main character in Hataraki Man (Hatarakiman) (http://www.hataraki-anime.com/).
Unlike other manga-based titles, Hataraki Man has no smash hit live action movies like DEATH NOTE and NANA do, and no popular live action television series like Nodame Cantabile does, to bolster the subsequent anime version.
DEATH NOTE (Yagami Light and L), NANA (Oosaki Nana and Komatsu Nana {Hachi}), and Nodame Cantabile (Noda Megumi {Nodame} and Chiaki Shin'ichi) feature, more or less, two lead characters. Hataraki Man has only one lead character, Matsukata Hiroko.
In her starring role as Matsukata Hiroko in Hataraki Man, Tanaka Rie once again demonstrates her knack for reaching out beyond her fanbase to broader audiences - this time connecting with people who do not normally watch anime, particularly working men and women in their twenties and thirties.
Hataraki Man appears to be doing much better than expected. Of all the late night television animation series which debuted in Japan during the fall of 2006, in the Kantou region (includes Tokyo) of Japan, Hataraki Man is a solid No. 1 in overall television audience ratings with a 4.03% (episodes 1-9) (http://anime.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/asaloon/1165644957/154). (DEATH NOTE is No. 2 with a 3.58% {episodes 1-10} (http://anime.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/asaloon/1165644957/155).)
Last week (Monday, December 4, 2006 - Sunday, December 10, 2006), episode 9 of Hataraki Man drew a television audience rating of 5.1%. (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=762633&postcount=178)
(During the same week, episode 10 of DEATH NOTE drew a 3.4%.)
Hataraki Man is well on its way to becoming the series with the highest overall television audience rating so far in Fuji TV's NOITAMINA late night animation block.
---
NOITAMINA Series Overall Television Audience Ratings - Kantou Region (Includes Tokyo)
1. Hataraki Man - 4.03% (episodes 1-9; 11 total episodes)
2. ~ayakashi~ Japanese Classic Horror - 3.51%
3. Jyu Oh Sei - 3.50%
4. Honey and Clover II - 3.25%
5. Paradise Kiss - 3.24%
6. Honey and Clover - 3.05%
---
Jyu Oh Sei (Juuousei) (3.50%), and Paradise Kiss (3.24%), two earlier NOITAMINA series, had highly popular, high-priced, mainstream celebrities playing the main character, singer Domoto Kouichi (Domoto Koichi) of J-pop duo KinKi (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=KinKi+Kids) Kids (http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&oe=ISO-8859-1&q=KinKi+Kids&nojs=1) as Thor and model-actress-singer Yamada (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=Yamada+Yuu+model) Yuu (http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&oe=ISO-8859-1&nojs=1&q=Yamada+Yuu) (Yamada (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=Yamada+Yu+model) Yu (http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&oe=ISO-8859-1&nojs=1&q=Yamada+Yu)) as Hayasaka Yukari (Caroline), respectively, presumably at least in part to boost television audience ratings.
As Japanese sources report in Japanese and in English, Matsukata Hiroko sings the theme song, "Eternal," for a television commercial in Japan.

Mr. Kenji Ito was responsible for arranging the commercial music to the game, "Mabinogi", a fantasy MMORPG. He arranged an original composition from the game called, "An Old Story That My Grandmother Heard ", into a vocal theme. The vocalist is Rie Tanaka, well known from the "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED" anime series and from other projects. A 30 second sample of the tune can be heard through the Mabinogi website (http://www.mabinogi.jp/).

The Bottom Line: Rozen Maiden has some very intersting characters, some decent dialog, a good soundtrack, and great Japanese voice acting. What drags it down though is the disappointing English dub and the lack of extras, but these don't hurt the series too bad. In the end, Rozen Maiden looks like a promising series. I personally was skeptical at first but came to realize how entertaining it really is. It's cute, fun and full of life. If only the fight scenes were a little longer. . .
The Japanese voice acting is great, the soundtrack is top notch and there are good sound effects, but the lack of surround sound and mediocre English dub brings it down.

