And another anime got announced: Tsuyokiss
Damn, this summer is going to be one hella tsundere (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=499318&postcount=1) filled season!!
Madhouse is in a roll! They've just announced the production of a new series called Kemonozume, which is product of the mind that belongs to Masaaki Yuasa, director of the brilliant Mind Game film. This and the Black and White teaser just made up my day.
Now this sounds interesting.
And Tsuyokiss is going to get animated?! Holy Crap! And to think I was just saying to myself that it's about time someone should've made a tsundere-themed series by now...

While wholesale changes in the cast have occurred in other drama CD to anime conversions, such as Rozen Maiden and ARIA, a number of Japanese fans believe that no similar wholesale changes in the cast will occur for Binbou Shimai Monogatari because it is a Toei Animation production.
According to at least one poster on 2ch, (http://www.2ch.net/) Toei appears to favor Tanaka Rie, who has been cast in prominent roles on Toei Animation titles like Kujou Hikari (Shiny Luminous) on Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart, Takane Kiku on Ring ni Kakero 1 and Shimuka/Simca on Air Gear.
We'll see.

Tanaka Rie has uttered her share of favorite catch words, catch phrases, and interjections through characters she has played in anime.

Many anime fans in Japan (and elsewhere) closely identify Tanaka Rie with characters she has played and what they have said, such as Suigintou ("junk," "nyuusankin") in Rozen Maiden and Tomoe Marguerite ("gomikuzu") in My-Otome.
The following example comes from a recent My-Otome thread archived at 2ch.

The extraordinary acting performance of Tanaka Rie ... if I had realized this earlier, that there were various ways to do the character [of Tomoe Marguerite]......
[Head Writer Hiroyuki] Yoshino
Then there is the acting of Rie Tanaka in the role of Tomoe. I take my hat off to her (smiles).
Tanaka Rie is famous among anime fans in Japan and elsewhere for playing great evil villains, such as Tomoe Marguerite in My-Otome, Suigintou in Rozen Maiden, and Morganna in .hack//SIGN.
Something Big in Store for Tanaka Rie and Her Fans
In post #648 (http://anime.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/voice/1152803455/648) of the Desunooto Animeka Seiyuu Yosou Kenketteigo Sure 4 (After the Decision to Make the Death Note Animation Voice Actor Predictions Thread 4), (http://anime.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/voice/1152803455/) icWQbRlxO brings up that it seems to have been said on radio that something "big" was decided for Tanaka Rie.
Could "big" mean a role in DEATH NOTE?
The roles of Amane Misa (post #651) (http://anime.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/voice/1152803455/651) and Kiyomi Takada (post #653) (http://anime.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/voice/1152803455/653) are mentioned.
But I+/hZDVj40 in post #650 (http://anime.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/voice/1152803455/650) notes that the word "big" ("ookii") generally indicates the "starring role" or "playing the leading part" ("shuen"), does it not?
The lead role in DEATH NOTE is Yagami Raito (Light) ... a man. There is no relationship to DEATH NOTE, I+/hZDVj40 observes, right?
Then the bombshell dropped.

The Nodame thread pond. (http://anime.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/voice/1152803455/654)
Post #654 by yD64hxf20 has been copied and pasted to a number of threads on various 2ch message boards. (http://www2.2ch.net/2ch.html)
Rumors on 2ch can be hit or miss ... often miss.
Persistent 2ch rumors had named the new cast for the six main characters in Saint Seiya, including Tanaka Rie as the new voice actor for Kido Saori aka Athena. While 2ch rumors of the voice actors for the other five main Saint Seiyuu characters were right, they were wrong about Tanaka Rie as Saori. It turned out to be Orikasa Fumiko.
On the other hand, constant 2ch rumors that Tanaka Rie had landed a major role in Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart proved to be true. Tanaka Rie was indeed cast in Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart - as the voice actor of Kujou Hikari, also known as Shiny Luminous. (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=517972&postcount=14)
So, for now, take rumors of Tanaka Rie being the voice actor of Noda Megumi (Nodame) in Nodame Cantabile with a grain of salt.
But Tanaka Rie does mention in her Summer Vacation (Natsuyasumi) 2006/08/02 23:39 (http://tanaka-rie.com/diary/?20060802) entry on diary at her official website, rierie world, that a "big work has been decided" ("ookiina oshigoto ga kimarimashita") and that, as soon as they can, they will gladly announce it.
In my three or so years of following her official website, I do not recall Tanaka Rie using "big work" ("ookiina oshigoto") to describe one of her upcoming roles before.
If I+/hZDVj40 is correct, then this "big work" means that Tanaka Rie will star in some major Japanese animation (anime) title. Whether it be as Nodame in Nodame Cantabile, or something else, remains to be seen.
The starring role turned out to be Matsukata Hiroko (Hiro), the main character in Hataraki-Man.

