New Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Movie
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary since the start of the original manga, a press conference has been held for the "Jojo's Bizarre Adventures: Phantom Blood Project". Bandai Namco revealed on Wednesday for the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood PS2 (due on October 26th) it was announced the work will become a new 90 minute animated film from Studio A.P.P.P. Theatrical release is set for a tim period between February-March of 2007. Past manga sales have exceeded 70 million copies.

OMG.

WRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY-!!!!!!!!!!

But 90 minutes for 5 volumes of the Phantom Blood Arc? I cry. 90 minutes isn't even enough to showcase the awesomeness that is Dio Brando, much less cover the story of Jonathan and co.

I hope this movie turns out great so that Phantom Blood gets a 26 episode TV series treatment. Then we can move on to the Pillar Men arc. :)

A new anime (http://www.iza.ne.jp/news/newsarticle/entertainment/television/19398/) from Gonzo (http://www.gonzo.co.jp/) starring Junichiro Koizumi (http://www.kantei.go.jp/foreign/index-e.html), the current Prime Minister of Japan (since 2001), will be aired (http://kamikaze.blog.ocn.ne.jp/index/2006/09/post_66b8.html) on October 10th at 10pm. Here I am thinking that I've seen every possible type of anime. Now this. I suppose after the social satire of "Welcome to the NHK" it was inevitiable that there would be polical satire anime.

Funny how political satire anime seems...funny. Considering that political satire was the intent of the very first pieces of mass media called "cartoons", and that satire is one of the few outlets for adult-oriented animation in the West. And yet it still does seem funny.

Seriously, though, I have to see this. There's only very few political anime out there (if any).

Oi oi, that's just....

....

O__o;;; Even Shinzo Abe is going to appear. Okay, WTF? And they approved this? It's not April 1st, right?! This is so weird but now I just want to know...

Why? Why animation, and why the hell in the first place? Are they trying to change the image of anime or...

Well I guess they can do it since Koizumi's exiting soon, but since a lot of people are thinking Abe's next in line...

The bad thing is it also reminds me of this really, really scarring incident where I came across some screenshots of a Japanese TV variety sort of show that showed one yaoi doujin of...well, none other than 小泉純一× (Junichibatsu Koizumi) and E島勲 (Isao E-jima referring to 飯島勲 Isao Iijima, Secretary to the PM)
... with Koizumi being the "uke"...
The sad thing is, I actually saved the image so that on days when I think the world is boring, I just need to look at it and bang my head on the table.
(I don't have anything against yaoi, but FFS, not the likeness of the Prime Minister anime-fied and doing it with a totally bishie-fied Iijima... Noo...)

But of course I'm really quite sure that show will be quite different from this :heh:

Havn't seen any images for the anime up till now, and well.. the character designs look alright though I cant wait till a pre-view shows up =) Hopfully it will give a better view on what the anime will really be like. Pursuant to this spring's announcement of the animation of Getsumen Toheiki Miina 月面兎兵器ミーナ, it was just announced that Fuji TV will be airing it as a TV series on Saturday nights from January.

Getsumen Toheiki Miina is the metafictional anime used in the TV drama version of Densha Otoko. The series will feature Tsukuda Mina, a high school student and an announcer, who transforms into Tsukishiro Miina to save the Earth from an extra-terrestial invasion.

I've uploaded the video which includes the announcement here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNbCXzRUsLE).

I assume this would be produced by GONZO, and if thery're going to do this, might as well animate the metafictional Plrin anime they use in NHK ni Youkoso!

http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/7766/toheiki2qo3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Airing from January 2007 on late Saturday nights on Fuji TV.
Production studio: GONZO

Synposis: As mankind seeks to emigrate to the moon where the lunar base is being completed, defense androids are being mass produced, in quantities equalling the number of craters there are on the moon. This is the comedic story of the burlesque humanoid, Tsukishiro Mi-na, who tries to do her best at studies and work.

From my post of above, it would seem she assumes the name of Tsukuda Mina, a high school girl and an announcer.

Mi-na's features coupled with her ammo is like, Anemone meets Dokuro-chan.
Being a metafiction in Densha Otoko, I reckon it'll be a moe type of show.

The popular Capcom action game Devil May Cry will get an anime series starting from Spring 2007 on WOWOW.

Animation studio: MADHOUSE
Director: Itagaki Shin (BLACK CAT)

There is a trailer within the site. Direct link is:

Devil May Cry has been novelized as well as made into a manga (kindly asking NeoSam to post the covers), although the stories are different from the game.

The trailer mentions Dante, so I suppose it will go along the lines with the game.

Lol, didn't think AIKa would be get a new series!
For those who want to see the ultimate fanservice anime, I strongly recommend AIKa, as you're to guaranteed to crack up.

If would be nice if they retain Sakuma Rei (Nina Appleton fron Gundam 0083, My Melody from the self titled series, Peorth from AMG) for the role of Aika, although she may be too old for this kind of thing anymore.

Erm I saw someone comment on teh Youtube page "first Mushishi, then this." Which has got me curious: any link to Mushishi or was that just a random statement? Also I couldn't garner much from the trailer in Japanese, could you provide/link a description?

Bartender is not related to Mushishi save for the airing time slot and that is an episode conclusive anime, therefore the comment probably alludes to the expectations for a quality anime.

Since I don't see any descriptions in English yet, I've translated the synposis from the official site (http://www.bartender-tv.com/top.html).

Synposis

God's Glass...
That is the monicker given to the immacluate drinks served by the brilliant bartender, Sasakura Ryuu.
The customers who visit his bar "Edenholl" become captivated by his cocktails.
At times, it rekindles memories, heals sorrows, or relights people's fire.
A healing-type anime for the mature audience.