Three: Hearing the original VA reveals more about the character than dubs because some things simply cannot be translated. Furthermore, the English VA's often cannot support the intonation changes, and as a result the character loses flavor. I recently got vol2 of the Rozen Maiden dub, and Suigintou's VA [Mia Bradly (Karen Strassman)] just cannot do the deep tones. How can you get a tsundere character without the oscillating voice? Just doesn't work...
Pojo.com Forums - View Single Post - Best and Worst Dub Providers? (http://www.pojo.biz/board/showpost.php?p=7419415&postcount=27)
I think you're missing a point here. There are times when the character specific "quirks" do not have English equivalent, and as a result, the character loses a lot of his/her flavor. Again, look back to Rozen Maiden. The ~desu ending Suiseiseki uses in EVERY sentence doesn't really have a counterpart in English. Furthermore, it is important to note that the U isn't devoiced, which is common only for certain areas of the country. All of that gets lost in translation...
The other point was that the VA's have a hard time oscillating when they're asked to go from very very soft chuckles to deep voice intonations. Since I already mentioned RM, look at Suigintou's VA. She puts in a lot of effort but the voice change isn't as pronounced as it should be. The seiyuu [Rie Tanaka] goes from one extreme to the other, with her deep end almost reaching the Red Arcueid tones! As a result, the dub Suigintou loses a lot of the intimidation factor that she has.
Tanaka Rie's unique, distinctive voice and delivery help make her voice acting performances of characters like Suigintou (Gin-sama), Tomoe Marguerite, and Suigintou clone Nomura stand out and memorable among fans and creators of manga and anime.

The best part was when Tanaka Rie did her trademark Gin-sama mock towards Takano during the phone conversation. Gin-sama~ (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=1274268&postcount=41)
@ kj1980
Yeah, "Suigintou" was awesome. I'll need the subs to know exactly what was being said, but that tone of voice was beautifully evil. (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=1274335&postcount=42)
gin sama!!!!!! *fanboys*
yea...noone can beat tanaka rie at mocking ^^ (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=1277908&postcount=57)
You bet. It was indeed very funny when she was teasing Takano just like how Suigintou teased the old man. "What absurdity. There is a limit how delused you can be. What kind of morons are that Tanako 123 and Takano 34. Ah hahahahaha."
I bet she enjoyed seeing Takano goes nuts. Ah ha ha ha ha. (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=1275526&postcount=48)
I saw it coming. So great to hear evil Rie.
Gin-sama. (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=1283549&postcount=77)
I have watched the lake scene involving Suigintou and Jun Sakurada in episode 12, "Reiner Rubin," of Rozen Maiden in both the original Japanese version and the English dub version a number of times, sometimes switching back and forth between the Japanese and English tracks on the Rozen Maiden Vol. 3: War of the Rose DVD, a North American Region 1 DVD release from Genenon Entertainment (USA) Inc.
Among other things, the difference in the mocking skills of Rie Tanaka, the Japanese voice actress for Suigintou, and Mia Bradly, the English dub voice actress for Suigintou, is vast. It is decidedly in favor of Rie Tanaka.
Mia Bradly cannot even come close to Rie Tanaka in the ability to mock.
Rie Tanaka's unique, distinctive trademark mocking helped make the anime Suigintou famous and popular with fans inside and outside Japan. Many fans frequently refer to Rie Tanaka as Suigintou or Gin-sama.
I sincerely doubt that will ever happen with Mia Bradly.
Forget Google in Japanese. One gets far more hits - and many, many, many more relevant hits - on Google in English with "Suigintou Rie Tanaka (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=Suigintou+Rie+Tanaka)" than with "Suigintou Mia Bradly (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=Suigintou+Mia+Bradly)."
Rie Tanaka's performance as Suigintou is special and memorable. Mia Bradly's performance as Suigintou is flat and unremarkable.
Rie Tanaka's Suigintou has a very charming, charismatic personality. Radio personality Suigintou aka Rie Tanaka hosts a highly successful hit internet radio show in Japanese, Suigintou no Koyoi mo Ennu~i (Suigintou's It's Ennui Again, Tonight).
Even if drama CDs and radio CDs were viable in English, Mia Bradly's Suigintou lacks the charm, the charisma, and the personality to sell Suigintou no Koyoi mo Ennu~i Web Radio CDs in English.