10 Billion [Yen] --> 12 Billion [Yen]
Well, I think it [Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart] was a success
After the Luminous effect.
Tanaka Rie is the speaking and singing voice of Kujou Hikari, also known as Shiny Luminous, in Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart (2005-2006). (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=MJCD-20035) Hikari / Luminous does not appear in Futari wa Pretty Cure (2004-2005).
After the introduction of Kujou Hikari / Shiny Luminous at the beginning of Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart, Bandai Namco character sales jumped from 10.1 billion yen in fiscal year 2004-2005 for Futari wa Pretty Cure (http://www.bandainamco.co.jp/ir/financial/bandai/character.html) to 12.3 billion yen in fiscal year 2005-2006 for Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart (http://www.bandainamco.co.jp/ir/presentation/pdf_bandai/05_keisu.pdf) - an increase of 21.7 percent, or 2.2 billion yen.
According to yZXpQ9W6 in the livedoor post linked to and quoted above, the great increase of 2.2 billion yen in character sales for the Futari wa Pretty Cure franchise is due to the "Luminous effect" - that is, Shiny Luminous aka Kujou Hikari aka Tanaka Rie.
Kujou Hikari / Shiny Luminous has been said by many in Japan to have been a sales promotion character for Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart. And, as character sales figures from NAMCO BANDAI Holdings Inc. (http://www.bandainamco.co.jp/en/) show, she has been a highly successful one at that.

Tsuyoki + Kiss = Tsuyokiss
Tsuyoki: strong and bold personality

Nope, no Death Note anime... I doubt it will ever happen. The idea has come up a lot, but people are reluctant to animate it because they believe it is "too dark" for TV. And even if it was animated, it would be a LOT of talking. Talk talk talk.
So the closest we'll get to Death Note anime is that episode of Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid that randomly had Death Note characters in it. :P
And though Death Note will probably never be animated, this year we have TWO live-action Death Note movies to look forward to instead! :D
The title got corrected to Tsuyokiss (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=513253&postcount=250).
つよきす
Tsuyokiss
From AnimeNfo (http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3732,gpurjm,tsuyokisu.html):
This anime is based on a game by Candy Soft. The game is a typical dating simulation that takes place in a high school. However, the selling point of this game is that all(?) the female characters are "tsundere"(*).
The main character, Tsushima Reo, isn't engaged in either sports or study, and he is always hanging around with his childhood friends, Samesuga Shinichi, Date Subaru, and Kanisawa Kinu.
He secretly loves Kiriya Eria. She is a daughter of Kiriya Cooperation, very beautiful, smart, and a student leader. However, her acts are very eccentric. Therefore, at the same time she is loved by many students, she is hated by as many students.
One day, because the main characters are being late for school, they try to sneak into the campus. However, a girl knocks them out to catch. It is Kurogame Otome. She is Reo’s cousin, and Reo thought of her as his elder sister when they were children, but they haven’t met for years. Soon, she begins to live with Reo in the same house in order to change his lazy life.
(*) Tsundere is a slang born in the Internet, and it is a word to describe the nature of female anime or game characters. Tsundere is a word combining two words, "Tsun Tsun" and "Dere Dere". Both terms describe attitudes of a person. "Tsun Tsun" is used for cold/blunt/curt attitude, while "Dere Dere" is used when a person becomes spoony in front of his/her lover. Therefore, "Tsundere" is a female character who is usually cold, but she becomes spoony on her lover. Or, she is cold to the main character at first, but she becomes lovestruck later.

Correct me if I'm wrong about this: It seems there are two Sky Girls anime; a tv series and the other one an OVA.
Afaik Skygirls is a one-shot OVA (something like Mave-chan, yeah pseudo jetfighter-girls are all the rage). The Konami TV series are Akazukin and Tokimeki Memorial, and I think Saint October.

Following in the footsteps of Koei's other popular NeoRomance video game titles (Angelique and Harukanaru Toki no Naka de), it was just annouced that Kiniro no Corda will be adapted into a TV anime. Kiniro no Corda is a shoujo video game that was adapted into a manga (currently being released in America by Viz). It's a shoujo series about high school students who play musical instruments.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v45/do_mi_no/kiniro.jpg
You can see the official website for the PS2 game here (http://www.gamecity.ne.jp/neoromance/corda/). The game falls under the NeoRomance category. NeoRomance games are games made by Koei that feature shoujo-style romances as the main theme. Japan's most popular dating sims for girls. ^_^ I'm so excited!
Edit: The manga of this is listed on Viz's website for January 2006 release, but it never came out. Wtf? :uhoh: Evil Viz... announcing licenses and never releasing the product... just like what they did to Gintama. *shoots Viz*

From AnimeNfo (http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3741,xybpwu,pumpkin_scissor.html):
The long war against Frost Republic scarred many places of the Empire; famine, plague, returned soldiers who become bandits… Worrying about these "war damages" resulting from the devastations of the nation and people's minds, the Empire Army orgnaizes the 3rd section of Information Bureau known as "Pumpkin Scisors", and they assigned the section for the duty of recovery from the war damage.
Three years have passed since the truce so called "thin ice agreement". The 3rd section hasn't accomplished their task, yet. Rather, they are absorbed in paper works, and without notice, people ridicule that it is an "Excuse Section" that suppress people's complaint. However, they strive to achieve their tasks. One day, a man offers a help to them. It was a big guy who used to be a soldier. Dangling an iron lantern from his waist, he handles a heavy gun one-handed.

すもももももも~地上最強のヨメ~
Sumomomo Momomo ~Chijou Saikyo no Yume~It should be good, I'll be looking out for this one. Quite a few guys and girls and a Good mix of Genre. I really!!! hope the anime character designs try to stay close to the manga. Looking elsewhere I've read its also has alot of martial arts in the manga, which is a big part of the story, yea!
Love! the art.