Main characters

Sasakura Ryuu (V.A.: Mizushima Takahiro)
A young bartender who is in charge of the bar "Edenholl" in Ginza. The cocktails he makes are called "God's Glass". Past winner of an international competition, his skills are unmatched, although his secrets remain a mystery.

Kurushima Miwa (V.A.: Fujimura Ayumi)

I only have the one set of screenshots frmo that show talking about it, but well... you were warned (http://s03.imagehost.org/0856/Idontbelievethis.jpg) :)

And as for Devil May Cry, I hope they put in a good job to match I.G.'s work on Chevalier (well they're both WOWOW shows). I'm just really worried because Shotarou Suga is one of the scriptwriters and I can't say I really like his stuff. They've all been very boring to me.

Irohaniheto (what aname... ) looks pretty decent. It's not aimed in the realistic style of FLAG (which shares the same overall director), but it seems like they did put in effort to make sure it has some historical accuracy because they've got someone listed among the main staff to help them research and check the cultural settings.

What I noticed immediately is that the character designs are by Kozaki Yuusuke (Speed Grapher designs). I love that stuff - he's also a GIF animator I think, here's hoping he might do some animation like other GIF animators Ryochimo and Kenichi Kusuna. I'm hopeful cos he's credited as character design, not Original Character Design (there's no "animation character design" credit either...)

Unless this "Project G2" is it. http://shop.kodansha.jp/bc/yoyaku/comics/genshiken9/

EDIT2: According to this blog (http://heiseidemocracy.com/2006/09/25/news-flash-genshiken-anime-continues/), it's not going to be a full-fledged TV series, though, but rather an OVA.

Today’s scoop, revealed in the pages of Afternoon, is that Genshiken will in fact continue in animated form - but as a special add on to the Kujian DVD box releases, not as a TV series in itself. The Light Otaku Diary describes the release as mirroring that of the Kujian OVA when it originally came bundled with the R2 release of Genshiken two years ago, right down to the (very steep) price tag of 14,490 yen per box (a box containing four episodes of Kujian and one of Genshiken, for a total of three new Genshiken episodes and 12 episodes of Kujian over three boxes).

A healing-type anime for the mature audience.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't that put it in the same sort of bracket as Binchotan and Aria? Well I guess the mature audience bit is arguable for those two but I'm more referring to the "healing-type anime" comment. If so I'll definitely be checking out an episode or two of this(not that I wasn't before but this would pretty much cement my standing on it.)

:heh: I agree with you. But that's not a bad thing ;p especially in the creative business. They need a limitless imagination to come up with sorts of things that keep the likes of us glued to anime/manga

Ah, since the official site used the word 癒す, I wrote it as healing, but perhaps it should have been consoling/conforting/soothing or something on that grounds;)

In any case, it is definitely not in the same category as Binchou-tan or ARIA.

Aren't they billing it as the 24th World Masterpiece Theatre work?... Does that mean they're trying to revive it?

But it's only on BS Fuji...

The thing about Bartender is that I think it might go down the road of Gallery Fake... an interesting mature premise that could be spoiled by low production values - the animation studio is leaving me quite worried...

I looking forward to checking Bartender out, but I am somewhat anxious because the "God's Glass" part sounds a bit too much like a fixture of shounen sports anime (like Yakitate!! Japan or Hikaru no Go).

At least God's Glass is a customer-given monicker to an apparently very delicious drink made by a world-class bartender, unlike something called Goddess Hands or Solar Gauntlets with their superficial scientific explainations that make no sense.

Though I would had prefered that it is not just his cocktails that rekindled people's hearts though. That is really corny.

I literally LOL'ed at that.

God's Glass part? The line "Past winner of an international competition, his skills are unmatched," does seem to suggest that, but really I think thats just a statement, not what the Anime will be about. I dont think it'll be anything like a shounen sports anime, not with its themes (as I'm deriving from eggplant's translation).

Though I would had prefered that it is not just his cocktails that rekindled people's hearts though. That is really corny.
God's Glass refers more to his skill at making good drinks and not a particular cocktail. And I don't see how its corny. Alcohol does wonders. :heh:

It would be good if Bartender is like Mushishi or something, and it's in a episodic format where different customers come in each day with their problems. I don't know how that would work out for 25 minutes, but....lol.

EDIT: Actually, even if Bartender is like a mature version of Yakitate Japan, just with alcohol, it'll still be good as it'll give me an insight into the world of cocktails and drinking, just as YJ did with baking. Heh, looking forward to this now.

I mean in the sense that his cocktails made with his godly skills actually heals, rather than it being a catalyst for a heart-to-heart healing bond between strangers. I had always prefered shows in which humans heal one another, and whatever brings their pained hearts exposed is just a bridge, not the actual medicine.

I want to see how many tools/bottles/mixers he'll be juggling in the air though, assuming his international skills are as good as it is said. :)

From Anime News Service (http://www.animenewsservice.com/):

Coyote Ragtime Show Sequel Coming?
Information published in the November issue of Comic Rush hints at a possible sequel to the Coyote Ragtime anime TV series. The name of the project is "Twelve Sisters Story", centering on Madame Marciano's Twelve Sisters from the original. The format could be an OVA but at this point there seems to be some question on whether to produce the project. Something that may push the development is a coming American fan / consumer base garnered through ADV Films' license announcement at AWA this past weekend.

I just came back from the GONZO Festa Fall '06.

At the end of the show, they aired a sneak preview of William Shakespeare's Romeo x Juliet yes, ← is the official title.

Release date: 2007
Release format: n/a
Animation studio: Gonzo

The trailer looked pretty good (coming from Gonzo), but since they announced the title at the very end of the clip, until then I was thinking it was something like Chevalier, therefore the words Romeo and Juliet definitely took me off-guard.