While the English dub voice actress for Suigintou in Rozen Maiden is plain and unremarkable, the English dub voice actress for Tomoe Marguerite in My-Otome is just plain bad and horrible. Terrible.
Rie Tanaka set an extremely high bar in her incredible voice acting performance of Tomoe Marguerite in My-Otome, much acclaimed by native Japanese speaking viewers at the notoriously negative 2ch message boards in Japan, as well as by English speaking viewers elsewhere - not to mention the lavish praise heaped upon Rie Tanaka by My-Otome director Masakazu Obara and My-Otome head writer Hiroyuki Yoshino.
The bar had been set so high that a number of My-Otome fans on English language forums and websites did not expect Tomoe's English dub voice actor to match Rie Tanaka's amazing performance.
How right they were.
Tracy Sutton's subpar, monotone voice acting performance in English as Tomoe Marguerite in My-Otome falls flat, far below the high bar set by Rie Tanaka.
An English dub viewer comments:
AnimeOnDVD Forums - View Single Post - DVD Review: My-Otome Vol. #6 (http://www.animeondvd.com/aodvb/showpost.php?p=1328285&postcount=7)
I got this volume about a month in advance. I have a few thoughts about the dub performance. Its not all bad, don't get me wrong, but there are a few odd things.
.
.
.
3. In episode 22, when Tomoe attacks Miyu, was it just me or did anyone else hear her say, "I'll show you what -weight- can do" ... those lines were delivered very poorly. Then afterwards, when Miyu cuts Tomoe's spear, I couldn't tell if she said, "my element" or "my almond". Her voice actor [Tracy Sutton] doesn't do a very good job at portraying the "evil/psycho" Tomoe.
Tracy Sutton does not dub in English the voice of Fiar Grosse, another character in My-Otome originally voiced in Japanese by Rie Tanaka. A different voice actress, Julie Cho, (http://www.crystalacids.com/database/title/1242/my-otome/fullcast/) voices Fiar in English.
Tracy Sutton has more than enough trouble dubbing the voice of Tomoe in My-Otome. Apparently, having her also dub the voice of Fiar in My-Otome is just asking too much from her.

It has been a long time since a work gave me an erection.
Especially good were the torture scenes with the woman sadist performing body piercing.
That sublime performance by Tanaka Rie cured my impotence.

The voice actor who does the voice of that dominant sadist Yamanobe Sayara, Tanaka Rie, is very good, isn't she?
Her voice for the sadistic queen overflowed with that madness seeking the bizarre, and sent shivers down my spine.

I finally saw the video now.
I watched it with Noto and Kugimiya being the focus of my attention, but...
Tanaka Rie's extraordinary voice acting performance shone, didn't it? lol
Tanaka was not much of a favorite of mine before, but I have become a fan of hers now.
[>>900]
That voice for the dominant sadist woman (Yamanobe Sayara) was a tour de force.
When it comes to acting ability,
Tanaka Rie > Oohara [Ohara] Sayaka > Noto Mamiko > Kugimiya Rie
This is probably the order.
Seiyuu Whom Japanese Fans Consider Good Actors and Good Looking
Jitsuryoku to rukkusu ga tomonatteru seiyuu tte iru no (http://anime3.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/voice/1192941545/1-)? (http://p2.chbox.jp/read.php?url=http://anime3.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/voice/1192941545/) (What voice actors have real [acting] ability and [good] looks?)
The Japanese poster who started the thread linked to above on the Seiyuu Sougou @ 2ch Keijiban (Voice Actor Synthesis @ 2ch Message Board) at 2ch made it clear that the he/she is not talking about popular leading idol seiyuu types like Horie Yui.
The 2ch thread is not about popularity, what is hot at the moment, who is the most marketable, who sells the most CDs, who has the most "moe" voice and whatnot - which so many Japanese "best" awards in anime appear to be - but instead about voice actors who have real talent and are good looking too.
Ono Daisuke leads among male voice actors who are good at acting and who are good looking.
Tanaka Rie (commonly known by her nickname "Rie Rie") and Kobayashi Sanae lead among female voice actors who are good at acting and who are attractive.
Heard by millions of people around the world as the voice of Pikachu (Pikachuu) in Pokemon (Pocket Monsters), Ohtani Ikue (Ootani Ikue) follows Tanaka Rie and Kobayashi Sanae as female voice actors who are good at acting and who are attractive.
Kobayashi Sanae seems to be one of the more underappreciated seiyuu among non-Japanese anime fans. Along with Tanaka Rie, Sawashiro Miyuki, Koshimizu Ami, Gotou Yuuko, Sanpei Yuuko and maybe a few others, Kobayashi Sanae is considered by many Japanese fans at 2ch to be a member of a select group (ha) of voice actresses in their twenties who possess real [acting] skills (jitsuryoku). (Jitsuryokuha = real ability group.)
The huge forums (http://www2.2ch.net/2ch.html) at Japan's 2ch, reportedly the world's largest, are notorious for their negativism and hordes of "anti" posters who bash anything and anyone.
Notwithstanding the antis, if 2ch posters say you're good, then you're good.