Ahh also guessing from the picture, the main male is the guy in the Ace card, the male in the joker card is the funny one (or maybe tries to be funny >.< ), I'm just guessing here >.<
Edit:
Isn't the main female very cute
A little speculation.
Last year (2005) there was a article in Newtype USA, that said that Bee-Train is planning to do third "guns and girls" series after Noir and Madlax, a kind of trilogy. Now, Noir aired spring 2001 and Madlax spring 2004, so that puts possible third series spring 2007. :heh:
I'm hoping that they announce it soon. :heh:
did I hear something somwhere about samurai champloo 2, or am i insane?
i think i'm going nuts.. anyways, i'm happy about sumomomo! here's the summary:
Koushi INUZUKA is a smart high school student who aims to become a public prosecutor. Unfortunately for our good guy, he was born into a martial arts family whose head (ie his father) only knows one language: violence. When Koushi was still a baby, his father made a pact with his biggest rival to marry Koushi to his opponent-turned-friend's daughter. The union of the two blood lines is supposed to bring forth Earth's strongest martial arts clan.
Skip forward: Koushi is in high school, oblivious to the marriage arranged for him at his birth. Enter Momoko KUZURYUU: sugar bomb, airhead, loli martial arts artist and Koushi's self-proclaimed bride (the strongest on Earth, no less). Her wish for sexual intercourse meets with Koushi's square refusal as he has absolutely no desire to get it on with someone who looks like she could be his little sister, not to mention that he doesn't have the foggiest idea who she actually is.
Meanwhile, a war has broken out between the martial arts families. For Koushi, this means that numerous fighters are out to challenge him. As if that weren't bad enough, our protagonist also has a fight phobia due to a traumatic incident that took place in his childhood. Now it's up to Momoko and her superhuman fighting skills to protect her "husband." Will the two sweethearts survive the trials and tribulations ahead of them? More importantly, will Momoko get her way receiving a baby from Koushi?
Thanks Yotsuba for the info :)

It got me really angry to know that they have changed the main character :frustrated:
But I love yuri >.< so I'm pretty annoyed/angry but also excited :uhoh: LOL :heh:
Are you sure it's yuri? Because Sunao is just the new character from the PS2 version of the game... But man, what a disappointment. Out of all the heroines to be the main, Sunao isn't one of those I expected.
No. Actually, the whole damn thing is starting to look like a huge disappointment. :(

No. Actually, the whole damn thing is starting to look like a huge disappointment. :(
I'm still not sure, Is she going to be the main heroine (and the main character is the guy Leo) or she's the main character of this anime (and Leo doesn't even exist  ).
Yeah and I was disappointed myself, they sure like to ruin bishoujo games.
But I still like yuri :p :D
I'm still not sure, Is she going to be the main heroine (and the main character is the guy Leo) or she's the main character of this anime (and Leo doesn't even exist  ).
Well even if the anime would go the former route, I would've expected two others as the main contenders to the main heroine/love interest role, and not Sunao of all people. (The top two in the popularity polls for instance... Sunao isn't even the "main" girl.)
Yeah and I was disappointed myself, they sure like to ruin bishoujo games.
I also hate the character designs by the way. Man, what a downer this update has been.
My first reaction was negative too, especially since they also got entirely new seiyuus, it seems. But then... the game itself was so good - let's see how they will organize the anime.
Here's a new scan, and even though the art doesn't reach the amazing quality from the game, I think that it isn't toooo bad. If I hadn't seen the original designs, I'd probably have been quite content. At least Hime seems to come very close...
http://vista.x0.to/img/vi4618457913.jpg
Also - tsundere is good, and none of the girls ever showed any trouble with her hormones ;) ... so I doubt that we'll go the yuri route. Besides, a GIRL as lead for a bishoujo harem anime would be fun! I suspect that she'll only be the lead female though.
OMG Death Note's getting animated!? My friends are gonna SPAZZ. :heh:

My first reaction was negative too, especially since they also got entirely new seiyuus, it seems.
Yeah, thats the stinger, they had such a great cast of seiyuus and they completely changed it? No way I can be satisfied with a subpar performance of kani or hime's voice. huunda
But I'll give it a chance before I commit seppuku. We can always pretend it never existed, like Negima or Tsukihime, like some people already are.

Are you sure they are new voices, don't some seiyuus use pseudonyms for when they work on bishoujo games, such as Koyasu Takehito (he's listed under a different name for one character he voices in MuvLuv) or Kisho Taniyama (of Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien fame)?
I was looking forward to Tsuyokiss when I saw the news posted on ANN and felt the voices (at least in so much from the OP for the game and the commercial on the game's website) fit and the designs looked nicer, although I find the anime designs to be okay as well.
I was just curious which one is Sunao (I already found out who the blonde character is :P)? Is there really any truth that the male lead, Reo/Leo, isn't the main character?

It's still too early to cast final judgment, but personally it just feels so cheap that they loli-fied the characters. But that's just me.

She's the new character in the PS2 version. Brown hair and pig tails. She totally respects Otome but hates Hime, hence why she's reluctant to join the commitee. As for Leo, I read somewhere that the reason why he's no longer the main was because Sunao's role would be lessened if he was there—which sounds like bull—which also raises the question just how significant she is as a main character. (Well, that was from 2ch, so don't quote me on that...) When you put it this way, the anime is starting to sound like an advertisement for the PS2 game more than anything else.
What's worse, if Leo won't be in the anime, then there's a chance that good 'ol Fukahire and Subaru won't be there either. I'm with ayyo on this one. I'll give the anime a chance and if it sucks, I'll just pretend it doesn't exist.