First Les Misérables then now Romeo x Juliet? The studios are seriously starting to cater to the fangirls.

ZOOMG! Interesting... But did they mention the director? That'll make a big difference. If it's Mahiro Maeda then I'm so obviously going to watch it - even if it's melodramatic, if it's as enjoyable and fun as Gankutsuou then bring it on :D

I wonder if there has been an increase in female anime fans... Maybe it's all unconnected but first there's that trend in the doroku timeslot to appeal to female fans (after FMA and Seed's success with them) and then Noitanima and things like Lelouch and now this? Hm.

Romeo and Juliet seems problematic to me. If you stick to the play, it'll be really short... but if you don't, it'll just be another Romeo and Juliet knockoff, which is a pretty low run to be hanging from.

Thanks so much for the information.

Wow! Fumitoshi Oizaki is becoming a director now, huh... He's done the animation character designs for Keroro Gunsou and is responsible for the hilarious ED animation of NHK ni Youkoso. Well, I don't know how he is as a director but it'll be interesting to see.
And is that Satojun's first time doing official sound directing? Reminds me of Tomomi Mochizuki recently doing the same for er... a recent show which I forgot the name of. Good acting would be key to making the show work so it's nice to see they're putting in effort.

Thanks again for the info. Hm, I wonder how they'll pull it off. Anime is prone to melodramatics but whether you easily notice it or not is up to the director's skill.

Nightengale

Interesting.

Oizaki... I'm not very sure how he'll fit in properly in a directing role, but given his accomplishments in the various sectors of visual animation, if he can maintain the same flair in his work on the same level as the visual direction of Kaleido Star, I highly doubt there'll be any problem in the unnarrative visual storytelling sector.

Yoshida Reiko doing series composition is always a plus in my book. Her method of story composing in it's pace-by-pace story-telling had always allowed for quality time and pacing for proper story development, minus the ending of Canvas2, that is.

On Othello?? shiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, they'd never do that.... i am yet to see an anime that portrays us brothas in a good light. Although so far we have Yoruichi from Bleach and Dutch from Black Lagoon are the only black anime characters that i can think of that are cool as hell and are main characters.

Anime has never exactly been a kind medium in portrayals of us black folk. But i love the medium anyways.

After seeing how amazing of a masterpiece Gankutsuou was, i am all for les miserable and romeo and juliet.
If Gankutsuou could be great enough to shatter into my top 10, i am all for it...

I've recently read Beauty and Sadness, if that's the title you mean, and I do think it belongs to one of the world's masterpieces of literature. It's worse than the perfidy and treachery of KgNE, however - although pretty much open to much interpretation, if Sakami really loved that guy ... wow, it would have been hell for her.

Osamu Dazai had one of his works made into an anime but I never saw any raws, let alone subs. He was a contemporary of Kawabata and his popular works were The Setting Sun and No Longer Human.

I won't mind if someone translated Patriotism by Mishima into an animated medium. Yes, I know I'm just dreaming.

Is this old news, or not confirmed enough?

From http://www.animenewsservice.com/archives/octx.htm

New info is out on the progression of the Lucky Star Anime project in Japan. Yoshimizu Kagami's 4-panel Seinen / Comedy / Moe genre manga (which serializes within the pages of Comptiq and other magazines) will be adapted to an anime TV series to begin Japanese broadcast in the spring of 2007. 3 collected manga volumes are currently on the market. Confirmed staff include Director Yutaka Yamamoto (Haruhi Suzumiya), Series Composition by Machida Douko, Chara Design by Horiguchi Yukiko (Haruhi Suzumiya), Animation by Kyoto Animation, Production by Lucky Star Paradise. Following their work on Kanon and Haruhi Suzumiya, fan favorite studio Kyoto Animation's attachment to this project confirms a long standing rumor that a tight partnership exists between them and Kadokawa

A To Heart 2 OVA :)

To Heart 2 ~Another Days~

From Anime News Service (http://animenewsservice.com/):

New To Heart 2 OVA Series Announced
Following the Fall, 2005 broadcast of a TV animation, AquaPlus has announced a new To Heart 2 OVA series. Three volumes will comprise the release set for distribution this winter. Confirmed staff include charachter designer Yanagisawa Masahide (Rurouni Kenshin OVA, Bottle Fairy), Katsura Kenichirou (Imortal Grand Prix) and Kato Yasuhisa (Azumanga Daioh). Content is uncertain at this time but if the the videogame series by Leaf (which recently got an "X-Rated Version") is anything to go by, the medium of Original Video Animation could allow for decidedly greater artistic freedoms. On the game side Leaf is currently preparing the tentatively titled "ToHeart2 Anaza-Deizu". To Heart originally debuted as a hentai visual novel love adventure for PC in 1997.

And two new movies >.<

New Mushiking - Love & Berry Films Announced
Sega Japan has announced new anime movies based on it's domestically successful children's trading card / videogame series Mushiking and Love & Berry. Nationwide release in Japanese theaters is set for spring vacation, 2007. The last Mushiking film was released in December, 2006. For the new work Sega says they are completely "changing the story and outlook on the world versus past works". First hitting the market in 2003, Mushiking card sales have exceeded 398 million pieces in total as of the end of September, 2006. For the girl's dress up focused "Fashionable Witch Love & Berry" however, this will be the first outing in as an animation. This series has sold 207 million card pieces in total as the end of September. Shochiku Ltd. will distribute both movies.