Oi, oi. It seems that the Evangelion rumours are really coming true. It's not just a retake - not a digitally mastered version or whatever, but apparently an entirely new take on teh series? I'm not very sure about the details... something about movies, and that new studio Anno apparently set up.
This couldn't be shopped, I guess? http://s03.imagehost.org/0845/eva_kikaku.jpg
But don't take my word for it at all... that goes withotu saying...
Another link with scans: ttp://www.animaniax.net/daial01.htm I guess it really will be a 4-parter movie, with the same pacing as the TV series but new outcomes... hmm
More unconfirmed news about the new Evangelion anime.
From Anime News Service (http://www.animenewsservice.com/):
Unconfirmed: New Evangelion Anime Details
The following is totally unconfirmed: The title for the new film series is "Evangelion Shin Gekijou Ban", it will consist of 4 parts with the first part arriving in Japanese theaters in early summer, 2007. Staff include General Supervisor: Hideaki Anno, Director: Tsurumaki Kazuya , Character Design: Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, Mecha Design: Ikuto Yamashita, Animation Production: Khara (Color) Studio. The scenario of the 1st part will be written by Hideaki Anno with storyboard by Shinji Higuchi. Key points of a supposed interview which may or may not appear in the forthcoming edition of Newtype attributed to Toshimichi Ohtsuki of King Records have also been circulating. According to that information:
-The content is quite different though the time base of the story is the same as the original TV series.
- It will be a remake, however, it is not a re-creation but a "new work".
- The approach will be different than what Tomino-san did with the Gundam Z New Translation films, there will apparantly be a large amount of new material.
- Even if the TV series has not be seen, the viewer will be able to enjoy it. Though the content becomes easy, it is not redundant to those already familiar with the series.
- The technique that purposely scatters difficult words and phrases will not be used any longer.
- As an antithesis to current animation industry segments. It is an attitude on the production side to pull the act in the age that started from Eva.

Yes, Shuffle! Memories.
I was very excited when I heard about this, but after reading eggplant's post (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=668305&postcount=140) about it, I'm not so excited now >.< I was really hoping for a new story with a totally new ending >.< I so want a Kaede ending (Kaede is the cutest :P ).

So Yay :D the new 4 part Evangelion film series is now confirmed :D
From Anime News Service (http://www.animenewsservice.com/):
Confirmed: "Evangelion Shin Gekijou Ban" Details
Apparant scans from the October, 2006 issue of the Japanese edition of Newtype Magazine (not officially due out on shelves until this wekeend) have appeared online, backing up almost word for word the information reported below. Images Copyright (c) Kadokawashoten 2006 / (c) GAINAX - Khara / Project Eva The title for the new film series is "Evangelion Shin Gekijou Ban", it will consist of 4 parts (First volume, Second part, Latter part and Final story) with the first part arriving in Japanese theaters in early summer, 2007.
- As an antithesis to current animation industry segments, it is an attitude on the production side to pull the act in the age that started from Eva.
More about SHUFFLE! Memories:
From Anime News Service (http://www.animenewsservice.com):
Shuffle! Memories Announced
Also due to be announced in the October, 2006 Japanese edition of Newtype Magazine: Director Naoto Hosoda is going back into the studio turn out "SHUFFLE! MEMORIES", a Director's Cut version of the 2005 24 episode WOWOW TV series Shuffle!. The new series will re-edit the original, combining entirely new material, an added new story and new OP's and ED's. Broadcast is expected to be carried out by Chiva Television and others this winter. The story will focus in on the 5 girls.
Sounds interesting. I'm hoping that Primula gets a boyfriend. (Ruri-type, smart and appears to be young for her actual age, is always the underdog. I always cheer Ruri on ever since Martian Successor Nadesico.) It's like the loli component overwhelms them and they never can develop properly like other females in their social group.
It's one big season of recaps, with some new materials sparkled around to entice the audience? That doesn't sound much fun at all...