Weird, I don't get why they'd change the main character, I mean in the OP for the PS2 game, Sunao is in bed with, I am assuming here, Leo and such...
I wouldn't rely on the 2chan rumors _too_ much. All girls are "known" to be straight, so there's gotta be at least one male protagonist. And why would they drop such great support characters like Subaru or Fukahire?
Oh wow I just watched Moribito's trailer. It looks so good. Sorta giving me the Ghibli vibes too. Must be that old obaasan.
Production I.G has announced they are undertaking the anime TV series adaptaion of Uehashi Naoko and Futatsugi Saki's award winning juvenile fantasy novel Seirei No Moribito. 26 episodes are scheduled, network and start times have yet to be made public. Confirmed staff include Director Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) and Character Designs by Asou Warera. Uehashi mentioned being a fan of the Ghost In The Shell TV seires. A preview trailer is now available at the official website: www.moribito.com
Thanks for the link, that was indeed a nice trailer - I love the drums at the last bit, very cool! And the animation looks good. if Takeshi Honda gets involved in this I'll DEFINITELY be watching! And the original author seems happy with the production - she was hoping she could get it done properly, and the director also said he wanted to make it in a way that the author would definitely be satisfied with it, so I think we might have a good quality production here. Let's just hope so. I just hope IG doesn't botch up Chevalier D'Eon (or are they during the same time??).
And the premise is a little unusual too - a 30-yo woman protecting a 11 year old special kid...

True. But they were quoting from somewhere else too, and I did see the same thing being said in a different site—though that one mentioned Leo at one point. But since there isn't anything like that on the homepage so far, I'm still unsure as well. Still, why not Otome or Nagomi as the main heroines? That's what most of the fans want anyway. (Or Hime for that matter, since apparently she's the favorite of the scenario writer.) I'm just somewhat disappointed I guess.

Moribito is definitely one of those I'm looking forward to. It's been high up on my list ever since I've first heard of it.
Actually, there are times when I amusingly say to myself that it's what Condor Hero should've looked like if it was made by a more experienced studio with a larger budget... :heh:
And the premise is a little unusual too - a 30-yo woman protecting a 11 year old special kid...
For some reason that premise is giving me the Motoko vibes. :heh:
Oh my, Moribito looks rather promising.
I agree about the Ghibli feel, especially in the Mononoke like backgrounds and the Yubaba lady...
Moribito, at least from the website, looks pretty cool, what's the story about?
Moribito, at least from the website, looks pretty cool, what's the story about?
From AniDB (http://anidb.info/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=4403)
Based on a fantasy novel by Uehashi Naoko & Futatsugi Saki.
Chagumu, the second prince of New Yogo Kingdom, is the person who is chosen once in 100 years to be deposited an egg by a water fairy, and he must become the guardian of fairies.
Thinking of him as a nuisance, the king tries to kill him, while the queen asks a female guard, Valsa, to protect him.
However, the beings live in another world, Nayugu, aim at him to eat an egg laid in Chagumu’s body.
@.@
Vibes of Motoko? Well, come to think of it, it vaguely reminds me of that episode she had in... where was it, Chinatown? Where there was that young kid. Heh, I kinda enjoyed that episode, I wonder if this'll be like that. Let's just see what Kenji Kamiyama does then.
I really want to hear more of the music though - and while this may be in vain, I hope they can keep the quality of the trailer. The impact can be much greater if they keep it like that, otherwise you'd get stuff like Blood+...

Let's be realistic; few, if any, trailers (and first episodes) maintain their quality for a full season. I know people like to bash Blood + for all its shortcomings, but it has managed to maintain a high level of consistent animation and overall quality for the majority of its episodes. This can only be encourgaging for those expecting Production I.G to deliver Chevalier and Moribito as A-list material for the summer season...

Oh wow I just watched Moribito's trailer. It looks so good. Sorta giving me the Ghibli vibes too.I thought it was just a movie at first, by its a 26 episode series O.O The production quality looked like a movie, well nothing is going to stop me from watching it when it comes out :)
Just curious, is Tsuyokiss airing this July? Using the GREAT translator, Babelfish, it says something about a nationwide broadcast schedule from July 2006 onwards on the game's official site.

Yeah, hence why I said my wish was in vein. Trailers are obviously purposely made to look nice so that people get attracted but when it comes to the actual show they almost always can't maintain it - it's inevitable. (Unless it's an OVA)
If you ask me though, I honestly think Blood+'s level of animation is not high. For a 52 ep show it's expected, with all the farming-out and what not, but it's just average to me. High would be the level of Eureka 7. Or IGPX, or Planetes or Paranoia Agent (though they're definitely shorter).
My worry is only that they can balance the two properly. I wonder what kind of teams they're going to build up - for Chevalier it's a director they've pretty much never worked with and the character designer isn't in-house, though for Moribito the director's an IG person... I suspect Moribito might just get the better budget + animation because the author has expectations and it seems like Kamiyama is the type of person who'll kill himself to get the job done as well as he can.
Guess we'll just wait and see. If the director for Chevalier can bring the good talent that is sometimes attached to him (cough hack Norio Matsumoto) then it'll be worth watching too. People like Matsumoto can single-handedly make a show have much better animation in one episode than another series has in a whole set of 26... but enough fangirling, I suppose.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Anime. . . on Nickelodeon. It's like a daycare working to make better tasting wine coolers or something. Unless they intend to make an "Adult Swim" style hour, I don't know why they're even bothering with trying to make their own anime. Their target demographic simply isn't interested in the qualities that make anime what we love.