Is this the same series that insani made a TLed demo of?
Link to the Insani demo (http://www.insani.org/polyphonica.html)

My interest was piqued because of the demo, but since it was just a sample, it was too short. This turning into a full fledged series is good news for me, since I'd get to know some more of the plot~

Even though I'm not a reader of IKKI magazine, but I heard lots of good stuff about the manga from this magazine. hopefully this anime will bring more readers to IKKI magazine (I'm afraid that at its current situation, which is 29,000 readers of IKKI magazine, someday it might get defunct :( )

I wonder if this is the first manga from IKKI to get animated... hmmm...

anyway, I'm also looking forward to seeing Tetsuko no Tabi :)

Wow, I read the synopsis of the manga and that's fantastic. It's so awesome, a manga about trains, that is about how the manga came to be written at all! The coolest thing is featuring people in the manga who exist in real life and even appear in the first place because they read the manga :eyespin: And I love the whole idea of going all around Japan on trains, even to the most lonely and abandoned tracks. I'm definitely keeping an eye open for this one - I sincerely hope this gets a good production team, especially in the background art department.

Certainly looking forward to it. I heard that Emma's anime brought more readers to the magazine it's serialized in (ComicBrain? Or ComicBeam?), I wonder if this will do the same? Does IKKI have a lot of nice unusual stories like this? In which case it's a real pity it'd have so few readers...

Well Ikki isnt exactly aiming at getting a lot of readers; so I doubt it'll go defunct soon.
There's some very good manga in there like Noramimi, Ryuguden (finished), Freesia, Sexy Voice and Robo (finished and published by Viz)... It's all very oddball and off the wall stuff, a very acquired taste.

I cant remember if an Ikki manga was ever animated before though.
Mohiro Kitoh's current series Bokurano is running in Ikki, and his previous series Narutaru was animated (that ran in Afternoon, but oh well)

Info from AnimeWaves (http://www.animewaves.net):

Nagasumi visits his grandmother near the sea during the summer. While visiting, he goes for a swim, and drowns right after entering the water. Fortunately for him he is saved by a young mermaid. Later as he tells the story to his family, a young girl named San appears at his home and begs Nagasumi to marry her.

She’s followed by two large thugs and they take both him and his parents to San's home under the sea. If that wasn’t strange enough, it turns out San's parents are mob bosses. Nagasumi is left with the choice of either death or marrying San. He chooses to marry a mermaid.

This would likely be that, except San's father and some members of the mob are not exactly thrilled to have Nagasumi courting San and are determined to bring an end to their relationship--or him. And there is also the matter of keeping it a secret that San is a mermaid.

Yep, looks like the same helmsmen as IGPX; Mitsuru Hongo is supervising and Koichi Mashimo is doing the series composition. Character design by Takuya Saito who also worked on IGPX.

It seems to be the same staff as IGPX for the large part. Not just the director and character designer (and production studio), but one of the mechanical designers, and if I'm not wrong even the audio director is the same. I perked up at reading that Yorihiro Ike is doing the music! Win!

Where on earth did you get the info about Koichi Mashimo, though? Is Masahiro Yokotani supposd to be a penname of his? God no, I hope it isn't because I think I'd probably run away...

But what is with this slew of mecha remakes :eyespin: Was it some collective decision or something, I wonder...

JAM Project, ver. animation studios? Or just different sides perking up at each other's sudden announcement of classical mecha remakes and starts doing their own? Whatever, it is the fans that gets the benefit, though mecha haters may not be too pleased....

Which is why it's worth clarifying for people that Rahxephon is based on Reideen in the first place. Yeah I suspect people will bring that up alot.

Wangan Midnight was first released in 93, Initial D in 95. Wangan racing takes place on highways in the early morning hours- basically competative topspeed runs. The speeds are much higher than the mountain roads in Initial D, plus traffic and cops...

I'm somewhat interested by this development.

鉄腕バーディー
Tetsuwan Birdy
Birdy the Mighty

There was a 4 episode OVA anime adaptation of the old manga by Masami Yuki that got serialized in Shounen Sunday (http://comipedia.com/magazine/shounen_sunday) magazine. this manga ended with only 1 volume (corrected from 12 volumes to 1).

Info (about the old anime):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birdy_the_Mighty

There's a new manga thats currently running in the seinen manga magazine Young Sunday (http://comipedia.com/magazine/young_sunday) which is also by Masami Yuki and it has currently 13 volumes out (volume 14 will be released tomorrow November 2, 2006) and its still ongoing in Young Sunday (http://comipedia.com/magazine/young_sunday) magazine.

The site for the manga thats running in Young Sunday (http://comipedia.com/magazine/young_sunday): (also the covers of the manga can be seen here)

The new anime is most likely based on the new manga.

Yeah, no kidding. Hello "nostalgia". I can barely remember the OVAs though.

I can't wait to see it as a new TV show! Wow that's a lot of exclamation points!

Hmm, the earlier post says the original manga series (in Shonen Sunday) was 12 volumes, but as far as I can find it was just 2. That's what the author's page seems to say anyway:
http://www.yukimasami.com/

Can anyone tell me something about the relation between the old manga and the new manga?

Clueless here. Haven't found much by searching yet.

Also, there doesn't seem to be any name change for the new series running in Young Sunday - both are "Tetsuwan Birdy". The art style seems rather different from what I remember of his other Shounen Sunday works (Patlabor and so on). Seems more serious. Looking at some of the sample images from the manga, it looks like the new series re-starts from the beginning.

Some images I found:
http://www.youngsunday.com/rensai/desktop/birdy/s.jpg
http://www.youngsunday.com/rensai/desktop/birdy/2l.jpg
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/4091510981.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
http://blog32.fc2.com/t/teikan/file/birdy1.jpg

PS Though I don't think it is relevant to the new Birdy anime, I think the Patlabor TV series and OVAs is one of the best manga to anime conversions - they managed to get around most of the flaws in the original, without taking much away, I thought. Ahh, "7 Days of Inferno"...

(Not so hot on the movies...)