That would explain the choice of a seinen series. It's quite possible the execs over at nick were looking at as' success, and decided they wanted in on it. Still, one seinen anime doesn't make a block, so I'd be interested in what else they would put on if that is their intention. hmm...
From the ICv2 site (mentioned above):
Ira Ishida's Akihabara@Deep is an edgy, fast-paced cyber-detective comedy/drama set in Akihabara, the electronics district (and otaku heaven) of Tokyo. The property has already been made into a "dorama" (Japanese TV drama) series starring heatthrob Kazama Shunsuke.
Ishida also wrote a manga based on the popular dorama, Ikebukuro West Gate Park, which Digital Manga has published here in the U.S.
Nickelodeon's Akihabara@Deep anime co-production with Polygon Pictures should skew toward an older demographic than the Domo-Kun shorts.

Oh, is this Mahou Sensei Negima! RePure as well?... Well, I imagine they would have wanted to do it after the huge fiasco about the first series and the serious problems they went through... very very bad publicity for the parties involved, and it's hot otaku property so they'd like to re-do it. Especially since they can milk more out of the seiyuus - Negima may have been crap but Happy Material still got #3 or whatever on Oricon...
Thanks for the link to the Tekkon Kinkreet trailer, Sonhex. I'm REALLY looking forward to it - it looks like great, creative and inspired fun, as one could usually expect from 4C. I love their designs and colour sense.

jeepers.. is that an older Nodoka and Negi on cover 14?
(cover 10 with Kaede and Tatsumiya .... probably going to be my shallow-minded favorite)
The OVAs due out this summer are being animated by the Pani Poni Dash animation staff .... so if they're doing the fall season, I have hope for the series.
The company that did the first season (Xebec) shouldn't be allowed near any equipment for a few years (though its always a toss up to me whether to lynch the animation crew, the writing supervision, or just go for the producers and save time).

I never checked the series out. If the anime's bad, should I read teh manga? My friend has it...
All I can say is that I'm enjoying the manga .... the first couple of volumes are kind of dorkish (absurd fanservice and such) but once it settles in, its a good combination of magic, combat, interesting character design, and a bit of innocent romance (mostly in the Negi-will-be-so-cool-when-he-gets-older <swoon> category for the girls). Fair amount of fanservice is constant .. but it is somewhat in context (clothing gets ripped in battle, skirts fly when tumbling around, etc).
There are a lot of characters but there's a handy attendance sheet and really... if its that tough for someone to follow, how the hell did they watch LOTR and have a clue?
The first season anime was a trainwreck both in animation and much of the story (there were a few bright spots). I'd say with the combo of talent involved, the animators would have to really be on meth to mess this fall up.
But.. we'll get to see when those two OVAs come out.
I'm confused about the "new anime" of Negima. Is it considered a second season or rather an entire remake since the already out TV series was not good? :uhoh:

That is so open ended that an inventive writer could make anything in that world they wanted to. He could create a great original story. On the other hand a bad writer would have no idea what to do at all.
yeah, I agree. It's gonna suck badly. They always find lame writers for that sort of thing.

New Appleseed Film And PS2 Details
Just released at the end of the week, the latest issue of Famitsu reports on both the upcoming Appleseed film sequel and newly revealed PlayStation 2 game adaptation of the 2004 Appleseed anime film (which in turn was based on the Masamune Shirow manga). Sega is publishing the Dream Factory developed game. The action genre title is said to follow the movie's storyline closely. You play as Deunan and Briareos and as Deunan, you can board a Landmate mech for added speed and power. Digital Frontier, the film's staff is helping out with the project. In addition to creating an animated opening movie, the staff is creating new enemies and areas exclusively for the game. The announcement of the Appleseed PS2 adaptation has been timed to coincide with the announcement of "Appleseed Saga Ex Machina", a new full 3DCG film set in the Appleseed world and being directed by Shinji Aramaki and produced by John Woo. Production on the project is said to be in the advanced stage. The PS2 title will have some undisclosed connections to the new film. The PS2 adaptation is due in September. The new movie is set for release in 2007. You can see a first look at the Appleseed Ex Machina production art at the below Famitsu link. Death Note is still my most expected anime - but Busou Renkin looks nice. I hope it will be shorter than RK, though - brevity IS the soul of wit.
One question about Busou Renkin:
If I remember correctly, the mangaka was asked to end the series in JUMP prematurely, but is the story continued in the tankoubon? I think in JUMP, it ended without showing the final battle. :/

I don't know how much of the Rurouni Kenshin manga was originally animated, but Busou Renkin ended with a total of 10 volumes. I bet the whole story could be fit into 26 episodes.
It did get canceled due to lack of popularity. I haven't read that far, though, so I can't say whether or not the "final battle" happened. It definitely ends on a definitve note, though and the final tankoubon has one or two extra chapters that wrap everything up nicely (or so I hear).
Death Note will be fun, too, but to be honest I'm looking forward to Busou Renkin more!