I think Wikipedia entry is including the new series - ie, it was 12 volumes when last updated. It makes no mention of the "Young Sunday" version, and the last updator probably confused the two versions (since they have exactly the same name).

The author's home page mentions a 2 volume old series related to Shonen Sunday. That might be the anime book version of the OVAs though.

According to this:
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/manga.php?id=4980&page=28

1996-07 (Japanese Volume 1)
1996-12 (Japanese Anime Comic Edition Volume 1)
1997-03 (Japanese Anime Comic Edition Volume 2)
2003-06-05 (Japanese volume 1)
2003-09-05 (Japanese volume 2)
2003-12-05 (Japanese volume 3)
2004-03-05 (Japanese volume 4)
2004-06-04 (Japanese volume 5)
2004-09-03 (Japanese volume 6)
2004-12-03 (Japanese volume 7)
2005-03-04 (Japanese volume 8)
2005-06-03 (Japanese volume 9)
2005-09-05 (Japanese volume 10)
2005-12-05 (Japanese volume 11)
2006-04-05 (Japanese volume 12)

That sounds about right, though v13 is already out and v14 is due out tomorrow (2nd November). As far as I remember, the author stopped writing his last series in Shonen Sunday (Jaja Uma Grooming Up!) about 4 years ago - so it looks like shortly after he started the new version of "Birdy the Mighty" in Young Sunday.

I found an old review of the manga that complains that despite the volume being labeled "volume 1" a "volume 2" doesn't seem to exist.

Yeah I can't find this volume 2 too (LOL) so the reviewer might be right, and thats why the japanese wiki only mentions 1 volume.

With volume 14 of the new manga coming out tomorrow hopefully the new anime won't be an OVA series, but a full TV series (at least 26 episodes).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reideen#Remake Oh what's that. It couldn't be anymore clear now that next year is my year. MECHA REVIVAL TIME! I don't know how many classic mecha series are getting a new entry next year, but damn. This is it, you Moe/Dating Sim show fans had your turn for almost 3 years and I had to sit by grinding my teeth in agony as anime dissolved into "How can we make this character as cute as possibly and this male lead as wussy as possible?". Now its my turn, sit back and enjoy the ride as Manliness takes centre stage again and the cutesy girls get the boot from anime studios. I think I can thank the success of the Zeta Gundam series for this turn of events. Now instead of only the Moe fans winning, everybody gets to win as the Anime Industry finally wakes up and decides to stop spreading itself so thin. I'm sure 2007 will have plenty of stuff for everybody instead of just fans of cute girls.

And to think three months ago I was ready to throw in the towel and surrender to the onslaught of Moe. Now even though I'm primarily a Mecha fan, I would still be disappointed if that's all there was next year, because I have nothing against shows with cute girls. It's just when thats all there is I sit and vegetate somewhat. There just haven't been enough options lately. Now a Mecha show with a manly hero and a cute girl and an awesome robot, there is nothing else like it, its pretty much the peak for me. I swear any moe show this year could have been made instantly better by throwing a giant robot into the mix. Take for example the upcoming Shinkyoku Soukai Polyphonica, main character, total hottie, give her a robot or something and make it interesting. And my thoughts are bleeding out into this post again so I'll stop here and save space.

Um ... pardon for my asking, but when does the documentary anime on Koizumi air again? Because if it's aired already, I haven't found raws of it or even anything on it. :V

This was a documentary about former Prime Minister Koizumi's secretary which aired on October 8th, and within the two hour special, 4 to 5 short animated scenes (about 3 minutes each) were inserted, which segued right into the live action parts, therefore it would have been outright meaningless to extract only the animated parts.

The anime was used as means of portraying the flashback scenes and nothing more, hence the lack of interest among anime fans.

I suppose if you look into J drama (dorama) listings, you may find something. Here's the title for just in case:
独占取材! 今明かす 小泉純一郎の「正体」
Dokusen Shuzai! Ima Akasu Koizumi Junichiro no Shoutai

I saw it live and even recorded it only to erase it without second thoughts. I do not know if there will be a rerun.

Synopsis:10 years since the great war, tensions were mounting within the country of Wellber, which was barely capable of keeping peace, as war could commence at any time with its neighboring country, Sangatras.
In order to avoid warfare, the king of Wellber, Haidel planned on marrying off his daughter, Princess Rita, to Sangatras' Prince Guernia.
However, Rita stabbed her groom to be and ran away.
Infuriated, Sangatras' King Ranbahnhof threatens to wage war unless Rita is captured and publicly executed within 14 days.
In order to avoid the worst case scenario, Rita decides to head for the neutral country of Greedom.
Meanwhile, the woman thief Tina sneaks into Castle Wellber, seeking its treasures, when she happens to witness the stabbing of Guernia by Rita.
Whether it be by coincidence or necessity, Tina receives information that the "Wasp Man" she was after is in Greedom, her sworn enemy who took the life of her parents.
Tina agrees to become Rita's bodyguard as they head out to Greedom.
Shouldering their fate and destiny, the two meet, leave, and set out on their journey.
What awaits them is war or peace, vengeance or death...

Which studio is doing Airantou? Is Starchild said studio?Well, as NeoSam's post mentioned, the animation's being produced by Feel (who did D.C.S.S, Otoboku, and collaborated on a lot of stuff over the years). Starchild is basically King Records' anime brand; they're the publishers for the show. Incidentally, Moonphase (http://www.moonphase.cc/Html/anime.html) also lists it as 26 episodes.