Yes. Effectively, some of the chapters leading up *to* the final chapters, to me at least, felt a little rushed. However, the last several chapters are very strong, and "Final" and "Period" tie things up very nicely. Then there's also the extra chapter "After", which is more of a side story reflecting on a plot point that Watsuki never got a chance to address in the main story.
Oh man, this is like the one thing I didn't dare hope for come true~

The whole final arc of the manga, the Revenge arc with enishi Yukishiro, didn't get to see animation for the TV series.
Mmmmmm, maybe 26 episodes, but I think it might take a little longer than that.
From reading the manga, I'd you'd never be able to tell that it was cancelled. :/ There's no evidence or sign of rushing, and the ending is very conclusive, with an extra chapter to wrap it up even better. :D
Man, ACDragonMaster's avatar reminds me just how much I love the main "bad guy" of BuRen. Not because of his fashion sense, mind you :p , but because of the...."impression" his fashion sense leaves on spectators... :heh:

Compared to the long, long, complicated sequence that was the final battle(s) in Ruroken, the first part of volume 9 did seem a little rushed to me. The last chapters (note the plural), though, were fine, just the stuff leading up to them.
Man, ACDragonMaster's avatar reminds me just how much I love the main "bad guy" of BuRen. Not because of his fashion sense, mind you :p , but because of the...."impression" his fashion sense leaves on spectators... :heh:
*grins* Oh yes. I'm immensely curious to know who'll be doing his voice. And do hope that they don't do anything silly like alter characters' costumes or anything.
I'd love to see someone cosplay him sometime, though. And should probably be very glad I don't have the build to seriously consider doing so myself... >_>
Though that also reminds me- little details! I liked how when there's a character parading around in a ridiculous outfit, background characters actually react to it. One can only hope that this time, all of Watsuki's cleverness is well translated into animated form...

Can someone give brief summaries for Bushilord and Busou Renkin? They look promising. :)BuRen Summary (Anime News Network): Kazuki Mutou is mortally wounded saving a girl from a strange monster, but is given a new life through the power of the alchemically-made Core Iron. Along with a second chance, this grants him the ability to use his own Busou Renkin, or Alchemy Weapon. Joining forces with Tokiko, the Busou Renkin user he'd saved earlier and who gave him the Core Iron, he uses his newfound powers to fight the malevolent Homunculus monsters and protect his friends and the rest of mankind.
Note that that's only the starting plot of the series, the series is actually a lot deeper than that. You just can't give a good summary about the true depth of a series without giving away spoilers. :heh:

So is the story actually really dark or have lots of angst and drama? Or is it more of an...adventure quest? :uhoh: I hope it doesn't not turn into a 150 episode series.

There's no way it can turn into a 150-episode series because there isn't enough material for that. There's only 10 volumes' worth. Bleach animated ten of its volumes in about 26 episodes, so I'm presuming the episode count will be something like that.
It's a Nobuhiro Watsuki manga, so it has dark moments, comedic moments, and everything in between all thrown together into something more along the lines of an "adventure quest," I guess, if you want to call it that. It's awesome, though. It took me a while to get into it (I thought the whole first volume was really weak), but once it gets going, it gets GOING. Which is why I've always been really sad that Gun Blaze West got canceled. I loved the three volumes I read of it, and can only imagine what great heights it could have reached had it not been canceled...
I thought the whole first volume was really weak, but once it gets going, it gets GOING.
I agree.
Earlier on the story is like... they're fighting the freak of the week.
But it gets alot better when...they get confused at who's friend and who's foe, who's right and who's wrong.
I've only read up to the part where it ended in JUMP, which is...they kissed and.... it ends.
IT ENDED WITHOUT THE FREAKING FINAL BATTLE !!! !#@$@#$
That's why I was so annoyed.
But since the story continued in the tankoubons, I'll go read them for the real ending. :)

*amused* I was the one who originally wrote that, actually. ^_^;; Though as I recall that was the second version, the first summary I submitted wasn't too great. But it was written back when only 2-3 tankoubon had been released, so yeah, it couldn't *not* be limited...

I think you got lost because Final happens after Boy Meets Battle Girl and before Period.
So you should read Final, then Period.
There's also an extra chapter after Period which shows life after everything.

Well, yes, but having read Ruroken and Gun Blaze West, well, Watsuki's way of writing the ending is consistant with his other works. Though he does, when he has the opportunity to, really make his characters work for their ending, at least...

Sure brings back memories, I read the first 4 novels when I was a kid. Who would have thought these would be translated to Japanese, and would even get animated...
It's a good thing they're animating the second novel, as the last ones start to go downhill IMO, but it's going to be confusing without the first novel's story and Peggy Sue's encounter with the blue dog. I'm curious to see how they will handle it. I hope they follow the French novel's art too, which makes her look much more mature than the Japanese cover... Ah well, We'll see in late 2008. Thanks for the news ;)

This was posted on ANS (http://www.animenewsservice.com/) yesterday, but feel's (Jinki:Extend, D.C.S.S.) new project has been announced: Otome wa Oboku-sama ni Koishiteru (http://www.starchild.co.jp/special/otome/), based on an eroge by Caramel Box (http://www.caramel-box.com/products/otoboku/index.html) (that was also published on PS2 by Alchemist (http://www.alchemist-net.co.jp/products/otoboku/)). A lot of the D.C.S.S. staff is back for the new project, as you can see. From what I can tell, it seems like the main story revolves around a boy who, to fulfill the will of his recently-deceased grandfather, enters an all-girls school, which of course means cross-dressing (or some sort of magic, I guess... ^^; ). "She" becomes the talk of the school; the "elder sister". (Haven't played the game, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.) Not seinen, or based on a seinen manga or seinen light novel, as far as I know. :heh:

Oh, and by the way, sorry for not finding the existing Otome thread (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=26833) in a search. Oops! ^^; It's because I searched for the "oboku" that seems suggested to me by the title, vs. "boku" used in the thread and other places. What's with the missing "o" - some grammar rule? Anyway, just thought I should point "that-a-way" for discussion already in progress.
Edit: I asked a Japanese friend of mine about it, and he said that they're using a different furi to bring emphasis on the real meaning of the title - that the "onee-sama" is actually a guy, and the guy is actually you (the main character). His suggestion, incidentally, was Otome wa o"nee"-sama ni koishiteru. Anyway, for the 1 other person out there who may be wondering the same thing I was, there you have it... ^^;

Hehe. Nope, absolutely not. At least in the game, Leo is one of the most likable male leads I've ever seen. He's a swell guy in all paths, but I really need to pull my hat for his tenacity in the Hime arc. Knight-san banzai!
Subaru, Fukahire and all the others are confirmed with Seiyuus. Subaru even keeps his very distinct game voice! Looking forward to that :)
On the other hand, I have to question the decision to let Nakahara Mai voice Hime. I mean, what the heck? She has never done a confident-aggressive-haughty ojousama role yet. And the idea to have a Nagisa/SP-style voice interpret Erika gives me the shivers...

Well, be that as it may, the character design still looks painfully pedestrian, dull and uninspired.
I am not a fan of harem in general, so I may be biased, but all these main leads from harem anime do tend to look strikingly similar, regardless of the character differences.

He's certainly not an ass, that's for sure. As for being a generic male lead...
In its own respect, the design is nice, but coming from the game, it's a bit of a disappointment. And considering the anime is probably going to follow the PS2 character's lead, not expecting too much from this one...

With regard to looks, I have to admit that he does look generic. But whether he was an ass or not—well, let's just say that he isn't perfect. Despite that however, he comes off as a pretty likeable guy in the end. It isn't that difficult to see why he, Subaru and Fukahire are good friends.
I also miss the original drawing style though. And just like some fans out there, I'm not expecting too much from this series. On another note, I'm not expecting too much from the voice acting either, but I'm willing to keep an open mind with regard to that at least.

Well I dont expect to much from male harme leads.. Though I take it he might be Great! in the game.. who knows about the anime... I always! hear that no this guy is different... but most of the time I dont end up liking him. I like his design it doesn't look that bad, it not only harem leads that can look Generic, so I dont really care too much about that.
The good news for me about Tsuyokiss is that the anime most likey will be consistent with character design and animation. The same animation studio's that are working on Tsuyokiss, right now is working on Yoshinaga-san Uchi no Gargoyle Where they so far have done a good job.
Compared to the game, the design is more cute... with some of characters it looks better but with Nagomi I like her game design better.

I don't exactly fully understand what you're saying here. If the character designs of the anime are different than the game's, then in what way are they consistent? It's pretty obvious that the game's style is more mature-looking, "harder" and sharper than the relatively cutesy style of the anime version.
Are you talking about consistent quality, or are you comparing the drawing style of game to what is used in the anime?

Sure. But I think too much credit is given to him for being a "great" character. There are lots of good male protagonists out there... they just haven't been coming to anime. ;)

Actually, I was trying to be nice with respect to his "ass-ness." He has one or two moments in particular that come to mind—but being a game, they only happen in specific branches of the story. He is pretty generic, but he's a good generic lead at the very least.

Oh! ^^; about the Consistent animation/art I was referring to the Stuido's in Charge of Tsuyokiss animation ( Studio Hibari, Trinet Entertainment (http://anidb.info/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=4420)) Right now they are Currently working on Yoshinaga-san chi no Gargoyle (http://anidb.info/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=4068). The animation and Character designs in Yoshinaga-san chi no Gargoyle have been simple yet consistent, so If nothing else, the show wont mess up the charaters faces all the time. And In my last line I was just comparing the game designs for Tsuyokiss to the anime version.
I disagree about the generic-ness of Leo. If you mean the character design - fine, you've got a point. The key here is that it's a mantra of bishoujo games to go with a 08/15-design which should come fairly close to as many game players as possible, to support the "immersion". Whatever :P
When it comes to personality however, nope, he's not the typical harem lead. And Tsuyokisu isn't quite the typical harem game in this aspect either. Usually, the male lead is wimpy, clueless and swarmed by pretty girls who more or less do nothing but squeal "pick me, pick me", and yet unable to make a pick.
Leo, on the other hand, has a spine. In the game, you eventually get to pick a "direction", and from this point on, till the end of the game, he actually works/fights for his relationship. HE has to try to convince the girl, not the other way round. And when it comes to perseverance (especially in the Hime path ^_^), he's admirable, since pretty much no girl is a pushover. I definitely prefer this setup to the normal "fend off the others till you auto-score your girl" one.
That's what I'm most curious about: In the game, there is fairly little "competition" between the girls, with only very few exceptions, no matter which girl you go for. I wonder how they will weave together their seperate stories. Or - maybe - they'll simply go with an original ending? After all, I don't know the Nao path, not owning a PS2?
Still looking forward to it :) ... and whoever disses the anime only because the designs are younger, "simplified" versions of the mature game designs, can go to hell.

The fact is the typical bishoujo game harem lead isn't like that anymore. Sure if you just play yaruge or other basic games you'll get such a lead, but to say he is the only one that stands out from the crowd is a bit... plus for a game like Tsuyokisu to work, he'd have to be more assertive anyways.