Its great to see Anime News Service (http://animenewsservice.com/) is back with more news :) (though I just noticed >.< )

From Anime News Service (http://animenewsservice.com/):

Afro Samurai American Debut
GDH K.K. has announced that AFRO SAMURAI, the animated series produced by its main production subsidiary GONZO K.K. (Head Office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, Managing Director: Koji Kajita, hereafter GONZO) will premiere in the US on male skewing cable network SPIKE starting January 4th, 2007.
Based on Takashi Okazaki's comic, AFRO SAMURAI is a five episode animated series in which the protagonist - Afro Samurai - sets out on a journey to avenge his father against a unique backdrop of mixture of samurai culture and soul culture.. The series stars and is also co-produced by Academy Award-nominated actor Samuel L. Jackson as the voice of the hero. Ron Perlman (Hellboy) and Kelly Hu (X2: X-MEN UNITED) also participate as voice actors. The soundtrack of the series is composed by the revolutionary hip-hop artist The RZA, adding another outstanding creative talent to provide a whole new experience never seen in the animation history. The series will be aired in Japan in 2007 after US broadcast. The animated TV series will initially be aired in the US and will then be aired in Japan with the original English voices and Japanese subtitles. Original concept by Takashi Okazaki. For more information, visit www.afrosamurai.com.

Ok I didn't know that AFRO SAMURAI was based on a manga >.<

From the wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afro_Samurai):

Afro Samurai is a Japanese dōjinshi manga series, created by Takashi Okazaki, originally featured in the Nononhow dōjin magazine, which has adapted into an 5-episode anime television series, produced by Japanese animation studio GONZO, and set to air in January 4 2007.

And about the the doujin magazine (Nononhow), from here (http://www.act1anime.com/news/2006/02/19/afro-samurai-to-debut-on-american-tv-screens/):

Nononhow, a self-financed magazine put together in 1998 by Okazaki and his friends during their time at art school of which fewer than 100 copies were published.

A rumor >.< there's a rumor about Blue Dragon getting an anime.

From this site (http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/blue-dragon/rumor-blue-dragon-anime-in-the-works-207721.php):

Rumor: Blue Dragon Anime In The Works?

Stick a big fat "unconfirmed rumor" on this post, but there are rumblings that a Blue Dragon anime are in the works. A page on *get this* a toy hobby figurine page that seems to hint an upcoming anime for next spring in Japan. The game is the brainchild of Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi and Dragon Ball/Dragon Quest creator Akira Toriyama. Even though we're still at the getting-info-from-Japanese-toy-sites point, a Blue Dragon anime makes way more sense than, let's say, a cartoon about pinatas. Brian Ashcraft

This is the site that hints about an upcoming Blue Dragon anime:
http://smood.littlestar.jp/x-net/news/2006/10/1303.html

For info about Blue Dragon, read this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Dragon

But also according to the same page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Dragon) above:

Manga & anime
On the 14th Novermber 2006 Shuiesha announced a manga adaptation of Blue Dragon is to be produced. The Blue Dragon ST manga will be drawn by Ami Shibata and begin serialization in the January issue of Shonen Jump Japan. An anime adaption of the game was also announced recently.

But I can't find any confirmation of it getting an anime.
If anyone has more info about this (be it getting an anime or not), please post about it.

Could it be an official announcement of a Nanatsuiro★Drops anime ? :)

(even though according to rumors the animation production might be Studio Barcelona)

I mentioned an anime adaptation of the bishoujo game Nanatsuiro★Drops in this post (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=683975&postcount=769), but an anime is not confirmed yet, so its not listed on MoonPhase's anime list.

Will School Days be the next Higurashi?Unlikely, because the game isn't like "that" for the most part.Of the dozens and dozens of possible endings, only three are "bloody". Of course, those are the one that get the most the attention (because they're so unusual for the genre). I suppose they could go for one of those endings, but it'd only be for that "shock" factor. I think it's most likely they'll go for one of the "good" endings, which means that no one dies...

Though I will convene that I would like to see Kotonoha in the anime snapping or violently bursting out just quite a few, isolated times.

She was one of the moe -est (at least looks to me) and innocent female leads in the game.

1. Her infamous suicide in one of the three bloody endings knocked me out of my senses.

2. However, what gave me the willies was her other bloody ending where while at the bridge, Sekai approaches her to talk her. Kotonoha slowly pulls out a pocket saw and in an almost inaudible whisper she sighs "Die".
She slashes a clean cut at the left side of Sekai's neck, and before Sekai can astonishingly reacted on what Kotonoha did blood gushes out and falls unconscious.

Then, in all her lunatic glory Kotonoha laughs like a nutcase; her face is cold as that of a zombie, and her eyes are dyed a dead crimson.

That ending is uploaded in YouTube, you know.

MakubeX2

If they decide to make Makoto a SOTB for the anime like in the game, then by all means, go Kotonoha or Seikai route.

If they decide to make him a all round nice guy. God forbid, have a harem ending for him.

Setsuna is a secondary character and it's not Summer Days we are talking about here, so it not likely that she will be central to the anime.

But the sex, the amount of sex, is too central to the game. whoable is porting the script from the game here has to be a good writter.

Resume For Takayama (http://have-you-afternoon.tea-nifty.com/about.html) who is writting the script here.

Seems to have his share of good and bad releases here. (FMA, KGNE, Shuffle!, Demonbane.) I dunno about him.

Ok, maybe its better to wait for a confirmation of this, but no :P I can't wait anymore >.< there's a possibility for a second season of Suzumiya Haruhi and a second season of Zero no Tsukaima next year :D

This is a post (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=735061&postcount=1997) by Sushi-Y from Suzumiya Haruhi (General Discussion) (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=26413&page=100) thread:

That's correct, according to cyan-san, the same source who announced the new Evangelion movie (which is confirmed now) said that there will be a second season for Suzumiya Haruhi scheduled for next year (2007) Fall.

Also mentioned in that entry (and this was mentioned in a few other places as well) is a second season of Zero no Tsukaima in the works too (by JC Staff), also scheduled for next year Fall.