This is going to be interesting, at the least.
Osamu Dazai was among the best post-war Japanese writers. His most popular book was The Setting Sun; it was a great read, but like most, if not all great Japanese writers, it was depressing. He also wrote No Longer Human, but it isn't as great as The Setting Sun according to many critics. Oh, and by the way, he killed himself, just like Ryonusuke Akutagawa, Yukio Mishima, and Yasunari Kawabata. *sigh*
Of course, like those authors, it was disturbing in the least. With that as a starting block, definitely only ugly stupidity can remove a great source like that from deification. *hopes for a masterpiece*

it doesn't matter whether its mecha, I like the character designs! ^^
this is really an interesting year for anime
I really like the concept of ga-nime...this is exactly what visual novels are supposed to be like. In fact the only difference I see between them is visual novels rely on text whereas ga-nime relies on speech narration, and I suppose the number of static drawings should be more for ga-nime.

Yes, it's a prequel to Hokuto no Ken. The main character is Kasumi Kenshirou, the great-uncle or somesuch of Hokuto no Ken's Kenshirou. They both look similar and use the martial arts style "Hokuto Shinken," but Souten no Ken takes place in the mid-1920s.
It's a nice contrast to the post-apocalyptic setting of the original series, and with any luck, the anime staff will pull it off well.

Is there a particular reason why it's not josei? Is it because romance is not a core component of the story? I mean it has the least moe-tastic appearance, and dare I say, almost looks like the designs in Nana.
And not that classifications should matter too much, but generally there is some 'grit' or 'grittiness' in serious stories under seinen which I find lacking even in the best of shoujo / josei. Though I know nothing of this title at this point (maybe I should check out the manga), perhaps there is some social commentary or something.
ed...wait a minute, according to manganews its listed under Comedy. Need to actually check it out now to see if it really isn't Drama.

Because Shuukan Morning is a seinen publication.
These classifications have to do with the magazine that they were published in, rather than the content. (ex: Death Note and One Piece are both shounen, despite the mature subject matter in the former)
I'm about at the point where I think this need to "label" is obsessive and is used by some folks who are insecure about what they are seen reading or watching :)
Almost reminds me of the "girls don't play with Lego" bullcrap...

It's a simple & easy classification system that has nothing to do with sexism. Just because a show has male or females as its primary target audience doesn't mean that there can't be a significant secondary audience composed of the opposite gender (i.e. Prince of Tennis fangirls, MariMite fanboys). If a man feels insecure about watching shoujo, that's his issue... similarly, people who try to differentiate One Piece or Naruto (or whatever their favorite shounen might be) from other shounen series because they're "dark" or "sophisticated" are totally just kidding themselves. Just because shounen anthologies are aimed at boys doesn't mean that adults or girls can't enjoy the series in them. A series can target a young male demographic and still have rather mature themes; however, that doesn't alter its target audience.
I really like the shounen/shoujo/josei/seinen/etc. categories because they're the opposite of the "girls don't play with Lego" perspective. People coming from that point of view often mistakenly call titles like Love Hina and Chobits shoujo, simply because they deal with romance. You can have gritty, brutal shoujo action and tender shounen romance. To me it seems almost freeing, given that nowadays, romantic Hollywood films are automatically considered chick flicks unless they come with a heavy helping of raunchy comedy and fanservice.

Actually you got it backwards. The ones who are insecure are the ones who do not know of the origins of said material.
Example, Rozen Maiden is dismissed as "oooh, a show about dolls! That's so gay". Nevermind that even Japan's Foreign Minister is rumored to have been seen reading it's manga.

Thank you. I'd say classification of Japanese media is far more liberating.
I'll watch anything I think I'll like, but I want to know beforehand how it might play out. Know the feeling when you expect an action drama and what you get is romantic comedy? Unpleasant most of the time.
Nevermind, I'll shut up now. I sound like a feminist, or worse, a men's rights advocate. ><

Moyoko Anno's latest manga series Hatarakiman will be adapted into an anime TV series for broadcast as part of Fuji TV's "Noitamina" series this fall.

From the "billions" of shoujo/josei manga and "billions" of shoujo/josei light novels thats out there, they decided to take a seinen manga, and broadcast an anime adaptation of it on an animation block thats aimed at females
They just know how to get on my nerves  , its not like there is a shortage in shoujo/josei manga and light novels, there are lots and lots and lots of manga magazines for females, lots of comic imprints for females, lots of light novel labels for females. Noooo, don't take a manga from those, take a seinen manga thats serialized in a seinen magazine, and broadcast an anime of it in a block thats aimed at females  f**k them, f**k them all, Fuji TV B*tch*s

it’s a short film being released under the Comix Wave imprint (of Shinkai Makoto fame), on DVD August 3rd. Fans of sentimental light science fiction stories would do well to take a look.
While not as overkill on reflections, blue skies, lens flares and trains, it could very well be that some of the Kumou no Muko people worked on this.
Oh yeah they're gonna broadcast it on July 10, hence 'TV animation'. They do that now even for one-shot OVAs.

Well it looks like it's largely the effort between AKio Watanabe (Soul Taker, Magikarte) and Toshikazu Matsubara (an illustrator). The colour design is no actually very different from the Shinkai movies... Yeah. (http://www.cwfilms.jp/hoshizora/)
And I don't know why I hadn't looked up Night Head Genesis earlier but it was apparently made into a drama in teh 90s and was pretty successful or something.