Might as well translate that entry:

Genre: Drama, Fantasy, Mystery

Source: Monthly Afternoon Magazine January Issue (on sale Nov 27)

Based on the manga by Kumakura Takatoshi, serialized bi-monthly in the seinen magazine Afternoon.
Currently six tankoubon volumes have been released (would appreciate if NeoSam can post the covers).

Excerpt courtesy of AnimeNfo (http://www.animenfo.com/mangatitle,146,nsyhpo,mokke.html) (edited for clarity):
A fantastic story about two sisters. Shizuru is a high school student who can see monsters which ordinary people can't, while her little sister, Mizuki, is easily haunted by these monsters. They are living with their grandfather's home separately from their parents because of their abilities. The theme for each story is not horror-centric, but rather, of a heartwarming nature.

CONSERVATIVE HYPOCRISY ON FREEDOM AND LIBERTY

I have signed petitions against nationalized health care and Cap & Trade. I agree with conservatives and Republicans on these two issues.

But as long as many of them lie about believing in the Martin Luther King Jr. quote about people not being "judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character," as a registered Independent voter I cannot in good conscience ever choose to become a conservative or join the Republican Party.

Numerous conservative and Republican bloggers, commentators, and whatnot, from Thomas Sowell to Daniel Pipes, have endorsed the book "In Defense of Internment" by Michelle Malkin, which attempts to justify the mass racial/ethnic exclusion, evacuation, and incarceration of Japanese Americans in the United States during World War II.

Malkin's book has been systematically disected, dismantled, and ripped apart by University of North Carolina law professor Eric Muller and University of Quebec history professor Greg Robinson:

http://www.isthatlegal.org/Muller_and_Robinson_on_Malkin.html

That so many conservatives and Republicans who are/were people of color - such as African American Thomas Sowell, Filipina American Michelle Malkin nee Magdalang, African American Larry Elder (a Libertarian), the late Canadian-born Japanese American S.I. Hayakawa, and a Mexican American conservative Republican journalist from Texas whose name currently escapes me - have been so eager to embrace, espouse, and defend the wholesale racial/ethnic discrimination by the U.S. government against Japanese Americans during World War II speaks volumes about how many non-white conservatives seemingly seek to "out right" white conservatives on issues concerning civil rights and civil liberties.

Hotair.com founder, Fox News commentator, and non-white journalist Michelle Malkin has written articles which have run on the "white nationalist" website VDARE.com, founded by English-born naturalized U.S. citizen and former Canadian resident Peter Brimelow.

VDARE.com gets its name from Virginia Dare (born August 18, 1587, date of death unknown), who was the first white child born in the Americas to English parents.

Brimelow believes in keeping white Europeans as the majority in the United States. Among other things, he advocates changing American immigration laws to favor white immigrants over non-white immigrants. Therefore, on this issue he is firmly in the camp of paleoconservative Patrick Buchanan.

A strident opponent of illegal immigration and a strong supporter of immigration reform, Michelle Malkin appears to sympathize with, if not share, Peter Brimelow's views.

Regardless what Brimelow, Buchanan and Malkin believe in, however, the United States will increasingly become a non-white/non-European nation - whether they like it or not.

At least Brimelow and Buchanan (and Malkin?) are open and honest that they favor whites over non-whites - unlike many other conservatives.

And this U.S. demographic trend does not bode well for conservatives and Republicans in the future, especially if they keep speaking like hypocrites on civil rights (e.g., preaching individual liberty but defending Japanese American internment) and harping too much on immigration, illegal and legal.

Why should people of color become conservatives and Republicans when, if push comes to shove, they are viewed and treated like second class citizens (or worse) and as threats to America by conservatives and Republicans?

If conservatives and the Republican Party want to continue slow, ritual, right wing suicide, then so be it. But it is a shame since liberals and the Democratic Party have become too far left wing today and are taking this country down the wrong path.

On this July 4th, 2009, while conservative Michelle Malkin trashes and smears Japanese Americans - many who served so bravely and loyally in the armed forces for the United States against Germany and Japan during World War II, including the 21 Japanese American World War II Medal of Honor recipients - let us remember conservatives like the late President Ronald Reagan, who signed into law the Japanese American Redress and Reparations bill (the Civil Liberties Act of 1988), and U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, who in his vigorous dissent on the 2000 partial birth abortion case (Stenbach v. Carhart) compared the 1944 Korematsu decision with the 1857 Dred Scott decision as the worst decisions in the history of the U.S. Supreme Court.

MOONLIGHT MILE

Broadcast: 2007
Station: WOWOW

Based on the manga by Ootagaki Yasuo, serialized in the Big Comic Superior magazine, from which 13 tankoubon manga volumes have been released.

Synopsis: Two men attemtped to climb Mt. Everest in the winter. One was Saruwatari Gorou, a Japanese, and the other was Jack F. Woodbridge, an American know as "Lostman".
The two, having succeeded in climbing the world's steepest mountains, gaze at the international space station above, which was the instant it became their next target.
In January 2005, mankind found new value for the moon, in the form of a natural resource Helium 3, a replacement for fossil fuels. The ample reserve was enough for a thousand years worth of energy for the entire mankind.
Concurrently, NASA announced the next generation energy development project "NEXUS", soliciting construction workers globally to work in space.
Accepting NASA's offer, Gorou heads off the NASDA as an astronaut-in-training.
At the same time, Lostman, who at the time was the ace of the U.S. Navy, was invited by NASA to pilot the shuttle, meets the crew of the ISS (International Space Station).

Don't be fooled... Moonlight Mile is light year away from Planetes. It's similar to a Crying Freeman in the space, probably, but in a dull way (the manga is really horrible, imho).

Bokurano it's a dream that came true... But GONZO for the realization is the worst nightmare... (Another manga I love will be butchered, wath a nice day! :( )

かみちゃまかりん
Kamichama Karin

Broadcast: 2007

Based on the shoujo manga by Koge Donbo (Pita-Ten, DiGi Charat), serialized in the Nakayoshi magazine, with seven tankoubon manga volumes released to this day.

Synposis, courtesy of Anime News Network (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/manga.php?id=4046)

Orphan Hanazono Karin is a below-average girl who just lost another person dear to her; her best friend and loyal cat, Shi-chan. While visiting Shi-chan's grave, she meets Kujyou Kazune, a smart prettyboy who insults her right after meeting her. She runs away from him, hoping to never see his face again, but fate seems to have other ideas -- the girl she bumps into the very next day is none other than Himeka, Kazune's cousin. During her second meeting with Kazune, something strange happens to her ring, the last thing she has to remember her mother by. Afterwards, strange events happen all day around her, with no explaination. The fourth meeting with Kazune explains quite a bit; her ring has the power to turn her into a goddess. With Himeka's support and Kazune's guidance, Karin begins her training to become one of the divine.

I totally give-up on GONZO after NHK. The staff is good but the anime is mediocre (well, I was feed-up after 10 ep. so I can't really tell if it's any better after that). Not a good adaptation, not a clever o well-made variation of the original (of course it's all IMHO). Just your average GONZO series, similar to any other they have made in the last years...

Even though I consider Gankutsuou the only good thing ever to come from Gonzo; and I'm not a huge Bokurano fan, I will look forward to the anime.

OK, I must stop getting excited now. Must stop. No, this can't be true, it sounds too good.

Now all they need to announce is 20th Century Boys anime. Produced by Madhouse, lol.

Give GONZO a chance. It depends on who the actual director is, and it's pretty hard to tell how well they'll do since the director hasn't done any series?. Red Garden is a brilliant series, and I personally love NHK. As long as Gonzo do not do a Yume Tsukai. It will be ruined if they don't keep the disturbing factor of Bokurano.

A question: The manga was serialized in Young Magazine Uppers (which got defunct) and continued in Morning, but why are there also another 9 volumes (with different covers) of this manga ? was Piano no Mori restarted with a different story in Morning and thus there are 2 different Piano no Mori manga ? or were the first 9 volumes republished with different covers (probably after it started serialization in Morning)?

Anyway, I'll post all the available covers (with the mentioning of what comic imprint they got published under).

The manga is being scanlated by Reimu Manga (http://www.reimu.net/) group.

From Reimu Manga (http://www.reimu.net/index.php?id=pnm):

Amamiya-kun turns over a leaf at his new school, but he soon finds himself bullied by the other children. A dare to play the mysterious piano in the local forest ignites his meeting with an equally mysterious child who goes by the name of Ichinose Kai. Who strangely enough is the only one capable of getting sound out of the thought to be broken piano.

or were the first 9 volumes republished with different covers (probably after it started serialization in Morning)?

Yes I'm answering myself :heh:

Well first from Reimu Manga (http://www.reimu.net/)'s site:

Serialized in:

Young Magazine Uppers (Volumes 1-9)
Weekly Morning (Volumes 10-13+)

And then if you check Kodansha's shop site (http://shop.kodansha.jp/bc2_bc/search_list.jsp?n=20&type=t&a=&t=&word=%83s%83A%83m%82%CC%90X&search=%8C%9F%8D%F5):

Volume 1, 2 and 3: released on 14/4/2005
Volume 4, 5 and 6: released on 23/5/2005
Volume 7, 8 and 9: released on 23/6/2005

So its obvious its not a new manga, but the same manga republished with different covers (and under a different comic imprint).

Meaning the first 9 volumes of Piano no Mori manga (old covers and new covers) are the same manga :P the manga continued in Morning from where it stopped in Young Magazine Uppers.

Edit:

In other words taking the manga that got serialized in Young Magazine Uppers (the 9 volumes), changing their covers and publishing them under a different comic imprint (Morning KC).

The manga that got serialized in Morning is as mentioned from volume 10 and above.

Even though I consider Gankutsuou the only good thing ever to come from Gonzo; and I'm not a huge Bokurano fan, I will look forward to the anime.

I just hope Freesia will be the next. Directed by Masaaki Yuasa.
That'd just be too good to ever be true.

Oh and about Tetsuko, that recently ended in Ikki.

Well, the live-action movie comes out next year. Maybe the anime will follow...

Oh wow, that looks kinda weird to see a real life Kanou. It'll be interesting to see how they adapt the utter batshit level of the manga.

I think that is gonna make alot of Naruto fans very, very happy.

I may even watch the show, as long as they don't carry it out forever like the other one.

I doubt the manga series as it currently is will have another time-skip. So it wouldnt be abnormal if Kishimoto ended it in the next 10+ volumes.

Piano no Mori has me very very interested. I'm in love with those covers. They're confident, interesting and different from the stuff I'm used to... I'll definitely keep an eye out on that one.

All these "off-beat" manga getting animated - and that slew of mecha anime coming out; are we finally moving away from the eroge/ranobe adaptation boom? Are we?

A new Ikkitousen anime, Ikkitousen2 so to say, has been announced.

Title: Ikkitousen ~ Dragon Destiny

Heres the site: http://www.ikkitousen.com/

Genre: Shounen, School, Material Arts, Ecchi

Date: february 2007

Plot: Well...I dont remember that much of the first part. There are some schools and some fighters in them who are at war. Then those fighters have wierd accesoiries that inherit the spirit of some great historical fighter and their destiny. Theres kinda much fanservice (and even yuri, yeahh^^). Still the animation quality was crappy at times. Judging by the front pic of the homepage the new anime's animation quality might be better, but i dont know about the story of the new one.
